Very good,
Score from 379 reviews
Dating back to 1563, the Zaguán Del Darro was formerly a Franciscan convent, the renovation of the palace has been carefully undertaken to retain its original Spanish style. The hotel has a stunning central courtyard displaying marble columns from the Elvira mountains which are Roman in design. In the center of the courtyard is a renaissance fountain creating a tranquil and elegant space which has been named a site of artistic interest by UNESCO. The charming decoration continues into the bedrooms and the delightful bar is a great place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Discover authentic Granada which begins from the Zaguán entrance. Find many shops to browse and lovely tapas bars, where you can enjoy a rest with a glass of cooling Sangria. Hotel Rooms: 13 Most recent booking for this hotel was yesterday at 15:08 from Spain.

I can't praise this little gem of a hotel enough. Nestled under the shadow of the Alhambra, with stunning views from the front rooms, it is both atmospheric and practical. Based in a converted 16th century monastry, we worried it might be cold and drafty. Instead, our room was large, comfy and warm - even in the very cold January nights - and the staff welcoming and endlessly helpful. This was the cheapest of the rooms we looked at in the historical unesco protected quarter, which is perfectly located for visiting the Alhambra, the Flamenco caves at Sacromonte and the windy little roads in the famous ancient Albaycin area. To be honest, it was so cheap we thought there must be a catch and very nearly booked a more expensive hotel to be on the safe side! We looked at the pictures of the lovely foyer, but expected it to actually be run down and a bit tired when we arrived. We were so wrong, and we were very glad we hadn't wasted our money going somewhere else when the Del Darro was brilliant and such good value. As a former newspaper travel editor I've stayed in hotels all over the world. If you like big flash hotels and are happy to pay an arm and a leg for the experience, then something small and friendly like this might not be for you, but otherwise, it's really great. Don't miss the breakfast in the tapas bar downstairs either! Our room was on the first floor right over the road. It was brilliant looking up to see the Alhambra, but if you are a very light sleeper, the road might be a bit noisy. It didn't bother me at all though, so it would only be a problem for the very sensitive. The double windows, authentic wooden shutters and thick curtains made sure the noise was minimal.

Interesting style and atmosthere, but... The single room is very small. And everything in it small: bathroom, shower cabin, bed. And very thin walls - you can hear every move of your neigbours.

The location was convenient for sights and very traditional looking It was difficult to find as it was in a no go area for traffic. Took us nearly 2 hours once we got to granada going round in circles and the car park was so far away we had to get a taxi which even then couldn't drop us at the door. 32 euros for parking was too much + the taxi fares took it to 42euros. Room 202 was very badly lit and there was one light hanging out on bare wires. We thought it wasn't very safe in case of emergencies with the spiral staircase entrance and the very big wooden ceiling, especially fire.

The position is excellent overlooking the river in the old part of the town. The hotel itself has a pleasant public room made from what probably originally would have been a small uncovered central courtyard, it is now glassed over, where it is possible to relax. There appear to be some pleasant bedrooms on the first floor. The first room we were shown was extremely small just big enough to accommodate a standard double bed which was pushed up against the wall. We asked for twin beds and the staff were helpful and moved us to another room which was better and larger though up a very narrow spiral staircase up which it was difficult to carry luggage. This was an attic room and you looked up at the beams and planking that were under the tiles. The planks were stained black making the room dark. It could have done with better lighting. We visited in April and it was also cold. However, the hotel is small, we got one of the last rooms available. The position couldn't be bettered.

The hotel is small historic building typically Spanish and hundreds of years old with lots of charm and character. It is like living in a small castle with very friendly and helpful staff. It is in the historic old district of Granada and close to all the monuments with great views of the Alhambra. I would definately recommend this hotel if you want something special.

Hotel Zaguan is quite unique. The foyer looks medieval and is utterly charming; and the rooms are small but quaint. My room had two single beds, one on the floor and another half way up the wall on a platform. Would not have suited a tall person - but for me it was perfect. The staff were extremely helpful - even when I needed an English-Spanish adaptor plug, they found one for me. I will definitely book Zaguan again.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Lovely building, with small cloister style central area, had a view of the alhambra from my bedroom, very helpful and friendly staff, superb location right near the alhambra and by the river Darro, near the tapas bars, near the plaxa nueva, and working distance from most of the things you'd want to visit in Granada. I would have liked a hairdryer in the room, rather than having to ask for one.

Good location for the alhambra palace, other points of historic interest, access to tourist centre, shopping district and a vast array of eating options. Add your value for money price and one has a good package. There are only two negative aspects. 1) Parking Facilities. The hotel will give you two car parking facilities which in reality are about 10 mins, max, away and not a strenuous walk. A directional map from either to the hotel would be good. Dependant on luggage it is easier and quicker to walk than to take a taxi. 2) The hotels cafe/bar partner was closed on the wednesday (rest day) not sure if this just at certain times of the year.

Location We were unable to reach the hotel in the car and were not advised in advance that the road was closed. We had to park in a car park some distance (over half a mile) away and make our own way with luggage to the hotel. The hotel staff were dis interested in their guests. Although the position of the hotel is good for night life it is noisy if you have a room with a view of the Alambrah. The rooms are small and poorly appointed.

The location was perfect - right next to the river which separates the Alhambra from the old Arab district of the city. The room was attractive and distinctive - there is no generic hotel about this place at all. One of the owners checked us in, and was most helpful with basic tourist information which we had not gleaned from guidebooks - he also spoke very good English. The room had a little refrigerator in good working order, which was nice. The only drawback is that the hotel starts one floor up from the street, and there was no elevator to get your bags to that floor - there is elevator service once you are in the hotel itself. Finally, there is a attractive atrium sitting room on the main hotel floor.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is atmospheric and quiant and location ie excellent for visiting The Alhambra. Unfortunately there is a local bar located at the rear of the hotel where students enjoy themselves throughout the night. We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and were looking forward to a romantic and relaxed weekend together. However, we were kept awake by the noise, laughter and cigarette smoke wafting through our window until 5.00am. on the first night of our stay. The hotel were also concerned and contacted the police but they refused to do anything as they 'could not stop people making a noise in the street'. If booking we recommend requesting a room at the front of the hotel. Weedays may be better.

If you like to stay in an old traditional spanish hotel this hotel fits the bill. Location is perfect for the Alhambra palace/catherdral etc and buses going to the palace a 5 min walk away. Rooms are not overly furnished but very warm and clean. Reception staff very helpful and knowledgeable of places of interest also the surrounding area and car parks.

The hotel is very special because it is renovated by an old building, and it is near the alhambra (by walking to entrance, about 20minutes). Our room is very small but comfortable, and it is value for money as most of our time is outside and we just look for a place to bath and sleep.

Lovely old house well provided for guests in a lovely part of town. Very historic, and near to many bus lines. Obras in the street so you have to walk from the Plaza Nueva, but it is close and should not be too long before the work is done. Not the fault of in the control of the hotel.

Great view towards Alhambra. Close to restaurants and the Albaicin quarters. Parking nearby is very difficult, and even stopping to unload or load luggage is difficult, as it is on a narrow one way street with nearly constant traffic, including buses.
