We stayed in a spacious family room. We were a party of 2 adults and 1 kid (1.5 year). Everything was very convinient for the family stay- apartment itself (big and comfortable with a kitchen),location(close to the city center),supermarket on the corner. I called the phone mentioned on my confirmation and asked for the early check in and a very nice lady on the reception agreed.Just to add few words that to get in the apartment u need to know ur code key, but believe me it is very easy!!! The hotel send u all info via e-m and the phone mentioned is always answering! Hotel has no reception inside, but u can always reach them via phone. Reception staff is extremly helpful, thank u ladies! I read it in a privious reviews an we have the same problem-one night it was a party upstairs with loud music etc,but hovewer I called reception and they promise to send a security guy. In 1 hour everything was quiet, have no idea if they manage to figure it out or the guys decided to sleep themselves:)

Good location The instruction "how to get in" you sent wasn't full I think. It had not said I have to call to help desk to get in and that pin-code won't be accepted by central door.

Hellsten appartments are located in a beautiful part of Helsinki, very convenient for the railway station and shops. Despite it was minus 20 outside, the appartment was very warm and cosy. Highly recommended as a budget accommodation. If you are going to use the sauna in the basement, make sure it is switched on at least half an hour before you plan to go there. The instructions for the sauna are somewhat confusing, but in practice it is very easy to use.

Perfect for a family group. We had one bed apartment and there were three of us, all adults. Apartment very spacious and very clean. Location good although my elderly mother could't manage the walk to the city centre but the tram stop is yards away from the apartment. Our private sauna was a great addition. The area of Katajanokka is full of beautiful buildings and lovely restaurants and is quiet and safe. Heating worked well we were able to adjust the temperature in the rooms. Plenty of wardrobe and storage space. Checkin straight forward. We needed to ask a question so we phoned the Hellsten Senate number where the customer service assistant was helful. Although we had a great stay and would definately use the apartments again there were a few niggles that we feel need to be addressed. There were no instructions what so ever as to how to use the dishwasher, sauna, microwave etc in fact there was no paper work regarding the apartments at all. Although we managed I'm sure some people would have struggled. Also to our horror there was no hair dryer, which is standard equipment. My elderly mother found the channels on the tv very confusing not corresponding at all to the normal Finnish tv channels therefore again a laminate illustrating which channel is which number would have been hugely helpful. She was looking for Channel 5 for her favourite programme and we had no luck in finding it. We had a set of small cups but missed a decent coffee mug. We did very little cooking, in fact only one breakfast, the equipment was disappointing though. One small frying pan that was in a condition to be thrown out and no spatula to turn fried eggs therefore I had to use the cheese slicer! No toaster either. We feel if the above issues were addresses the Hellsten Senate would be hard to beat for a truly comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Good space and well equiped, fair price, quiet location, but not far from atractions. No reception desk is something uncomon in a hotel, wich makes you feel a bit insecure, specially in late check in. But e-mail and phone attendace were pretty efficient, everything went as accorded.

Good geographic location (near center : 10min walking), price and equipments. Having the kitchen is a great advantage in order not to pass all lunches and diners in restaurants. There is a supermarket 2min from the hotel, opened even Sunday until 9pm. No employees. We did not have any problem but it can be very stressful if something happens.

I have stayed here before, but in a different room. This time the big apartment for 3 people was really great - bright and with a lot of light. Good as always. The heating in the room worked inproperly, it was too hot. And in the morning I found out that there was no regulator on the heating, so it was impossible to switch it off.

“The fact that the hotel is an ex prison and there are still features of its past was a draw to choosing the hotel, it's certainly something different! The location whilst out of what you would describe the city centre didn't really matter in the end as the tram stop is right outside. All staff I approached were very helpful and pleasant. Food in the restaurant is of a good standard.” Christopher, La Oliva Fuerteventura |
