Wanted to try something unusual for a hotel and enjoyed our stay a lot. Very good location, tram stop just outside the gate. Overall hotel atmosphere absolutely not depressing, as may be expected from the prison. And very quiet, which was the gratest advantage.
This hotel is one of the kind. We highly recommend it because we spent in this "prison" very pleasant time.
+ very clean and fresh room + quiet location + good breakfast + walking distance to city center + good value for money
- quite cold in the room - no WiFi coverage in the room (which is due to thick walls) - smell at the corridor outside our room - no restaurants/bars in close proximity of the hotel
Really great staff, wonderfull shower, the room was quite big and very clean. The location is great, not in a city Center but close enough. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel very usefull and easy. Great breakfast! We loved!!
The wifi in the room is poor, maybe can be solved with repeaters in each room.... But for us was not a big deal...
Consistency in the "prison" theme: "decorations", staff clothes, ... Very welcoming staff. Quality and size of the room. Due to the thick wall, you were not disturbed by noise from neighbours or from outside while in the room.
The queue might be long for check out with not enough staff to deal with it.
Friendly staff, comfortable accomodation at affordable price. An old prison transformed in to a lovely hotel - this in itself makes for a memorable stay and reminder of Helsinki.
Really nice staff! Located on a tram line (in front of hotel) Quiet rooms 20-25 minute walk to city center
The WIFI - either no signal or a slow signal
Everything especially the building & breakfast
The decor was very dated and depressing, especially for a hotel in the Design Center of Helsinki.
The Katajanokka is excellently located on tramline 4 and very near the ferry-terminals. Rooms are cosy with a good size bathroom and good noise insulation. Food is very good, we had breakfast and dinner, both of which were very tasty. The staff is very friendly and speaks many languages.
The breakfast-rush was messy and people were eating with previous breakfasters dirty plates still on the tables. However the quality of the food makes up for that.
Car parking in the parking lot of the hotel's guests will should be free.
The whole atmosphere, the freiendly staff. Overall feel.
Although breakfast was good for people with normal dietary requirements, special requirements were left a little short.
Really great location - not far from tram stop, it will takes max 10 min to get from the hotel to the railway station. There is market square near the hotel - it will takes about 10-15 minutes to get from the hotel to the market square by foot. Breakfast is excellent and various. It is so quiet in the room. Very comfortable bad. Friendly and helpful staff.
Everything was great!
I love Katajanokka district where the hotel is located. It is calm, green, beautiful buildings everywhere, the sea is near, parks, perfect place for walks. Not far away there's a small k-market. For people who love walks the center is near :) But if you don't or the weather is bad right at the doors of hotel (literally) there's a tram stop. The staff of hotel are very friendly and helpfull. Kettle and tea accessories in every room is a big plus for me. Perfect soundproofing ( i thought i lived there alone :)) The first hotel where there are enough of pillows for me :) Four for sleeping and two decorative. Breakfast (buffet) was ok. Several dishes of eggs, sausage, meatballs, a lot of fruits, watermelon, vegetables, sliced cheese and ham, always fresh bread and rolls, a good choice of jams, espresso that you can make yourself. And I loved the atmosphere of the dining room, candles, wooden tables, unusual chairs, it's all rather reminded the castle than prison.
No wi-fi. At all. I saw people with notebooks in a hall,i guess they found some, but i didn't try. But if you have Saunalahti simcard with mobile internet it's works perfect. Cleanliness could be better, but it is not critical
Unique theme and use of existing building Location Helpfulness of staff Special request for single beds and power outlet near bed met
Minor dislike Was advertised to have wireless in rooms. With 3 rooms between us there was no internet in any.
Rooms are compact but nicely fitted out to make the most of the space. Bathroom was really lovely (great shower). It's a 10 minute walk into town or a few minutes on a tram. You can buy a 24 hour transport ticket for 8 EUR which covers all the public transport. There's a tram stop directly outside the hotel which goes to the centre in 5 - 8 minutes.
The breakfast was chaos with no staff helping guests find tables or filling up the buffet. Food quality wasn't great. We tried it once but didn't go back.
Quirky! Frequent tram at door Bar and restaurant on site Lovely grounds Quiet neighborhood Tea, coffee, safe, toiletries and bath tub in room
Parking a little pricey
Lovely hotel in almost central location. The staff was extremely helpful, the food was great, the prison theme can be found in almost all details, which is nice. The room was spacious, the bed was comfy. All very clean and very very lovely. Would have liked to stay longer :)
Only had room and breakfast - nothing to complain about at all.
Nothing at all to complain about - I will certainly stay here again.
Superb location-10 minute walk to harbor Excellent breakfast. Quaint architecture -the building a former jail
Close to the center (walking distance), great atmosphere, very clean, very friendly staff, awesome breakfast. We can definitely recommend it to tourists!
Many groups are there, so at breakfast it is quite busy
Location, soundproof, clean, good breakfast. RUS TV channels.
Poor WiFi in rooms!
It is a good hotel by all standards, so can't really complain
As it is a former prison, it gave me creepy feelings, especially as our room was underground
Excellent location, within walking distance to downtown Helsinki. Staying in former jail was unique experience.
Didn't actually get a jail cell for a room. Internet only available in entry of hotel.
