Scandic Grand MarinaKatajanokanlaituri 7, 00160 Helsinki (Show map) Good, Score from 1516 reviews“Excellent location, friendly and helpful hotel staff. Having the room on the seaside we were very satisfied to have a look at those giant boats coming and leaving several times a day. Tasteful "a la carte" dishes at the hotel restaurant, very friendly staff there.”

The breakfast was excellent and the wifi worked. The Scandic Grand Marina is a large grey tourist factory next to a ferry port. Be prepared to wait a long time to check-in and out; the dimly lit aging building is coloured in browns and greys; the old bathroom set was a tired combination coloured creams and blues - - maybe the original items from the 70s. Several times a day you will hear the loading of lorries and cars onto the ferries at the dock directly in front of the hotel. The room I stayed in seemed to be some sort of conversion and the walls were not well noise insulated. When I booked I thought it was within the main area fo the city centre but it is in fact about 15 minutes walk to most things of interest. For my trip in Finland I was given single beds in all the Scandic chain hotels I stayed in. At this hotel the room was VERY small and the single bed was sideways against the wall with the bed head next to a table not a wall - I had to move ther bed so I didnt hit my head.

Quite and rather convenient location, nice staff Room clearness disappointed me. I've found somewbody's hairs in the shower, all the room was dusty, they didnt clean the floow during my stay (3 nights). The Breakfast also have left a lot of negative emotions. First -- the juices were awfully diluted and practicaly had no taste, white tomatoes and dry bread finished the picture. More than that, I've had a stomack upset after taking that breakfast. There were a lot of russians in the hotel, so the quality of service for them dropeed drastically.

The staff was incredibly friendly, flexible and helpful. I had 3 separate requests which were dealt with 3 different staff members--and each time resourcefully and with a smile. Breakfast was not as good as in some other Helsinki hotels. Where was the salmon?

The view from our room to the harbor and to the city center was nice. Our room (family room) was perfect for our little family (two adults and a small kid). Personnel was very friendly. Breakfast was very good, and because the childrens' playing area was in the restaurant, we (adults) could have our breakfast while watching over our kid playing at the same time. We had one dinner at the hotel' s restaurant: the food was not that good what you would have expected at that price. The shift manager of the restaurant was not the nicest we have met. Also cleaning of the room could have been better.

Very good breakfast, good location near the city center and the harbor. It was the first time when we didn't have to wait for settlement and went to the room just after our early arrival(about 7 a.m.). Also there was a bonus of two free drinks in the bar.

Yes we would stay at the hotel again, it was a agreat location for travellers I didn't like the lack of cleaning tables at breakfast, more staff were needed in this area, I would also like to see more staff training in the dining room, we were served on our first night by a charming waiter called Jami, which made us go back on the Saturday night, unfortunately we were served by a surly, stout waiter who could not have cared about any of our requirements, the only one of which we had was for a pepper shaker, he has no personality and you should not let him be the one your guests are dealing with, a very unpleasant man and for that reason if he was working in the restaurant, we would not eat there again on our return

Large and comfortable room, superb mattress, no noise from the corridor, adjacent rooms or anywhere else. Breakfast is a bit chaotic, with guests coming and going all over the place. (Maybe this is inevitable in large hotels, which I normally manage to avoid.) Sit down at a little table, and seconds later some stranger may sit down opposite you. The plus here is that they're mostly businesspeople and are busy and preoccupied, so it's most unlikely that you'll be dragged into a dreary discussion. No storage space. Amazing -- a large room, with a rudimentary wardrobe for hanging things, period. Virtually no shelf space, and no drawers whatever. So whereas we normally unpack anything we might need when staying in a hotel for more than one night, in this hotel room we put a couple of piles of stuff on the desk and as for the rest lived out of our suitcases, spread open on the floor. (At least the floor space sufficed for this.)

We arrived late in the evening after a long trip and were starving hungry. We are both vegetarian and did not expect to be wonderfully catered for. However when we enquired if there was anything we could eat at that time, the chef created a special meal for us which was absolutely delicious and just what we needed. Amazing! We had to wait a little bit too long for a taxi in the cold and rain.

The hotel was fine, but is very poor value for money, for the price I would expect better service, and much better rooms, the bathroom was very basic.

The location is great. Very close to the harbour and the ferries. We stayed on the top floor and the window was so tiny as to offer almost no veiw at all. The outside parking is fairly cheap (by Scandinavian stardards) but, it is under trees and after parking there for several days, our car was covered in sap.

“The fact that the hotel is an ex prison and there are still features of its past was a draw to choosing the hotel, it's certainly something different! The location whilst out of what you would describe the city centre didn't really matter in the end as the tram stop is right outside. All staff I approached were very helpful and pleasant. Food in the restaurant is of a good standard.” Christopher, La Oliva Fuerteventura |
