Housed in a converted prison from 1837, this hotel is on Katajanokka Island in central Helsinki. It features a popular restaurant and rooms with a flat-screen TV.
Score from 1573 reviews Excellent
Location. Simple but comfortable. It's convenient also the mini shop present close to reception. Breakfast is at the right level. There is a small gym, better to be there with no more than 2-3 people, but it's available 24/24 .
WIFI is not so stable, just sufficient for emails and simple operations.
Helsinki hotels are generally overpriced with rather poor facility following..
Reception excelent Anna is professional Kind and helpful .
Carpet in the room 811 Well cleaning . Sunday night the Restaurant is closed..
Nice hotel.good location
Location, free wifi, good breakfast, lovely restaurant if bit pricey. Nice room. Warm.
Noise at night on the 7th floor, sounded like plumbing pipes etc, sauna on 8th floor perhaps ?Disrupted my sleep both nights.
Great service, ideal location
I booked a family room for my kids, me and my wife. The receptionist was surprised as if they were expecting only a couple. Why would I book a family room if we were a couple. I guess they did not pay attention on details. At the beginning they said could be a problem to find a room, but then gave us a room at the end of nowhere at level -2. Anyway I did not want to argue and spoil our weekend!!!
Toilet in room poorly cleaned. Beds too soft. Filthy play room for children in lobby area. Our room has not been renovated in the last 10-15 years - had a dirty fitted carpet and very dated furniture and appliances (maybe other rooms are renovated). We arrived for check in at 16.30 and we had to wait with 2 toddlers for 40 minutes for the room to be cleaned so we could go upstairs.
Feels like back to 80-s
Cold room space. But to be confident outside was -25 degree C.
Perfect location, nice hotel, nice breakfast. Close to everything.
The wifi a bit slow
1) The location is super convenient if you want a hotel in walking distance from the railway station, very close to all main sightseeing places, museums, shopping malls and restaurants. It's hard to imagine a better location in Helsinki! 2) A good breakfast buffet 3) A very convenient option of an early breakfast 4) Very quiet rooms 5) Friendly & English speaking staff
Lived in the room number 405: - no money exchange service at the reception - no free water in room - no robes in the room - no free slippers in the room - no teakettle in the room - no full body size mirror in the room - bed, bedding accessories & towels are 3 stars quality and design - small room & no view - outdated room design - old room furniture - outdated bathroom design - AC can not be adjusted (only ON/OFF) - Safebox doesn’t work - no room service telephone line (The reception staff don’t pick-up the phone if busy with guests at the counter ) - no water dispenser in sauna - was not able to open sauna with my room key, had to ask the girl from the reception to come upstairs and help me - would ignore all the above problems if the price was cheaper (it’s unfair to pay such money for ONLY good breakfast and excellent location)
Warmth of hotel nice rooms Excellent location Breakfast good
Not getting chance to use the sauna Food menu narrow and expensive
- Breakfast selection was really good - Couldn't be in better location, as I was in a concert almost across the street
room - very old / not comfortable
I had very little air - windows could not be opened, just a tiny slit with wire mesh over it so no ventilation. The air conditioning/heating only turned down to 16C, and I found the room much too hot, despite turning off the radiator. I was given a room next to the lift - this turned out to be very noisy, especially on the Friday night when people seemed to be going up and down all night long. There was no kettle or tea making facilities which I would normally expect. But the worst thing was the lack of air, overheating and noise from the elevator. I slept hardly at all - a horrible night.
good location Nice staff
The standard of this room was not so good.
Location is the best. Room is ok, nothing special good or bad. I will stay there again when I get to Helsinki.
The restaurant is overcrowded for breakfast. For dinner the serivce is too slow.
The staff was very friendly and helpfull. The location was excellent.
The room was a bit warm and difficult to alter.
Very central location. A good buisiness class hotel at a fair price. A nice restaurant on the entrance floor.
The rooms are starting to show their age but this is not a major thing.
Perfect location, right in the middle of everything and so easy to find your way around from here. Quiet and comfortable night's sleep despite being in city centre. Hotel facilities are great, clean and tidy with very good WIFI. Buffet breakfast was absolutely delicious and well worth the money. Best thing about this hotel? The staff! Excellent service, polite and friendly. Would definitely stay here again!
Central location, very close to Ferry Terminals, functional rooms, excellent breakfast.
Rooms could have been a bit bigger, especially if like us were on a long vacation & thus had three largish suitcases.
Very dated decor in the room and bathroom. It might have been considered modern in the 80's but I doubt it. My previous expereince of a Scandic was the total opposite which is why I booked this one. But this one is just an old hotel.
