Good location, cheap hotel Very poor service at reception. We reserved through Booking.com and the staff did not find our reservation, they claimed we had not reserved even though we had the booking confirmation from booking.com. The hotel found us another room, which was not the kind of room that we had reserved originally. They did not even mention this. Also, the staff claimed we had not paid, even though we were 99% certain we had already paid the room. They promised to double check, and during our stay, they came back to us confirming they did not find our payment and we need to pay upon check-out. When we checked out 3 days later, they told us they had finally found the payment, no apologies, nothing.

I am a frequent traveller to Helsinki, and If compared to other 4* hotels Scandic Simonkentta delivers the worst service in the city, and the price is no single cent lower. 1) Upon arrival quite late we found our rooms incompletely cleaned. 2) In the Easter night some children started playing hockey in floor's hall - no reaction from front desk until we called concierge twice (!). 3) At breakfast the restauarant constantly ran out of deserts, well, it was Easter, but it's natural, that there will be more people staying at the hotel. 4) a piece of food was left unattended for 4 hours in hall outside our door. So, it's totally mismanaged hotel, and I do suggest to find other places to stay in Helsinki with same price but much more hospitality.

Location is excellent. We booked a superior room but got a normal twin. They told us that minibar makes the room a superior one..

Our room was very quiet despite the central location of the hotel, which was definitely a big plus! Everything was clean and all ok. The room didn't have a water kettle, but we got one from the reception. Definitely good value for money! Parking cost 15 EUR/day, which was a decent rate compared to other hotels in the area. For some reason this was not clearly stated on the booking.com website. Breakfast was good, but due to the timing (mid July) it got very busy between 9 and 10...

Everything was good: location (don't need to go outside to get to the shopping centers), clean and comfortable rooms, really nothing to complaint about. Would choose this hotel again once in Helsinki.

The location Scandic Hotel is excellent chance for all of us who are motivated to spend a lot of time for shopping. Additionally, I was surprised to find out that the price of parking for visitors who were stayed at Scandic was reduced kindly. Unfortunately, the heating was not worked in the room at all. But I do believe that the staff of hotel will solve that small problem.

Location was central and handy for the main train station. The room and bathroom were fairly basic, similar in style I would say to an Ibis in terms of quality.

A modern, clean and comfortable city hotel. Excellent location and modern yet warm decor. The main lobby is stylish yet welcoming, and the two PCs with free internet access for guests were a great bonus. The breakfast/dining area was modern and spacious. We had a very relaxing stay in Helsinki at this lovely hotel and would definitely come back. Our room was clean and comfortable, however the bathroom was perhaps a little bit dated considering how modern the rest of the hotel decor was. The bathroom was also a little on the small side. The room could have done with a kettle but perhaps this is a British thing. The only complaints I have are the fact that our room was located right next to the elevator which meant constant noise even during the night, and the fruit salad at breakfast which was horrible beyond description but luckily the rest was fine.

“Excellent location, friendly and helpful hotel staff. Having the room on the seaside we were very satisfied to have a look at those giant boats coming and leaving several times a day. Tasteful "a la carte" dishes at the hotel restaurant, very friendly staff there. The hotel is located right next to the sea (gulf), but it is close to the city centre - you get "two in one". All in all - full satisfaction! We highly recommend this hotel. And many thanks to their receptionists...” Roman, Ostrava 1 |

“The fact that the hotel is an ex prison and there are still features of its past was a draw to choosing the hotel, it's certainly something different! The location whilst out of what you would describe the city centre didn't really matter in the end as the tram stop is right outside. All staff I approached were very helpful and pleasant. Food in the restaurant is of a good standard.” Christopher, La Oliva Fuerteventura |
