I guess the buildings were nice and some staff were ok. Food choices were not bad. It seems that a lot of the female staff did not know how to be polite. Perhaps they have something against us tourists paying their wages? But for a supposed 5 star resort, we were not made to feel special by the staff. When we first got here for example, the lady at the desk simply says 'Checking in?'. No smile and 'Welcome' etc... at the convenience store, same. Walk up to counter with a drink and a smile and say hello. The only reply would be 'Is that all?', To which you would say 'yes please' and the response would be again simply '4.50' or whatever orice it was. Afterwards, you would get change and that would be it. Some staff would not even look you in the eye. Bloody rude and it pissed us off from the outset and from then on, we noticed it more and more and it actually seriously put a dampner on our holidays. That being said, I am not sexist or anthying, but it seems the males were friendlier. My girlfriend also agreed with this analysis. My suggestion to the outrigger is to send in a spy to check this. A female spy because my girlfriend was treated with no respect 80% of the time. Whilst it is nice everyone says 'Bula' when they walk past, it can actually be annoying. I would much rather have someone at a counter or waitress smile and say 'Hello' or 'Bula' then have to say it each time I walk past someone. Perhaps some tourists are rude to the staff which has gotten their back up? I would assume most are not and therefore, I would expect common courtesies. I was not asking for anything other then courtesy when approaching staff and some manners. "Hello" or "Bula", "Please", "Thank You", "Bye" and perhaps a welcomgin smile. People in Australia think australian retail assistants have issues? Tell them to come here and see what they think. The pool is nice, but do some scuba diing and then check out how dirty the water is!

The staff were very friendly and reasonable. Due to flight delays, we were only able to stay 1 night instead of the initially planned 4 nights. I had been prepared to pay for these 4 nights upon check-in but was only charged 1 night. Excellent service.

Rather than the expensive transfers, we got a small Budget rental car at Nadi airport and drove to the resort. It's only 77 km (48 miles) straight on one road (Queens Road) but still took 1 hour and 15 minutes due to road work (part of it because of the big April 2012 floods). Free parking at the resort and we used the car a few times to drive around the area and Sigatoka town. Bigger supermarket in town, but there is also a mini-mart if you walk from the resort on the beach toward Sunset Beach for a few minutes (where Bedarra Beach Inn is also located). Best about the resort are the view (love the lagoon, walked into the ocean at low tide), the room and the great food and drinks. We had the regular garden room, which was big, modern, well cleaned, with awesome beds, great airco, big Sony TV, fridge, safe, spacious bathroom, balcony. We had most of our breakfasts and dinners at the main restaurant (Vale ni kana). Continental breakfast at FJD 33 per adult, full breakfast was FJD 45 I think. Also enjoyed light breakfast (bread and pastries) at Takia bar (next to reception), also to use free Internet there on the same day (free with any purchase). Dinner buffet was FJD 68 per adult; different theme every night. Best of all, our 4-year-old daughter ate and drank for free our entire stay (kids eat free). Had our lunches at the pool, loved to have lunch at our sunbeds, very relaxing. Note that it is difficult/painful to walk on the beach because of the shells, rocks and coral on the beach. No use lying on the beach either, this is a place for lying at the pool. Our daughter loved the pool and pool area so much, she is still talking about it. She also loved all the music/singers around the hotel at various places, especially at night, and also the dinner shows at the main restaurant. We didn't use the kids area much, although it's great if you use the nanny program, not convenient for a quick walk in (to play for a little while). Many mosquitoes at the resort. I know it's Fiji but maybe hotel could spray more? (E.G. I didn't notice any mosquitoes on our hotel stays in Nadi at all). In the kids play area - during day time -I was stung 5 times in 5 min. (Too much time in between using my 40% Deet spray?) There were some more important issues though: 1) Parts of the resort are badly in need of maintenance/renovation. For instance, there are many broken tiles in and around the pool and very old sunbeds/chairs. 2) Yellow hot water in our bathroom; it disappeared when we let it run for five minutes (as advised by the hotel) but it came back every day; not a nice feeling when washing. 3) Pool waiters are very pushy, sometimes asked every 5-10 minutes if we needed a drink. Ignoring them didn't help! Surely working on a commission basis, hotel needs to change that. 4) There was only one elevator (down) to our room and it was almost always either shut down (because of a private function, wedding reception etc.) or broken. 5) Too much Bula; everyone in the resort says it all the time. Yeah, it gets annoying, although I understand it's (prescribed?) friendliness. Didn't have that issue elsewhere in Fiji... 6) Our bill was wrong at check-out. Got charged the regular rate, instead of the discounted Internet rate I booked. They did change it. Good thing I noticed, because it was FJD 300 less. (PS. 3% additional charge for using Mastercard - this seems to be everywhere in Fiji)
