This house from the 17th Century offers a calm elegance in the charming city of Chinon. The Hôtel Diderot, with its regal black slate roof and white limestone walls, is located near Place Jeanne...

Very nice new (since 1-1-15) owner couple. Traditional good French breakfast. Very nice town with many (even in winter) restaurant possibilities. Chinon is a scarce red-wine area within a larger white wine region.
First night I slept in the main building street side. The road is pretty busy. Although it did not keep me awake, if you are a light sleeper, ask for another room. The second night (1 week later) on request I got a better room. Last year I stayed in the annex and those rooms were perfect! Very quiet.
We only booked half an hour prior to going, as we were travelling down through France. We stayed in an annex to the main hotel and this proved to be comfortable and quiet. The old part of town was beautiful and had some good restaurants.
No english . we wanted a city map and it took us 15 minutes to make them understand. than i wanted a knife to cut bread and they didnt want to give us even for 2 min!!! poor hotel!
Staff - extremely welcoming and helpful. Location - on the bank of the river and in walking distance of town, fortress, restaurants etc.
Being British (!), would like to be able to make a cup of tea in the room.
Comfortable room and nicely decorated. Very quiet and close to restaurants and shops.
No shower curtain/wall so bathroom got quite wet.
Found easily upon entering the town Excellent welcome and good service. Really liked our room in the extension to the main hotel building Immediate access to exploring the older part of the town.
Shared courtyard in a detached property from the main building. Good location by the river on the western edge of the old town area. Friendly service and great recommendations on sight-seeing and eateries from the staff.
Lack of a shower curtain on the over-bath shower meant the floor got flooded.
Great room overlooking river. Good local knowledge
A charming typically French small hotel
Spacious room, tastefully furnished, large bathroom, quiet courtyard. Love to details. Very nice and helpful owner. Hotel concept considers environmental aspects. We appreciated the service at breakfast.
Not the best breakfast

Noise from traffic Damage to shower
We have stayed here twice and the second time we had room one. This was a beautiful room overlooking the river, with a glorious bathroom. The lady who received us was very kind. She moved her car to make a space for us!
Christine was an excellent host, made us very welcome, very helpful and informative. Lovely reception and breakfast area. Spotlessly clean. Great views across river Vienne.

No cup in room for rinsing teeth after cleaning
Very clean, comfortable and welcoming. The best value of 6 hotels we stayed in during our holiday. Particularly liked the roomy shower and bathroom. Nice location overlooking the river, convenient public parking, and a relatively short but interesting walk into the town centre. Fortunately, Christine's English was much better then our French and we appreciated her helpful advice.
Just a suggestion, a mirror in the bedroom would be helpful, for when two people are getting ready to go out at the same time.
Location Chinon Staff Recommendations for restaurants in town
Our room was very simple, but not really an issue considering the price and how late we had booked
A lovely quiet hotel in a great location, easy parking, near to centre of town. The decor was really nice. Would stay there again.
Short walk into town.
Don't take the ground level room facing the alley. No view, plus no ventilation as it's not safe to leave a window open at night.
Room size, comfort and river view. Helpful staff. Good parking close by and fast (free) wifi in the room.
Some road noise.
Very friendly staff, nice room!
The rooms were spacious and the decor simple but elegant. The bathroom was superb with a bath. We had a terrace/garden area where we could eat and relax and even hang washing. Christine was friendly and helpful and knowledgeable. We loved the location.
Straightforward reasonable accommodation as a base for exploring Chinon and surroundings.
Parking overnight will be a bit of a lottery in high season.
Helpful and charming owner. Gave us some good choices on where to eat that evening which made for a very pleasant stay
We were latish to breakfast and there was little choice
My husband and I stayed here for one night. The staff was so nice, welcoming and lovely. The breakfast was perfect way to start the day. We will be back and suggest this place to others. Truly lovely host!
It was VERY hot in our room. That is only a VERY minor issue, but we couldn't sleep with covers on it was so warm due to the heater.
