Au Royal Mad was one of the cheapest places to stay I could find in Paris (without the need to share a room in a hostel). The location is good (and you can go anywhere by metro), the single room was decent, the service is very friendly, the WiFi worked without problems.
Keep in mind it's a budget hotel, so don't expect luxuries. The walls are thin. Also it's only for able-bodied people who are able to carry their own luggage - the stairs are steep and there's no elevator. It was no problem for me, however.
In the last day we asked a taxi to 4:30 a.m. The driver was already at the reception at this time, talking with the manager of the hotel. Well, everything seemed fine till we reach the airport. We've spent 30 euros on the arrival, and were expecting at maximum 40, because it was in the middle of the night. The driver charges us 60 euros. He didn't have a taximeter. He just said "that is my price", and we had to pay. When I got home, I've made an official complaint to the hotel. They said it was a private driver, a kind of luxury service. WHO stays in an budget hotel without bathroom and would like to have a "chauffeur" driver? It is not a reasonable answer, doesn't make any sense. In my opinion, it's a scam to took money from tourists. It's very serious. I don't trust and don't recommend Au Royal Mad. Keep distance.
Close to city centre and metro station. Clean Fully enough for sleeping
A bit small room.
The room and bathrom was really clean that was important for me. Thanks to AU Royal Mad
generally, it was very nice! the hotel is quite close to metro stations - you can easily reach any destination you want. Wi-Fi works perfect - I managed to talk with my friends by Skype, post my photos in all social networks and chat. It's never been noisy and the room was cosy. All the staff I needed were allowed to be taken to the room and be kept until my check-out (kettle, hair-dryier). The service is also nice and staff members are well-disposed.
be careful with the stairs! its steep enough to take care) if you have some heavy luggage be prepared for taking it up as the lift is absent here
Very thoughtfully personal and guests I got help with all my problems :)
Really good place if you wanna be there only to sleep and nothing more. Clean bathrooms, free wifi, good matress.
The place is noisy and is not isolated really good.
Nice location, close to metrostop and quite central so you can easily walk to the center or Belleville. Very nice and helpful personnel. Clean rooms and bathrooms. And there is a microwave and a frigde in the room which is also very convenient.
Wifi stopped working after a day. It was a bit cold in the room.
Close to nearest metro station and a lot of night restaraunts, shops and clubs around. A nearest shop and Subway restaraunt is also about 50 m. Microwave oven is a big advantage too, but nothing else inside the room by default.
The bed seems to be very uneven, was not comfortable to sleep. It was extremely cold inside. Cold air went through the window when outside were +1-+4. It is heard everything that is in the hall, especcially when someone is closing or opening the door. The toilet between floors - there is a move sensor, if you don't move, it will turn your light off.
Internet connection very good for the price of the room. Room a bit small but fairly clean. Kettle and microwave in the room good. TV facing the bed very good.
The sink in the room was running All night. I have asked the reception about totake a look at it. They have told it will be fixed the next morning but it hasn't been taking care off. Shower and toilet clean, but they could have put a sink in there. Seriously there is anouth space.
Quality-price really good. Clean Close to subway station Friendly employees
Not elevator (we were at 6th floor) Share bathroom
I liked the location, staff is polite and helpful and was quiet safe.
The individual rooms are very small and the bathrooms have no curtains or any other covering over the windows.
Good location.Staff is nice.
At late night is very quite might be dangerous for come back late. When walking or bathing are have some noice.
I stayed in this hotel in November 2014, during a transit from London to India via paris. Just stayed for a night. The location is okay, but if you google it the last station it shows from Gare Du Nord is Richard Linear, whereas the closest station is Voltaire, that si 2 minutes walk to the hotel. it took me half an hour to walk to the hotel from Richard linour station. It is not a hotel, it is an apartment with lot many rooms, small rooms, clubbed in a small area. Okay for single person who just want to take a short sleepover. the recpetionist was courteous and helpful and made me checked in smooth. I hardly stayed in the lodge for half a day, so it was okay. the nearby areas are lively. You can visit Bastilee, that is a huge place for dining, eateries and shopping. Its is just 5 minutes walk from the hotel. the washbin in the room was helpful. You have a fridge and a microwave to help you with the food you've bought. Overall not wirth the money i paid. i was getting better deals in the same price. THe locational advantage if you are staying in any of the array 10th 11th 13th is the same. Room Tip: The only charm around is the place bastilee, for shopping and eateries. You can have better options...
it is really difficult to climb if you have heavy luggage. The shared bathrooms was terrible and had self switching lights that kept on switching every 1 minute, then again you have to switch it on. The TV in the room only shows 3,4 french chanels, not worth seeing.there is no outlet to plug in your 3 pin laptop charger.
Overall the hotel is ok, nothing special about the room or utilities but what made me write this review is the fact that the guy from the reception helped me carry a 30 kg case from the 1st to the 4th floor and seemed genuinely happy to help. So yeah 10 points for that!
Staff at reception were always friendly. Location is also excellent since it's just steps away from Voltaire station. Overall, very satisfied with my stay.
A few times that I went into the washroom, it smelled like old urine.
The room was so typically Parisien! Top floor!
Climbing the stairs haha!
$. Only 150m aprox to subway station
There's is no elevator, and the floor is not flat. TV location is very bad, u have 2 seat in certain place to watch it propery. The bathroom could b in the other floor. And they should put a curtain to the bathroom, their measure of privacy is not quite so great
They advertised as a cheap budget hotel but went way beyond that
The facility I have all I need The outside shared bathrooms are fine
Some floors already really broke The stairs are quite dangerous
There is no bathroom in the room, even though there is lavatory
very clean,. very near to metro station
the room was small no elevator
Bathroom 2 flights of stairs down from our room, no lift, quite difficult to get luggage up the narrow stairs 5 flights up!
Location is good - near Voltaire metro stop and Carrefour. Hotel is clean, warm and quiet. Although smoking is allowed our room didn't stink of cigarettes and smoke from corridors wasn't that annoying. Towels and sheets changed every day.
Price - but for Paris it's probably not that high. Rather modest variety of dishes/cutlery in the kitchen, we had to eat soup from mugs :)
A very friendly staff, English-speaking, cosy rooms, good wi-fi, comfortable hotel in general, close to metro
minor shortcomings, it was not so comfortable to go to another floor to use shower or toilet
