The hotel Bristol is a 19th century building, facing the train station and a 20 minute walk from Carcassonne’s medieval city.
Score from 819 reviews Review score
This ibis is in a great location just over half a mile from Carcassonne Train Station and only half a mile from the medieval heart of the city.
Score from 370 reviews Good
Ideally located at the foot of the fortified town at Carcassonne, in a stunning 18th-century building, this hotel offers comfortable rooms overlooking the castle towers or the hotel’s pretty grounds.
Score from 145 reviews Very good
The ibis budget Carcassonne Aéroport is located just over half a mile from the Carcassonne en Pays Cathare Airport and 3 miles from the medieval city center. It has modern rooms with free Wi-Fi...
Score from 495 reviews Good
Very well placed: really close to the town center. It is also at walk distance from the medieval town. Acceptable price/quality ratio.
Musty smell, probably due to the floor carpet. Lacks an elevator, so it might be an issue if you carry heavy luggage.
Lock on ground floor lavatory not working
It was well located for the start of the 16th stage of Tour de France which passed the front of the hotel just after it started. Great atmosphere outside the front of the hotel.
Old and tired. Bathroom drastically in need of update. Reception staff unfriendly.
Location. Good value
Dated decor. Grumpy receptionist.
Good Location for lower town Breakfast available (small charge) Car Parking was limited but we managed to get into the free area
No AC but fan worked well Room small and shabby but towels and bed linen were clean
This hotel was basic. the breakfast was good and the location was great. The room fan was good as I don't like AC. Carcassonne is a great town to visit. there is an excellent restaurant next door to the hotel.
Comfortable; helpful staff; gave access to room before the allotted check-in time so I could leave bags and go around the town unhindered.
Noisy road at night; toilet needs a bit of repair
Good budget hotel. I got a room for two couples although I just neede one bed. Tv, coffe table, small but complete bathroom.
WiFi didn't work so well in the room (3rd floor) but it did work well in the ground floor. You need to be careful with reception hours, make sure you arrive and leave when they tell you to.
The location was near to bars, restaurants and the Cite.
We were in a family room that was advertised as en suite in each of the 2 bedrooms. Nowhere to put clothes in the first room and a cupboard with 2 coat hangers in the other.
Central to new town
Generally scruffy-wifi only in reception, not all areas. Good 30 minutes walk to Le Cite. Noisy .
the hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the train station and it is a 15 to 20 minute walk from the fortress so location is goodwell the price is not cheap but is relatively inexpensive when compared two others in this town
Carcassonne can be cold it is extremely windy and chilly much of the year I saw no evidence that there was any heating in this room I might be wrong but I don't think so also the windows of my room had no shades or shutters the result was that when this heavy wind blows it blows blows through the window causing a chill and draft to blow through the room the roomthe room was reasonably clean and I want to say that many of the reviews on this website emphasize bed bugs and other dirt I saw no evidence of it perhaps they have simply improve the property it is a very very old building very old so do not expect any luxury but it is decently located and compared to other hotels in the area reasonably priced in life as always you get what you pay for
First visit to Carcassonne. Would gladly stay at Au Royal again.
there was no hot water!! the lady was very unkind! the room was very very small
Lack of elevator
Clear instructions from owner on how to get to places by car. Breakfast was ok, French style.
The hotel was filthy dirty; we stayed four days and the first two our room was not touched. Grouting in shower room was black; shower curtain orange at bottom and generally grubby. Carpet in bedroom has not been hoovered in a very long time. Exceedingly dusty too! Wardrobe cupboard was grubby, paint rubbed off and contained two bent wire hangers! We had to almost beg for light bulbs and were told we didn't need more. Breakfast room had cereal over the bar - for all the time we were there and open jars of honey with spoons in - lids never put on all day long. Enough soap for two showers - for two people for four days! Hotel closes at 19:00 with no-one on site. It is no wonder you are made to pay as soon as you walk through the door - if you saw the room you would not stay a minute longer. Note, as no-one around after 19:00 - you cannot get in or out of the car parking after that time either. This hotel does not deserve 2 stars. The owner might do better to get stuck in with some cleaning rather than sitting on the step smoking! We had not noticed the reviews of other travellers and would urge everyone to see our's as we would not have stayed here if we had realised other people's experiences that were the same as our's.
Next to a good restaurant
Dirty shower around base seal
Bed linen and towels were clean. Only the towels were changed in 4 days. Location is very good, easy to walk to shops and restaurants and provides parking, although discovered that was not necessary as free parking available.
Insisted on pay on arrival so could not move out after first night. Room was not clean, carpet in room and common parts dirty, not cleaned throughout 4 day visit. Bathroom tiles and shower door covered in black mould.
Location to old city, shops & restaurants
Hotel was grubby, probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed in and when we saw the dinning room we were relieved that we hadn't booked breakfast. There was cereal scattered on the service bar and a pot of jam with the lid off left over from breakfast and it was 5pm.
not much, the breakfast was adequate, the sheets on the bed were clean, that's about it.
the room was dirty, the shower was filthy, the location was noisy.
Only the location
Filthy room, filthy entrance from parking, filthy shower, tired decor and wouldn't stay there again.
The only one positive thing is the location, really close to the main attractions
The first thing required is the payment. This would not be a bad thing...if supported by good rooms. Unfortunately the room and (in particular) the bed are really dirty, with dust and hairs everywhere. The bathroom with dirty towels. It's clear that there's not the habit to clean the rooms. No one cleaned the room, enev after our official claims.
Proximity to railway station, town and walled city meant that everything was on the doorstep and easily reached on foot. For an economical short city trip, the hotel was more than satisfactory, without any frills.
