Le Moulin de Mombreux  

The staff were friendly. The food was of a good quality.

We stayed at Le Moulin approx. 12 years ago and the accommodation was in the mill itself. The information I read on the website still says/implies that the accommodation is in the mill. Unfortunately a totally new building with no character has been built. The room was not cleaned to the level we would expect and smelt of smoke. The mattress was dipped in several places and the paintwork chipped as well as a hole in the wardrobe. We could not alter the heating temperature so had the window open all the time with the heat escaping from the room. We were very disappointed by our stay as we had expected so much more character and comfort. The food was good, but it used to be exceptional We were very upset to see that all the hard work and committment made by the previous family who owned the mill had vanished. Sorry, but this is our honest opinion.

Before i visited the hotel i did look at previous reports on the Hotel, i must say the negative reports nearly made me cancel the hotel. I am so glad i did not listen to the negative gossip as our stay with Le Moulin De Mombreux was absolutly fantastic and the food was out of this world. The staff were very helpful and i would deffinatly return, but not for one night again but for more. The surroundings were perfect and our window overlooked the river where we saw so much wildlife. We have never felt so relaxed in years as we did staying there.

Location and aspect are great, hotel was clean and comfortable.

The food in the restaurant was very good with a roaring open fire but only let down by a broken heating system which added to the quirky charm of the place. The cellar could do with a restock but it is probably end of season.

Clean tidy rooms at affordable prices. Close to Calais

Accomodation in modern faturless block. Don't be fooled by the photos. Food so so, however there was only one other familey eating in the restaurant and we may not have had chef cooking.

Convenient, comfortable overnight stay to and from Calais.

The restaurant is in a separate building which is very inconvenient when it is raining

The location was beautiful and the colour scheme in the bedroom was very pretty.

The staff did not match the hotel, they looked unkempt, dull, tired. The lighting in the bedroom was appalling, the headboard was way wider than the width of the bed which looked odd and the grouting around the bath had gone with big black gaps which made it look dirty. The restaurant is big and pretty but there was only one another table occupied when we ate there. The ground floor was empty, we ate on the first floor. The staff stayed on the ground floor so my husband had to go downstairs to get their attention !!!! The food was very heavy, mediocre, my sea bass brochette was all dried out and the cabbage overcooked which tasted disgusting. The sorbets were incredibly good, the best I have ever had. We stopped there on our way to the tunnel, we should have carried on and stayed in a lovely village in Kent and saved ourselves a lot of money !!!!

Hot water for shower was only luke warm. Breakfast was way overpriced. Person at front desk in the evening didn't speak any English

Our room on the ground floor was spacious, especially for a French hotel, clean and comfortable. Regretfully the only windows were french windows that opened the full height and as we were at ground level we felt we had to keep them closed as we slept. As there was no a/c and no other means of ventilation our room became very warm and stuffy and uncomfortable during the night. (We were there in September) Delightfully when we did open them at dawn we were greeted by a serenade from the many ducks and a lone goose that had spent the night on the river bank beneath our window. We enjoyed dinner upstairs in the old mill restaurant which we found very pleasant and the food quite good. The service was exemplary too. The whole hotel complex is very pictureque with spacious car parking. We had noted from previous posts that the hotel was a bit difficult to find so we had printed off various maps and guides, plust having two sat navs, but sure enough we still got lost and it took us half an hour to find it once we'd arrived in the area. Once found it was ludicrously easy and left us wondering where we had gone wrong the first time. Our advice would be - don't cross the river! The crucial question - would we stay again? The answer is, yes, and we'd look forward to it, which says all.

Apart from a stuffy room (which wouldn't have been had we felt able to leave the ground floor french windows open all night) we were also disappointed with the shower. It was a standard shower head at the end of a flexible hose designed to hang on a wall bracket, but there was no sign that one had ever been fitted. We found the shower coiled up in the bottom of the bath and to use it, it had to be held aloft with one hand - most inconvenient - which was a great pity because it was a powerful shower with plenty of hot water. Perhaps the lack of shower curtain was the clue that it wasn't meant to be actually used as a shower !

Convenient for the Tunnel and a comfortable rest before the journey to the South West of France. We would have liked to stay on the retuirn journey but you were not able to accommodate us. There you go!

the peace and quiet of the site and the friendliness of the staff.

it is a shame that there was no allowance of tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
