Overnight stop. Got a value deal, excellent value for money. We did not eat at the hotel, it is located so close to the town so we opted for eating in town. Very good customer care - staff could not have been more helpful. Room was excellent. I have no doubt we will return.
Staff wouldn't be helpful when you do have a problem.
walking distance to the centre of town. the seminar was also in the hotel, that is why i chose to stay there. good price, friendly staff, nothing to complain about.
Location, location, location Nice large rooms Comfortable bed Friendly staff
we were given a small bottle of water per person in the minibar on the first day, which was great - however although we stayed there for 3 days they did not replace them when we drank them. When we than asked to buy one from reception we were charged 7 euro for a bottle of water which we felt was exaggerated. The best restaurants in Avignon charge only 5 euro a bottle!
The location is perfect. The room was also excellent.
Lack of dining and bar facilities.Car parking some distance from hotel
good location to visit avignon city center and the bridge.
not easy to find the parking which is detached from the hotel
Size of room and location(close to anything and can be reached by car)
No wifi for the first day of stay. Door separating bedroom from sitting room couldn't be closed(!)
The room was really nice. Roomy and well appointed. In the end the staff was nice.
We had a dog with us, and not until we arrived were we told there was a fee. Unfortunately the wifi didn't work at all while we were there, though I'm not sure that was their fault. They did give us a break in the end. Mini bar was empty, but maybe that was on purpose.
Someone before us smoked in the room
Spacious rooms and bath was nice.
Furniture is not comfortable.
We were driving and needed a hotel close to the centre of Avignon but not so close that we'd get snarled up in traffic and narrow streets. The Grand was perfect, with an underground car park and reasonable tariff. The hotel is directly opposite the old wall around Avignon and is therefore a very pleasant 10-15 minute walk to the very centre. The lobby bar was fine and the room we had was fabulous. The staff were very helpful and booked us in for dinner in The Grand's sister hotel around the corner - Le Cloitre - where we had a top class meal that was good value for money.
The breakfast didn't quite live up to the four star billing of the hotel.
Huge rooms for the price - more of a suite than a room. Very well connected, as it is next to the central station and the main gate of the cite. Very comfortable beds.
Very limited eating options in the hotel itself. It no longer has a restaurant in the building, and the room service options are limited
good size room helpful/friendly staff
Excellent location. Big, nice room. Friendly staff.
No or unstable internet connection inside the room. Need to go to the corridor to get connected.
the big bathroom
They didn't tell us breakfast and parking were not included
The property is less than a block from the train station and just across the street from the ancient city wall. Part of the adventure here is just finding your way around this medium size city. Its history and the associated buildings are truly remarkable. Guidebook guidance: The Papal Palace is great! Don't miss it. But, the bridge ruins are not worth going to the trouble to find.
Both evening meals we had were unremarkable; simply plane and dull. At the same time, each wait staff commonly proved annoyingly, abrupt, notably ungracious and altogether discourteous. It must take a lot of practice!
Well located (close to the train station and many good restaurants, large room, quiet and clean and a good value)
Parking in the hotel Kettle in the suite Pets welcome Good location Silence Nice view
Bad air-conditioning, noisy to sleep with the open windows Wi-fi not steady
nice and clean room wifi.the bedroom with sliding door to the seperated living area and bathroom.Situated close to everything ..shopping street, restaurant, ... :)
no free parking,it costs 16 euro/night to park at undergrounded parking of the hotel.
Good location Overlooked garden so quiet
paper cups; poor choice of coffee etc in room air conditioning noisy
it was very quiet and clean with good proximity to the town and included a large car park
Wifi almost non existent in the room which was very frustrating
The room and bathroom were very big, included a small living room.
The hotel is too big.
Lovely room with nice separate lounge, very effective sound proofing
Not easy to find drop off spot for car, extra for parking in public carpark
Room size (we paid for superior room), and position. Some staff were friendly and helpful. Not much else.
For a superior suite it needed to be refreshed. Some walls & furniture looked tired. The double glazed windows in the sitting area could not be opened as a note said it was damaged. This room should not have been available until that window had been fixed. Not everyone wants to sit in sealed rooms with airconditioning. The airconditioning was just adequate and we left it on permanently. Lucky for us the bedroom window could be opened. I wore earplugs as the room faced the main street. I had pre-requested a quiet room in my booking and to get that there were extra costs which I found out on arrival so,to have a room looking over the garden (not on street or railway station) it would have been an extra 20E per night. The attitude of stinginess made one feel it was not a 4 star hotel. It wasn't cheap to stay here, though thru booking.com it made it possible). The supply of 2 coffee sachets, 2 disposable coffee cups, 2 teas, sugar & 2 small 1 serve milks did not reflect the marketing of this 4 star hotel. Also not a full range of toiletries on first night ( we stayed 2 nights) and 1 bottle of complementary water for 2 people set the scene. We left a note for the room staff for double supply of coffee cups/coffee and water. All supplied except for water. Full set of toiletries were left. We also didn't do breakfast here, too expensive and you could eat inside the wall of the old town at reasonable prices. This hotel is aimed at the business community, people with very large wallets, and groups. Anyone outside these really don't cut it. It was hard to feel welcome and a valued customer. If you give people a room that was supposed to be a superior room with broken windows, and obviously needing a refresh it was NOT a superior room and you show contempt for your paying customers. Stay here at your own risk.
lots to see, palais des papes especially the evening sound and light performance (August to October). Pont D'avignon excelllent audio commentary available in English, tourist train... Tourism office really helpful as were staff in hotel...
A place to visit in good weather, lots of walking and cobbled streets are tiring..sound and light show only in French, would be better to have audio unit with translation which is available for Pont d'Avignon and tour of the palais des papes.
