Close to the Tunnel Did not see any staff. Tried to phone for directions, and was sent to an answerphone. There were no lights on so it was hard to find, we had to ask at the pizza parlour next door but one because you could not see it. We eventually figured out the key machine as there was no staff and they did not answer the door when we knocked on it. The blankets looked like the dog had slept on them.

The fact that it was so near the Euro tunnel was its only redeeming feature I would not recommend this hotel to anyone it was unclean smelt and was so noisy i found it hard to sleep. In serious need of an update. As with many couples who have stayed at this hotel the lack of towels is an issue. I think the hotel pictures are also very misleading with regards to size.

Staff were helpful and friendly in responding to questions or problems with service. The location was perfect for accessing the facilities of Calais and also seing other towns in the area: Boulogne-Sur-mer or St Omer, etc. The facilities are basic (no clothes hangers; single set of towels for two people, room very small, tv french speaking only), not so much a hotel more a dormitory. There is no bar and very limited dining facilities. Even when the later was open it looked so uninviting that we went elsewhere to eat. Totally unsuitable for a three night stay. In the evening you had no option but to go out as there is no lounge or communal area to use, meaning you are limited to your room, which has very little space. Even travellers who are using the Balladins as a stopover would like a nice meal and somewhere to relax. This hotel had none of these. The web site does not accurately describe the hotel and the available facilities.

Location relative to the tunnel terminal, price and a good selection for breakfast. Unsecured parking a bit of a worry with all of the people around the ferry port and tunnel terminal.

We booked the hotel as a sort of pit stop on the way to Paris. It was very reasonably priced and to be honest we didn't expect a great deal for the money that we paid. However we were quite surprised, the hotel although it could do with a little bit of refurbishment here and there was clean and tidy. The rooms were a little on the small side but perfectly fine for a one or two night stay and very clean. Breakfast was the typical continental affair but again perfectly acceptable and the coffee was good (always a good sign). In particular the reception staff were very helpful, I am learning to speak French and they were both patient and helpful. Overall the hotel offers very good value for money it's not the Ritz but then it doesn't pretend to be. 9/10 It is always easy to complain but really for the cost of the hotel it was pretty good value all round.

Having reserved through Bookings.com I was able to reduce the length of my stay at short notice without any penalty. Three rooms all smelt of cigarette smoke. No kettle. Poor sound insulation.

We booked the hotel for an overnight stay prior to our visit to the UK,we only liked the location as it was close to the ferry port. The hotel was very tired looking and was well overdue for a renovation and re-paint.The walls in the corridors were very scruffy as were the walls in the bedrooms. The bathroom was in a poor shape and neede urgent attention to tileing and shower sealing. The carpets in the halls, stairs and rooms were an absolute disgrace and needed burning.Even the outside sign was virtually destroyed, all in all a very sorry place.

The room was dirty and dangerous with broken electric sockets black mould on the bathroom ceiling and the most difficult check in procedure I have ever encountered. In the morning when I spoke to the receptionist she was rude unhelpful and gave me a false address to email the hotel.

The location of the hotel served the purpose for which we chose the hotel. The location is very close to the Euro Tunnel so it was a great choice to have a good night sleep. The machine on which we could do the self checking was very easy to use and straight forward. Breakfast was extremely good and hotel staff were very friendy. The room was small, so the pictures were a bit misleading.

They are generally very good value for money. Staff were courteous and helpful. The price and location is generally very good for stopovers on the way to skiing and on the way home. main light in bedroom not working, one set of towels instead of two, no toilet roll holder, hook on bathroom door missing for dressing gown etc,. due to a problem there was no water for shower, toilet etc. in the morning and no water for the tea and coffee machine. this is not our normal experience with Balladin Hotels and we will use them again, this was an unexpected disaster.

Nothing. If its the last bed in town I would go back but not under any other circumstances. Bedding was clean but the room was filthy. The skirting boards around the room had a build up of dust and detritis. The room was stinking of cigarett smoke. The bathroom sink was dirty and had cigarette burns to it. The shower was engrained with dirt and human hair was left in the shower tray. The paint work was dirty and mouldy. 22Nd March I was in the shower when the water was cut off.No water in the hotel resulting me and others not able to wash or have breakfast. The beds are so narrow causing difficulties in getting a good night sleep.
