Convenient location to visit Fougeres Chateau. Saturday markets just outside in the street. Friendly Hosts. Good breakfast. Restaurants closeby in surrounding streets. Internet access. Separate connecting room for kids with own toilet and tv. I found the church bells to be annoying as I am a light sleeper, my family had no issue with them at all tho.

We found it a most delightful hotel in true French style. Small and personal, very comfortable, and altogether most agreeable. We loved Fougere and will certainly return both to the town and to the hotel.

The attention and care from the owners even for small details. For instance, in the morning a weather map forecast of the region was printed from internet and available at the front desk. Very appreciated The fact that the wifi router was not in operation, so I had to go to Mac Donalds to connect to the web and see mails

Personnel was very nice and hotel was very cosy. Good breakfast. Thanks! Although we have left the message while making the reservation via booking.com, nobody have read it. I guess, it is because they don't read english..

Brilliant location right in the heart of Fougères with the local market right outside on Saturday morning selling all manner of local produce. Room was a reasonable size, very clean and with all the facilities you need. Staff we dealt with were very polite and friendly despite the language barrier and the price represented very good value. I would definitely stay there again.

it is a great location as in the heart of the city and close to theatre, restautants and bars etc I prefer hotels that are a little bit individual and the Balzac is.

Excellent staff - very welcoming. Very pretty location in the centre of Fougeres. Only real complain would be that the hotel is literally across the street from the church and the clock chimes every fifteen minutes through the night.

Warm welcome from helpful owners who were happy to give information and to talk to us. Although parking at the hotel is limited to drop-off/pick- up, there was a free underground car-park about 5 minutes walk. The location was excellent to walk through the medieval part and the higher part of the town. Good value for the money.

This hotel was old, beautifully maintained, staff helpful and friendly. Location to points of interest nearby and enjoyed. Nothing was wrong, big improvement over the previous hotel.Would be nice to have 2 chairs to sit on instead of only one and the bed.

The location in the upper town is fantastic. The lady who runs the place is lovely and although no english is spoken, she speaks clearly and slowly enough to be understood or at least get the gist of things. The room we had was on the top floor, lift to the third floor then a couple of flights of stairs. Not much in the way of a view, but then we only wanted to sleep in there. Breakfast is nice but not of the buffet variety. Orange juice, coffee, baguette, croissant and brioche is delivered to your table, but once it's gone, it's gone. Cereals and yoghurts also available. Free parking can be found near the 'Hotel de Ville' which is about 300/400 yards away. The bathroom! The shower lacked pressure and the toilet (!) was a pump and vacuum variety which would wake the entire neighbourhood if flushed at night. Our second night experience at the Balzac was awful although it wasn't strictly the fault of the hotel. The room next door to us housed at least 3 people who were obviously a bit drunk and were very loud ALL night only giving us respite at about 05.30 in the morning. Reception isn't 24hr so there was no-one to complain to at the time!

Fantastic friendly owner - they really couldn't do enough to assist, and accommodated all our odd arrival and departure times with humour and efficiency. My boy was treated very well - with the owners finding little toys for him to play with during his stay. Service in the most pleasant and family oriented way. Thankyou.

Lovely location & very quaint. Beautiful town. The manager was very friendly & spoke English well. The lights in halls were on very short timer switches, so a bit tricky with young children.

Short drive from St Malo and location to have an early start to Mont St Michel. Although a none smoking room was requested, you could still smell the cigarette smoke from previous occupants. The room decor was also dated.
