The perfect location to explore the beautiful town, castle and countryside.

The location was very central for the town with free parking near by. Fantastic market just outside the hotel saturday morning. Some lovely inexpensive boutiques.

Actually did not worry us but the market started setting up around 5.30am so be warned if you are not early risers.

Lovely hotel, in Lovely City, well worth a visit! The city has lots to visit, and make sure you make your way to St. Michel mountain. It's just a 40 min drive.

The reception closes at 9 pm, so you have to tell them if you'll be arriving late. Other than that, great value!

The location is very good, the owners are very nice people and do help you. It is a 2 star hotel but has WI FI, good showers, very clean.

friendly, relaxed atmosphere, comfortable bedroom with extra large bed. very clean and well maintained, excellent breakfast, with delicious assortment of home made jams, perfect location in the centre of this beautiful town.

Ideally located right in the middle of the old quarter. Great for Saturday morning markets that are right outside the door. Lots of nice restaurants and creperies in easy walking distance

Rooms are small and parking offsite is a minor hassle but not a big problem.

Very friendly, helpful owner and clean rooms. The location is excellent.

Parking was slightly awkward - there is on-street parking within a short walk, but no parking at all outside the hotel on Saturdays when the street market operates, and only 20 mins at a time at other times. This wasn't a big problem except that we had a lot of stuff in the car and we were a little worried about it getting broken into. Not a problem in Fougeres, as it turns out.

Shower would be better served by the door than a curtain.

The location and price were both very good and the people who worked there were very nice. The rooms were clean though small and we had a comfortable sleep here.

It said on our reservation that the front desk was open until midnight and to let them know if we would be later then that. We arrived at 10 pm and the front desk was closed. They left a key for us on the front door with french instructions (our french was not too good) we figured out how to get in and which room was ours however we had to guess on where to park as there was no one there to ask. I found this a bit stressful and annoying as we could have been there earlier or at lest would have made better arrangements had we known the front desk would be closed. All in all it worked out fine and I would stay there again but not if I were arriving late.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Location was perfect, right in the old town. Rooms were fine.

The receptionist was really helpful and the hotel staff made our stay really pleasant.

I liked EVERYTHING. I hope most French hotels will copy their cleaning techniques, mainly for their toilets/bathrooms/carpets maintenance. It was really sparkling, neat and cosy. At Balzac hotel we felt like at home.

The staff who have recently taken over the hotel are extremely friendly. It is an ideal spot for those wishing to explore the locale and the town itself.

Great location in centre of 'High' town of Fougere which we visited during a cycle tour of Northern Brittany. Traditional french hotel on a pedestrianised historic street but with car and cycle access from behind. Really helpful owner/proprietor at reception and serving breakfast, he was more than happy to put our cycles in his secure cellar. There was free internet access in reception. The room was a little small (perhaps because the on-suite was correspondingly a bit too large!) and the decor could probably do with modernising, but all in all a good hotel which was comfortable, clean and very very fairly priced

Hotel is very conveniently located and has its charm. Room was comfortable, with large bed and clean bathroom, well-equipped bathroom. Staff was very helpful, leaving really good impression. Fast wifi.

Expect some trouble finding a parking spot in front of the hotel, if arriving during the day (it's rather busy part of town).

The Balzac Hotel is in a lively City of Fougeres and is wonderfully located. The owners are very friendly and helpful, you will not be disappointed and they recommended a fabulous restaurant a 2 min walk away. Clean rooms, a bit small but beautifully decorated. I would recommended to anyone who wanted a good weekend break.

The room was a bit small, but it is a city property in a 17th century building, so no real issues there.

Parking was difficult, although we received clear directions where to find parking (I could see where this could fill up).

Friendly helpful staff. Good central location in the town. Good breakfast and service.

Friendly, helpful manager. Located in on the main (pedestrianised) street in Fougere, an historic walled city with well preserved castle, half way between Loire and Cherbourg. Good guided walks around the town with a mix of well laid out gardens, historic buildings and traffic fee routes. Free undercover parking nearby off Place Lariboisiere: ask for directions from manager.

Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Room was small but comfortable. Furnishings a bit dated, but that added to the charm

Friendly staff - lady spoke excellent English but was prepared to allow us to practice our French. Great location in the heart of the town above the castle. Room wasa good size and very quiet.

Super friendly family run hotel. The hotel is right in the middle of the beautiful medieval town of Fougeres, and has all the old world charm and french ambience you could want. We traveled with our two sons and my three year old loved the bunk beds. If you're stopping of in Fougeres for a few nights I would highly recommend the Balzac Hotel.

The room was a bit small but there was so much to do around the town that it really didn't matter that much.
