Very good management and staff! Always helpful and nice in every way, big plus to you!. I have asthma so my lungs reacted a bit to the strong perfumescent in the hotelroom. Just had to explain that to the manager & staff & after that it was no problem again. Good cleanliness! The hotel lies about 400 m from Place de Bastille so for us it was perfect. It´s also very easy to find if you have taken the rer to Gare du Nord and are walkning from there. We always walk a lot since it´s the best way to see and discover new places so the location was perfect! If you don´t like walkning there are metrostations close by to the hotel. The neighbourhood feels safe even late in the evening/night. The pictures can be a bit misleading. They are renovating the hotel (I think under this year) so when we stayed there it was only level 5 & 4 that were "fresh". They were renovating level 3 and next week they will be finished with that and start with level 2 - at least accordning to the managment. So if you want to be sure to get at renovated room - call the hotel! We got a non renovated room. But it was ok and clean and the bathroom were newer than the room. But overall it was totally ok! Just remember that you pay the same amount for a renovated room as for one of the older ones. The management showed us two of the renovated rooms in level 5... and it was a big difference from our room!

Initially I booked this hotel considering its price and classification on booking.com. I had already been in three different three-star hotels in Paris, which were expensive considering their quality and had old and dusty carpets on the floor which really affected my rhinitis. As such I wasn't very enthusiastic about chosing a two-star hotel but it turned out to be by far the best hotel I have been in Paris. It has a very nice modern and sober decoration in the lobby and bedrooms, english speaking and friendly concierges (very rare in Paris) and the room was very well cleaned (the carpet was probably less than 2 years) and it had free wi- fi. Besides, the price is much lower than three star hotels. The hotel in the Marais area, a 10 min walking distance from the Bastille. This isn't the most beautiful area of Paris - St Germain is the best area to stay if you're a tourist, in my opinion. Nevertheless, the hotel is very very near a metro station (Chemin vert) and near two zones for bike renting. There are cheap restaurants just across the street, or 10 min away at the Bastille. So I guess the location isn't really a problem.

Great Location. There was a lovely mexican restaurant just 2 minutes from the hotel. We asked for a quiet room and it was excellent. I would definitely stay here again!

Tipical little hotel of Paris, well furnished and confortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Located near the metro station and with a very good wi-fi internet free connection. The room was quiet and clean. Even if I booked a room for two persons, it was too small even for a single person

The staff, from the receptionists to the chamber maids, gave some of the most pleasant and friendly service I have ever received - despite my appalling French. The hotel is quite stylish and the rooms were perfectly fresh and clean and had recently been redecorated. The location was good too - about 10 minutes' walk to the heart of the Marais, five minutes to Place des Vosges. Notre Dame was about 30 minutes away. Everything else we wanted to see (the Louvre, etc) seemed to be a €15 taxi away (as of Nov 2011), which made sense for three people. With any luck, I'll be back. Being a traditional Irish mother and tea addict, my mother-in-law would have liked a kettle in her room. I found the heating a bit difficult to control.

The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful, especially with food suggestions, directions and computer/printer help. This hotel is elegant and delightful, immaculately clean and intimate in scale. Since our last visit in 2007 it has been completely renovated. I can't wait to return!

Great location if you like to stroll around Marais. Also close to 3 metro stations, easy to get around. Friendly staff. Small but clean rooms, has all the necessary amenities for the price paid. The room we stayed in faced the street and had dark curtains only which meant that if we wanted to get some sun light into the room we had to expose ourselves to the street...

Small rooms, small hotel, but great great service, spotlessly clean, soft bedlinen and towels, and tastefully decorated premises and people always so helpful with all details, from open a bottle of wine and offer a proper wine glass, to arrange ice for a slightly injured leg, they were all smiling and making sure that one is really happy.

The staff at Bastille De Launay were very welcoming and friendly. Although the room was small (normal for Paris standards!) it had everything we needed. The decor was great, the bed comfortable and the bathroom perfect. The breakfast room was lovely and the breakfast itself was one of the best we had.

Very friendly staff. The room was quite small but modern. People could easily see inside our room from the street (big windows from floor to ceiling facing some stairs outside).

Spacious, clean, properly equipped single room: convenient bed, big enough bedside table with phone, a desk, a plastic design chair and a white metal luggage rack. Proper cupboard with sliding mirror doars, fitted with sufficient coat hangers (7 or 8 wooden, loose, not fastened),, hiding a small cupboard safe and a well-stocked, albeit a bit pricy minibar, as well as a large extra blanket and wash bags. Air- conditioned room, with central heating for the winter. Sufficient number of plugs for various electronic devices of a guest. Flat screen tv (a series of French channels + one us, Spanish, Italian, German, each). Info sheets both on tv channels and minibar pricelist on a narrow, wide desk, along with a box of paper napkins and the tv remote control. Proper lighting (desk, bedside, general) with conveniently located switches. Emergency exit instructions with floor map in several languages on the wall (fortunately, no other decoration). Clean, painted walls (one pea green, three white), dark brown, soft carpet flooring. Very clean, spacious bathroom with shower "triangle", towel rack, large, well-lit mirror. Elevator serving all front side rooms. Cosily furnished lobby with an extra computer desk for guests, with quality albums on the shelves (would sit about 8 people at a time). All five frontdesk officers (2 gentlemen, 3 ladies) I happened to meet with, spoke English and were very friendly, they have conveyed a feeling of real hospitality; on check-in they have specifically offered to provide info for wi-fi connection (free on the entire location), I did not have to inquire. Key-card to be returned to the reception whenever leaving the hotel (provides added security that the room would not be accessed by unauthorized persons). The hotel is easy distance from Bastille and Place des Vosges in the Marais (m5: Bastille, b65: Saint Gilles-Chemin Vert from both Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est). Would not mind a net curtain, in addition to the black out one, as the building is located in a narrow side street with frontside and courtyard rooms overlooking other houses. Would not mind a hot-water kettle. Would have preferred loose blanket, not the UK-style bedding. Not the hotel's fault, but would prefer more considerate fellow guests (loud, long talks in the corridor and courtyard, early morning and after midnight). Not the hotel's fault either but the street itself is not in a posh vicinity (I have been well aware of this when making the booking).
