The staff were all wonderful! The building has very clearly gone under heavy renovations recently, I hadn't read the reviews on tripadvisor until a day or two before we were going to leave so I was terrified of dirty rooms and bedbugs but the rooms were very clean! When we got in the card machine was broken and the owner sort of demanded cash which was a little off putting, but when we were five euros short he said it was no problem and we could give it to him later. So I wish they had thought of an alternative but in the end it was fine. There are some tiny spots of mold on the ceiling in the bathroom, and the shower is very open so that water gets all over the bathroom when you are showering. Other than that, no complaints!

Location is great, 2 minutes walking from Place de Clichy underground station, friendly staff (they speak English). Internet worked very well inside the room (I was in room 22 on 2nd floor). Cheap and good breakfast. I stayed 6 nights with no problem at all. Everything was very good, nothing to complain.

The hotel is right next to a metro station and restaurants. The staff is very friendly and the continental breakfast is copious and of high quality for a price you won't find anywhere else on the block. The rooms are clean and have showers. I would recommend Hotel Bertha to travelers on a budget who appreciate a little comfort but who need no frills. Four flights of stairs without an elevator option would be a problem for some travelers.

-Location -staff speaks English -wifi worked well -Smelly bed linen, also found unknown hair in my `fresh` bed linen - towels looked so dirty I did not even touch them -it was 8 degrees outside, inside max. 12. So generally no heating in my room.. We asked at the reception to turn the heating higher, nothing has happened. So I had to sleep in socks, wool sweater and scarf... -As the heating does not exist in room nr 10(1st floor, at the front corner of the building), due to the humidity there was black mold(!!!) at the corner of the room! Not dots of mold, rather palm-size black parts on the falling- off wallpaper. -The wastewater pipe runs through of the bathroom. Actually there is no noise isolation, it sounds like a loud waterfall next to you when your neighbours above you(4 floors) are having a shower. -My bed base was missing 1 stick, therefore my back hurted when I got up in the morning. Do not stay here, unless you need to survive 1 night in Paris. I am not a sissy:I sleep very deep, and I need nothing else than a more or less comfortable bed, clean bed linen and 18 degrees in my room. I got none of these. Unfortunately I did not listen to the previous feedbacks when I booked here. It bittered my stay in Paris. A hostel is a much better choice if you look for a budget solution. I would not even call Bertha as a hostel and it`s name is a hotel, LOL

Location and price were excellent. The shower in our room didn't work and despite multiple complaints, was never fixed during our stay. In addition our room, which fronted onto a busy boulevard, was very noisy at night due to insufficiently insulated windows.

The staff where polite & helpful. The hotel's location was fantastic with a supermarket, the metro & alot of great places to eat within a minutes walk. The leaflets & maps in the entrance were very helpful. The bathroom was too small as there was barely enough room for me to move when i'm a pretty small person. There was nothing to hold the shower head up as the fitting had broken. The shelf was too close to the sink so you couldn't lean over it, you had to squeeze your head between the 2. You could hear every time someone else had used their bathroom as the waste pipe was uncovered & extremely noisy, it also leaked a little bit behind the toilet. The wallpaper was peeling off the wall in places. The curtains didn't actually block out any of the light. There was only 1 coat hanger in the wardrobe so neither of us could really use the wardrobe. The lock on the room door & the door itself had been bent out of shape making it difficult to un/lock the door as well as opening it. Although there was a large number of channels on the tv, they were all in French which seemed to be disregarding guests who aren't fluent in the language.

Only good thing was it was close to a metro station, which is a must for going to Paris, you can only get around by bike or Metro. Ok, so we get to hotel Bertha for our 4 night stay in Paris. The following problems were: No lift and only narrow stair case, this was ok for us but older people would have a lot of trouble and your unlikely to get any help from the staff. Insect/Bug problem - our room was full of fruit flies cause the cleaners had left the window open, so we got moved to another room for the second night. Then they moved us again cause they needed the room they moved us to for someone else, this would not have been too bad except for the fact they went into our room when we were out and moved all our stuff to the new room!!!!!!!!! Breakfast is a joke, don't buy it. Were we're told on booking.com that there would be a minibar in our room, there wasn't. Wifi is terrible, takes hours (and I really mean hours) to days to connect our smart phones. Lack of power points. Towels - the shower towels was disgusting, every new room we went in we had to go downstairs to get fresh towels cause the ones we had were suspiciously damp. This suspicion was confirmed that they were used towels when we were given a used towel by one of the staff when there was no clean ones available, and we had to go back to reception the following morning to get clean towels. Room condition - everything was falling apart, many holes in the walls, and the door was very hard to open. Fire alarm went off for 30 mins at 3am on our last night. Don't stay at this hotel!!!!!!!!!!! This is the first time I have ever said this in a review so you know I'm not exaggerating. I've visited most of western Europe and I don't think Paris is that great, but if you must visit Paris, find a hotel that meats your budget well out of the city, but just make sure it's near a metro station.

The location was convenient, as there were plenty of cafes in the area and it was a 2-minute walk to the nearest metro station. The shower was rather small, and I would have preferred a kettle in the room.
