The hotel Castex has been our preferred hotel for several visits to Paris. It is quiet, comfortable and has a great location near the Bastille and St Paul metros. If you want to walk into Paris it is 15 minutes up the road and the Seine is just 5 minutes away, as is Notre Dame and Place Des Vosges. As in all of Paris there are great bakeries and pastry shops all around. Some of the best falafel are just minutes away in Rue du Rosiers and there some excellent Moroccan places east of Bastille. There is a very good Monoprix supermarket 5 minutes walk away and a laundromat around the corner. The staff are very friendly and efficient and there is free wifi.

My 17 yr old daughter and I just returned from a 3 day trip to Paris. The hotel was fantastic for our needs. Not fancy but very adequate. The room was small and breakfast was ok but the best part of it was the location. Just 3 streets from the metro and 15 min walk to Notre Dame. The area was safe at night and around the corner was a laundry mat. The neighborhood had tons of cafes and shops. Would definitely think about staying there again!

Excellent, friendly staff. Great, QUIET, location which can be difficult in Paris. Wonderful housekeeper and very clean. Staff responsive to any problems. Size of room, very small but, c'est la vie for Paris in this price range of 120 euros nightly.

I chose the Castex Hotel for its fantastic location in the Marais. I have stayed there previously and enjoyed it. I was extremely disappointed to arrive on this trip to be told that my room had plumbing issues and that I would need to spend the first night of my trip in a different hotel in an entirely different location before transferring back to the Castex, and even more disappointed that there was no reduction in the charges to compensate for the quite significant inconvenience.

The hotel is in a really great location - stones throw away from the restaurant Bofinger which was excellent (recommended by a local). Plus lots of boutique shops / main shops nearby. It is very close to Bastille and St Pauls metro stops, so easy to get to all of the attractions. The staff at the hotel were lovely and we were pleasently surprised by the room (good value). Would have liked a bath, but pretty happy with the room otherwise.

The quiet location in a busy part of Paris that has not been too gentrified yet was ideal for me and my friend to reach from Eurostar/Gare du Nord - 15 mins by taxi or a simple metro ride to Bastille (note that you get out at exit 7 and there is quite a long underground walk to get out at Bastille. The rooms are small (choose one facing the courtyard for least noise) but functional with comfortable beds and have all one needs for a city break. Lots of reasonable local cafes for breakfast and people watching if you don't want to eat breakfast in the hotel. There is a good folder near reception with information on Paris and the staff are friendly and helpful. Good bus and metro connections to other parts of the city and lots to see locally. I will stay there again. The lid of our toilet seat was coming adrift and the shower, though lovely and hot and with good pressure was hard to handle without flooding the bathroom floor because there is only a shower curtain and not a shower door and the curtain was too short to stop leakage out of the shower basin - both matters that could easily be sorted out by the hotel management.

A great find in the Marais. Clean, quiet with friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast in the old cellar. One negative.....had to change rooms because some inconsiderate guest had been smoking in there (this is against the law in France). The gentleman in charge was most embarrassed and obliging.

Convenient to everything. Efficient, interested staff - made me feel as if they truly cared about my visit to Paris and stay in the hotel. Unfortunately, I slipped in the bathtub and ended up falling out of it, injuring my back on the toilet. First time ever in all of my times in hotels - and homes.

The hotel was very nice, it had everything needed for several days in Paris. The only inconvenience was that the room was tiny, but it wasn't a big problem, as we were just sleeping there. Tea/coffee facilities in the room were very helpful, Internet in the lobby of the hotel was free. A bottle of wine was a present from the hotel, which was nice ))) Breakfast was great! Wide selection just for 10 euros, which is very cheap for Paris. The location is perfect: quiet area, supermarkets, stores and a metro station in a few minute walk. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Friendliness of front desk staff who made our stay that much more enjoyable, room was reasonably sized for Paris and relatively clean as was the bathroom. The hotel is ideally located and looks ok from the front. Room contained all the items one doen't necessarily want to pack I.E. kettle, hairdryer etc. Quite expensive compared to comparable hotels in other major cities. Nice room in a garden location, but quite drafty and not particularly private as the drapes do not full close, leaving a view into the room at all times, but hey ho, that might be your bag!!!!!
