Location, the building and its grounds, the attentive owner and the excellent food.
This beautiful chateau is well maintained and the owners were very welcoming. The sun had come out as we arrived and the swimming pool (which is lovely and clean) was uncovered so our children could cool down after a long car journey. Unfortunately we weren't there long enough to sit in the wonderful gardens. Next time!
everything about the chateau was excellent starting with the "lady of the manor" - nothing was too much trouble for her. on one occasion when it was raining she came out almost immediately with umbrellas when we returned from an outing by car. made sure all our needs were met. rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean. lovely swimming pool and large gardens and forrest around. chateau situated out in the country - tranquil and quiet - yet within easy reach of Tours and Chinon. if we ever return to that area will most definitely stay there again. verghese family
dogs being allowed in the bedrooms - though none there at the time we were there. from the point of hygiene do not approve of dogs being on the beds or chairs which are distinct possibilities depending on the owners of the dogs.

Just stay here you won't believe how lovely it is. Beautiful chateau gardens hosts swimming pool forest walks deer absolutely wonderful !!
A unique spot in the marvelous Loire-valley: peaceful, classy. It was a unique discovery.
Such a beautiful building . . totally symmetrical from the outside set in very attractive gardens surrounded by woods . . swimming pool and table tennis. Once inside it is pure elegance with high ceilings elegant furniture and french windows overlooking the parklands. We had a glass of champagne and canapes with our hosts before supper . . which they had prepared; a very enjoyable meal. Our two spaniels were well behaved but also enjoyed the space to let off some steam after the drive up from Bordeaux. Our hosts - who welcomed us on the steps of their beautiful house - were charming. For us Tours is an ideal first night stay from our home in Guildford on our twice yearly drive down to Cadiz so we will be looking forward to many more stays at Chateau des Essards.
For us Chateau des Essards ticked all the boxes.
