Château de Vallagon  

I loved the aesthetic of the castle, the ambience and the service was excellent. The location is perfect. It has a beautiful garden, lots of outdoor sitting areas and a lovely pool.

The room was not very clean. There was no soap in the bathroom, no telephone and no internet connectivity in the room, only in the hotel lobby.

The chateau is a real castle and is quite pretty outside and the interior decor is simple and rustic. Its tasteful but there is No comfort!!! It is very cheap. This place could be great if there was some basic comfort like heat, thick towels, robes, option to purchase a gourmet snack pack etc, but it was miserable. We had to leave after 1 night. We had booked 4 nights.

Arrived in winter to be told it was quiet - no other guests and the hostess left at 5pm. The castle was very cold. The heating did not work. The walls in side the castle are ice cold to touch! You have to sit in bed to keep warm. The towels were paper thin. There was no tv! The bed was terrible and sheets and pillows shabby. There is no sitting room so nowhere to sit except in bed or dining room chairs and freeze. The pipes rattle so it was creepy at night alone in the big empty castle in the middle of nowhere! There is no restaurant or food and no one in grounds. Nearest restaurant 10 minute drive in cold and dark. No horseriding and no organic produce breakfast. Very disappointing. The booking description is misleading.

Unique Accomodation with really friendly staff. Only a short stay but made an impression on my family.

It is a stunning chateau and our room was spacious and comfortable.

Location in the Loire Valley. Service was very friendly and helpful. We were late from Paris and Chris was very helpful especially explaining the menu and the Chef waited around on a Sunday night to provide a five star meal. Superb cuisine. Highly recommended as a base for valley. Beautiful chateau in picturesque surroundings close to the Loire and the best Chateaus.

Excellent hosts and great restaurant for dinner and breakfast. There was a wedding on the Saturday and even though the restaurant was unavailable it would have been good to have a light meal / snack available for other guests

The staff were exremely delightful and helpful in a friendly and positive way. The atmosphere was made very trusting in that an 'honesty' system was run for the odd coffee or drink during the day.

Dinner was delicious, the menu was small but good. However I would have liked a change of menu, perhaps a daily change over three or four days or a week. It is, however, nice to have a surprise when you approach dinner. We particularly liked the surprise appetisers that appeared.

Lovely setting and the general ambiance was great: the chateau itself . was enchanting. The staff were helpful and friendly and even spoke excellent English.

Many small things! The room we had (Room 8) was approached via two flights of steep wooden stairs, clearly the servants' stairs in the chateau's heyday. The room itself was cobwebby, the grouting in the bathroom tiles was grubby, one of the child beds in the little room was covered in dead insects that had probably dropped from the skylight window above. The room lacked charm in its decoration and was gloomy: more lighting and mirrors required. There was no hairdryer, just a patch of missing tiles in the bathroom and when I asked the receptionist about it she looked surprised, said, " Oh, do you need one?" and produced one from a cupboard in the office! We noticed that other rooms were better, so beware of room 8l

Wonderful chateau with very welcoming hosts and staff made our stay a very memorable one, the food was superb both in the restaurant and at breakfast, the rooms are spacious and comfortable but not luxurious in fact just as you would expect a lived in chateau to be

Un superbe château. L'ambiance feutrée, le repas, le calme.

Dans la chambre que j'occupais, la salle de bain, située dans une tourelle, était sans porte. Un rideau occultant serait nécessaire pour masquer la lumière du jour au petit matin.
