The location can't be beat---right in the downtown area of Amboise and free municipal parking is available within a couple blocks. There's an unloading area right in front of the hotel for easy loading/unloading of suitcases. My family really liked the community room and all the newspapers and magazines that were available for guests' reading. We didn't purchase the breakfast, but it looked pretty good and plentiful. The internet link on the hotel computer didn't seem to work well for non- French websites (either couldn't get a link or link kept breaking down) and the wifi only worked if you were in the community room. Also, the wifi worked well on my ipod, but not on my Nook color. There was some traffic noise, but the windows were modern with double panes, which helped reduce the noise a lot (although that would have made the room hot and stuffy if the weather had been hotter---we were lucky to have pretty cool evenings when we were there, even though it was mid July). However, I must say it's unfair to complain about traffic noise. If you want to be downtown, you're going to have some traffic noise no matter where you stay.

The staff were very helpful. It was a convenient location to everything. The phone system is quite outdated. No electrical plugs in the room for recharging electronics.

Friendly owner. Free wifi. Free use of a stationary computer. Only a few minutes away from the chateau, restaurants, the river and other sights. Hot shower. All in all it was a cheap stay and you get what you are paying for. Small room (even if 3 people would sleep in there). No real garbage can in room. Bathroom needs new shower (one without a shower curtain). Window was towards the street so it was quite noisy even with closed blinds and curtain. The room is in the roof - we were there in winter so it was ok but I guess in summer it will get pretty hot up there and you can't really leave a window open. Door and walls thin so you can here people walking and talking outside the room.

It's a great location for shopping and dining in the heart of Amboise. And is very neat to the Chateau. The breakfast was a little sparse in selections and we had a bit of a language barrier but otherwise for the value it is a good hotel

Staff was very helpfull, one of them spoke English. Hotel is clean and nice looking. We had a room for 3 people. It wasn't roomy but sufficient, and it was clean. Excellent location. You can walk from the hotel to the Chateau de Amboise and Le Chateau du Clos Luce - Parc Leonardo da Vinci. Nice breakfast, too. I'd recommend staying there. Very good value for money. No complaints, but you should know that parking lot is 3-5 minutes walk from the hotel.

The location was amazing. It was within short walking distance of all the major attractions in town and some very good restaurants. The rooms were very comfy and cute. It was unclear when booking that breakfast would be an additional charge.

Value for the euro. Friendly and helpful French speaking staff. Excellent location. The breakfast room was very plain and without a view to outside. Would recommend going to nearby pattisserie.

Amboise is a beautiful town with Cahteau Amboise and Clos de Luce within walkinh distance of Hotel Chaptal. The hotel is family run and friendly, beds were a little hard but this was made up for by location, price and a substantial buffet breakfast.

For the price it is absolute "value for money". Staff was superlative and very nice and also it was overall very clean. Maybe the walls were a bit too thin and the noise was creeping through too easily but with some ear plugs the work is done. A trivial point was that because I like to keep informed even when travelling, the television did not have English channels (bbc, cnn).

Unpretentious and very good value for money. It is exactly suitable for the overnight traveller. The welcome from the Reception staff was very friendly, rooms were spotlessly clean and breakfast was very good. The booking website was very easy to use. Car parking was a little difficult but understandable because of the city centre location. An English language TV channel would have been appreciated.

Location, close to town centre & chateau No a/c- room was like an oven, so avoid in summer. Moldy smell in bathroom, shower access difficult, carpets dirty, wifi extremely slow & dysfunctional. Pas de clim, donc chambre comme un four! Forte odeur de moisi dans la salle de bain, acces a la douche difficile, wifi fonctionnait tres mal et trop lent pour vraiment en profiter.

The hotel is located close to the center of Amboise and about 15 min walking to Clos Lucé. Our room was fine, the shower a bit old but spotlessly clean. Breakfast is basic but ok for its price. It is an old building (like all buildings in the centre of Amboise), with all shortcomings one might expect. The most important one is the noisiness. Our upstairs neighbors kept us up for much of the night (doing what we suspect was nothing more than walking around the room and talking). Our room was next to the staircase, which creaked with every step each guest took up to their room. This would be -for us- a reason not to come back.

The hotel has a very good location in the town of Amboise and close to the castle and shoping/dining areas. The rate was reasonable and the room was very clean, but modest in amenities. The breakfast cost extra, but was very good for the modest price. Parking was not available on-site, but there were two nearby public parking areas.

Great location, staff were really friendly and facilities were good although rooms are small. We had bikes and there is a safe room within the hotel where they could be stored.
