Set among the vineyards of central France, this 16th-century chateau features a seasonal swimming pool in the 4-hectare park.
Score from 181 reviews Very good
Friendliness of the owner, the garden and animals, the breakfast. The size of the room and the garden view. Very warm(the room was well heated when we arrived)
15km away from the closest restaurant. (The local auberge was closed on the day we came) No tea/coffee in the room
Exceptionally nice building and grounds. Reasonably close to several interesting sites. SUPER restaurant nearby, Auberge de la Chateau Montpoupon, is absolutely worth the trip, as is the castle itself. Saturday night was BUSY. But, you would never know it, because the chateau is so big and guests tended to be quiet. Breakfast was typically "continental" and very nice. Hostess was superb!!
A little difficult to find, being out in the country and all. GPS couldn't home in on it exactly. Use the Chateau Montpoupon as a very close landmark.
It was fun staying in a chateau, beautiful grounds full of character
Having to park well away from house and walking back in the dark after dinner
Beautiful surroundings, a lot of different animals (including Rudy the pig, who can be found napping outside the château in front of the kitchen door), a really spacious bathroom. Excellent value.
No dining/drinking services except for breakfast.
I love this chateau. The architecture inside and out is beautiful as are the grounds. We had a superior double room which was a bit small for 2 people with luggage, but we made it work. The bathroom was roomy and modern. It was not luxurious but was simple, clean, attractive, and peaceful. The setting and price really made it worthwhile. This is a family-owned and run authentic chateau that has a relaxed, family feel. The young lady running reception was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is included in the price (bread, cereal, fruit, juice, tea, coffee), and there is a pool, and plenty of free parking. If you stay here, please leave time to explore the grounds, see the animals, and enjoy the interior like spending time in the different sitting rooms and on the terrace. The rooms have lovely antiques interspersed with modern amenities. And of course, Rudy the pig is the star of the whole place! The location is great for visiting other landmark chateaus in the area. Keep in mind if you will be arriving later in the evening, the chateau is out in the country, and it may be difficult to find restaurants still open in the area (plus restaurants generally stop seating after 9:15pm). We were running late so we picked up sandwiches on our way.
It's an impressive building and in a lovely rural setting
There is no on site bar or restaurant. Breakfast was very basic and by the time we got there they had started to run out of things such as orange juice, with no staff member visible at all
It was off the beaten track and the Chateau was very well cared for and maintained.
There was nobody to greet us in the office on arrival. The breakfast was quite expensive for what was provided. We would have preferred a buffet style pastries selection rather than the 1 croissant and 1 piece of baguette which was put out for us. However there was a small selection of fruit and cereals and natural yoghurt. No tea and coffee making facilities or water provided in the bedroom. It would have been nice if they had served dinner instead of having to travel to eat out. However they did provide a list of restaurants within a 20km radius.
Everything. The grounds are magnificent & the room facilities truly excellent. We enjoyed a superb breakfast. We enjoyed seeing the sanglier.
Nothing to dislike. However, there are no dining facilities at the chateau so we had to drive to a nearby town. We ate at a restaurant recommended & booked by the chateau and we had a sumptuous, good value meal
We stayed in the tree house which was great fun and better bathroom facilities than many hotels!
Safe woodland setting and the adventure of the woodland cabin Animals to watch and interact with, especially Rudi the Vietnamese Pot-bellied pig Good mattresses Dark curtains and deep quiet for a good sleep Historic environment Real feeling of safety for the children to roam, make spears and dens Great base to explore the chateaux - nearest at Chennonceaux about 20 mins drive away Swimming pool - brilliant after a chateau over-dose Early mornings has the sun came through the mist over the meadows - magical! Kind, polite staff. Unobtrusive but very helpful when we needed it.
Nothing really. Mentioned the strange mix of equipment (lots of pots and pans but nothing to stir with and only a bread knife to cut with) for the kitchenette to staff - probably things had walked to other chalets over the season. Since there are few restaurants really close, for families, worth having a few more utensils as you're probably going to make 'tea' at home with small children after a late afternoon swim
It's a real rennovated chateau with a beautiful garden and charm from 'old days'. The staff was very kind.
The room wasn't climitized, it wasn't so clean and not enough equipped.
The complete experience
No wifi !!
Hotel is beautiful, grounds are beautiful, nice pool, friendly staff, lovely quiet location but close to some great places (town of Loches, an amazing zoo, beautiful Chateaux etc)
Not being able to get a drink or any food in the Hotel so we'd have to eat out at lunch and have a picnic in the grounds at dinner which is fine but not ideal.
The room was very clean and comfortable. The public rooms are large and comfortably furnished. The staff were friendly and relaxed which gave a relaxed feel to the stay. We loved the pig on the doorstep!
Garden, Kindness of the receptionist.
Furniture worn out, Bathroom worn out, Wi-fi like not existed, Too many dogs around, kids being afraid to play around alone. Breakfast at very minimum.
Great Chateau, good location, breakfast fine
Alarm went off at 6am, no apology or offering of reduction, no bar, the most basic toiletries, not even bottled water, felt like sleeping in a boarding school, not worth the money for the facilities. Cheap tacky decor, no real furniture, Lino in bathroom didn't even reach the bath. Swimming pool like a municipal pool with wire fencing, looked dirty, deserted and unwelcoming
a) Surroundings very well maintain.
a) Internet, the speed was like didn't exist and the signal from my Orange was very weak. b) Requires refurbishments in furniture and things. c) Too many dogs, even though were calm, but my kids weren't comfortable to go around without me.
external grounds had lots of places to sit
Absolutely no facilities to get a coffee or snack. The only food available was the limited breakfast and the drinks were left in help yourself thermosks. So having driven for hours you had to get back in your car to get refreshments. Didnt see any staff at breakfast.
The area, the house , the people .
Great location and area, wonderful garden
The grounds were beautiful; kids loved the pool; breakfast was good.
Room requires some TLC. Mold in the washroom and musty smell in room.
Un posto magico!
Beautiful setting and calm with attention to detail in the decor and in the garden - warm welcome yet discrete
Great place to stay
