The Ducs de Joyeuse Castle is located in the heart of the Cathare region. This historically listed 16th century castle is located on extensive grounds on the banks of the Aude River. With a beautiful courtyard where one can dine in the summer months, the castle a very special place to stay. The hotel has a swimming pool and tennis court, and is a perfect base to combine a relaxing stay with good food; it is close to Cathare's many cathedrals and historic monuments. It was fascinating to stay in a castle. A friend suggested we stay there and are very glad we did. Quite the experience.

Very atmospheric, beds very comfortable Very disappointed with my meal, especially the choice of saumon mariné avec fenouil avec un crumble d'onion roux, which turned outto be smoked salmon from a packet with chopped chives and a soft cheese.

If you are a castle enthusiast or are looking for something a little different this is ok. The food and the service from the staff was extremely good. No lifts, so either travel light or be prepared to manouvre suit cases up and down spiral stair steps. The was no airconditioning (Junior suite) and small bathroom with shower over the bath.

Beautiful building and friendly staff. The long long staircase going up to the room in the tower lugging heavy bags and nobody offered to help with them. The bathroom extractor fan didn't work so room got very steamy after shower. Also, through no fault of the hotel, there was no airconditioning but you would have thought that the castle walls would have kept some of the heat out but instead acted as a kind of radiator resulting in a very bad and sweaty nights sleep.

The hotel is situated in a town and not in a park.The hotel staff was business like and not really caring. No help was provided for taking care of our bags and nobody took us to our room. The room was very small and extremely hot since there was no air conditioning despite the extreme summer heat. I barely slept. Considering the number of people using the pool, it was too small. Furthermore, not enough lounge chairs were available for every one. The breakfast was ok but I was not able to get a decent cup of tea since only tepid water was provided. I asked for some hot water but only got tepid water again. The gastronomic restaurant is good but really overpriced. I asked for a carafe of water, only got it at the end of my meal and it was warm. I had the feeling that if I had order some mineral water , I would have got it faster. Overall an overpriced stay for the service and amenities provided: a tourist trap.

Lovely position with river. Excellent restaurant and breakfast . Very small room with no aircon or minibar which you might expect for the price we paid. Very difficult staircase to negotiate with cases.No pool towels.Poor value for money therefore. Not impressed.

I loved staying in the top of the tower in the castle, with a four- poster bed. There was even a window like where Rapunzel let her hair down. I felt like I was in a Shakespear movie! It was nicely updated with all the comforts of a luxury hotel, though. The restaurant in the castle was fantastic too, and also made one feel like royalty. The hotel owners were very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this very romantic experience!

Grand public areas Very small rooms and quite ordinary. No enclosed public rooms open during the day so if wet no where to sit and relax. No comfort chairs in bedrooms.

Prácticamente todo. Muy bien el restaurant Cors de Joyeuse, muy buen servicio, muy buena comida y un vino excelente. El hecho de estar durmiendo en un castillo y su excelente ubicación en el corazón del País Cátaro. Las habitaciones que dan al río Aude le dan un aspecto romántico casi imposible de superar. Las escaleras, que es una de las quejas de la gente, son bastante suaves.

Ideal para visitar el país cátaro. "Chateau" de verdad. Suite monumental, amplia, cómoda. Atención recibida muy buena. El hotel debería disponer de servicio técnico para reparaciones urgentes.

El Chateau es el sueño que todos hemos tenido de niños, y darse el gustazo una vez adultos merece la pena... El restaurante no tiene el nivel del Chateau, aunque si es agradable y el servicio exquisito.
