Fantastic looking Chateau in a superb quiet setting, wonderful views and peaceful. The most awful, uncomfortable and small double bed you can imagine. Surely, the bed is the most important thing in any hotel. Evening meal nice, but so overpriced at 45 euros each. With a pre-dinner cocktail, a bottle of wine and coffees afterwards was a 140 euro's dinner for 2 !!!!! Free wifi advertised yet tried to charge me 5 euro's for connecting on my i-phone. We got a refund. Sorry, we were not impressed.

Very well presented chateau in excellent grounds, good location. A really charming place to stay, and one I highly recommend for couples looking for quiet. You will be pleased when you approach the chateau from the road, it's photogenic. Very near to Brantome which is a brilliant little town, traditional Dordogne look to it, good restaurants, friendly people etc. Relatively easy to find, with the hotel signed from the main road. One of those where you drive down a country lane and each time you think you've gone too far a sign appears. But be warned - the hotel is not where google maps thinks it is (are they ever?) Friendly staff, okay english, were helpful with directions and flexible with us checking out at an awkward time. Cleaner very amicable and did her job well. Generally a good atmosphere. We were upgraded to a superior room, was very large i.e. a suite, including enormous bathroom in a turret. Windows on both sides meant really light and airy, so room was very comfortable indeed, and views were excellent. Had a look at a standard room and was pretty large also. Note that rooms aren't majorly high-spec, old furniture and v small TV. No air con but wasn't a problem in decent weather. Good pool area separate from the main building, was very quiet for the duration of our stay. Lots of parking. No chavvy english scum. Shame that this hotel caters best for people looking for quiet, but lets children stay. We were woken each morning by a combination of early rising pre-teens above us and very creaky floors/thin walls. Restaurant isn't great - food so-so, and rather expensive. Note also standard booking doesn't include breakfast which at 20euros a head isn't cheap. Brantome is an easy drive away and has loads of restaurants, so not a problem. We were trying to escape from work, but it has to be said, WIFI in rooms would be useful (there is WIFI in the reception), Watch out for the seductive paths leading into woodland in the grounds - this is France remember, there is a lot of dog mess

If you had a rating higher than "Excellent", I would have given it to Chateau de la Cote. Everything about this place was perfect. I loved the setting, the castle, my room, the dining room, and the staff. I felt like a princess the entire time. It was easy to go into the surrounding small villages if I wanted to, but truthfully, this was a hard place to leave.

The outside of the Chateau was beautiful and the surrounding landscape was very picturisque. The outside of the Chateau had a lot more appeal than then inside. It is in desperate need of renovation and updating. The rooms and bathroom were shocking, especially since we booked a suite. We found it expensive in comparison to other accommodation in the area, for what they had to offer. It is in poor taste they charge you extra 5.00 euro for wifi which you can only get in the lounge area of the Chateau. All in all we were very dissapointed.

The external structure of the Chateau is very imposing. Having booked into a Chateau I was not impressed to be told to find my room outside." Outside " was a jumble of buildings and eventually I had to go to the desk again and ask for guidance. I was taken to a small house at the entrance of the estate and shown upstairs rooms. I was not impressed. This was only the first of several unhappy experiences during my stay.

“This is one of the most charming hotels we've stayed at--and we've stayed at a lot of them. The owner/hostess is the most hospitable person--perfect for her job. The price is very reasonable, providing great price/value quotient. The grounds are as charming as the rooms and the restaurant is very good. Breakfast while 15 euros is served in the lovely dining room and includes fruit, yogurt, crepes, cake, croissants, bread, orange juice, eggs and coffee--and it's served to you, no buffet here. Just great service at a lovely, lovely hotel.” Valdis, Pompano Beach, Fl |
