My wife and I stay at the Chateau en route to the UK from Basel. The food and service in the restaurant are excellent, and the accommodation in the Orangerie represents very good value.
Lovely chateau....authentic, and well managed
Lovely restaurant, quite pricey, but worthwhile. No alternative to eat.
A wonderful chateau in a great champagne setting.
The price of the wines in the restaurant.
The charme of the old building and its grounds Awesome room with plenty of character Friendliness and knowledge of staff Easy to find and good located for the cote des blancs
Room was a bit cold due to poor insulation Slightly shabby decor adds to the charme on one side but lets the style down on the other (this is one of the reasons it is a 3 * and not just higher)
Great, quiet location. Friendly, helpful staff. Large room, ice available at reception, historical venue.
!8 Euros for breakfast, which included cold runny scrambled eggs and greasy bacon, plus the usual breads, jams, etc. was not a great value. The cost of the restaurant was also excessive for the food offered. Thin walls, could hear the neighbor stomping around and talking loudly, and 65 steps up to the room.
Liked the location, the castle itself, the staff, the rooms. The restaurant dinner menu, 2 different was in our opinion, without originality and expensive, although we may be wrong restaurant was full
great service with a smile
Beautiful building. Charming, comfortable, clean room. Attentive and helpful staff. Lovely restaurant, delicious food. All very well-priced.
A great example of a converted Chateau into a great guesthouse. Fantastic dining room, could easily rate w/ Michelin. It may already, didn't check, just glad we found it. Went back 2nd night and enjoyed it even more.
The cheese selection at dinner was very good.
When we arrived we have thousands of flies in the room, they offered to show us another room but that also had flies in the room. So we left the room and they sprayed fly spray. We then went for dinner and my friend sat on a chair that had a wet cushion we had to change the cushion with a chair at an empty table as the staff didn't see it as a problem, tell that to my friend with a stain on her dress! Two of us had the chicken, it was like eating an old boot when we complained they asked if we wanted another main we said no as the other two in the party had finished. no refunds and no apologies.
Beautiful, well kept grounds. Peaceful. Food excellent.
It's an affordable stay at a chateau. The staff members were kind.
There was a lot of pretense of quality- the impressive setting, the careful attentiveness of countless staff, but I was continuously disappointed in the quality of the experience. The 'gastronomic' restaurant had a haute-cuisine appearance but served cafeteria-quality food that might have been cooked in a microwave and the glass of wine served with a great deal of flair (a bible of a wine menu) was almost vinegar. The breakfast was plentiful with lovely table settings, in a lovely space, but the food not particularly fresh or tasty. The room was musky with cheap and worn-out bedding. Nice concept, friendly staff, but the provisions need an overhaul.
Lovely chateau in a beautiful region and lovely restaurant. Friendly staff at the chateau and in the restaurant. Perfect place to stay during a champagne tasting weekend.
There was a leak in the moat so unfortunately there wasn't much water when we visited but everything else was great.
Everything! Lovely property; great location; wonderful town of Etoges - some Grand Cru wineries to visit; relaxing spa; great massage; our room was in the Castle - gorgeous; we were to stay one night but stayed 2; met some lovely fellow travelers; staff was fabulous and very helpful
Not one thing
Loved everything about this place. It was perfect. A real country estate with all conveniences.
Absolutely adored this chateau. Such friendliness, charm and history. I can't wait to return, and the quality of food in the restaurant was outstanding. They catered wonderfully for vegans and gluten free. Truly incredible stay. We can't wait to return!
The grounds of the Chateau are excellent, and it is a calm and quiet environment located in a small town. The rooms we had had character, were clean and comfortable, but the carpets and furnishings were a bit worn. There is one restaurant in the hotel, which is very fine dining with an excellent wine list. The restaurant is very expensive, however. Staff were professional and courteous. The staff, and particularly the sommelier, gave us some excellent advice as to which Champagne producers to visit.
The WiFi is very slow, though this may depend on the location of the room. Things were threadbare in places. There are no inexpensive, casual eating options in the Chateau, though there is a boulangerie a short walk down the street.
The ambiance - the views - the surrounds
This year for the first time we had a very poor experience with our food. Having alerted the staff to an allergy - the kitchen staff took no notice and served the food with the offending ingredient present. A replacement meal was provided but was undercooked and inedible and returned uneaten to the kitchen. And was served after my husband had virtually finished his food. We had to argue for the cost of my meal to be taken off the bill. No one thought it would have been a good idea to immediately offer this .... Is the hotel becoming too complacent about its success with returning customers like us - 8 years now ....
The room doesn't have air con but just a small window. Feel like a maid working n staying in the chateau
Second visit to the hotel over 12 months. The restaurant is beautiful and the food (and cheese board) fantastic. Staff friendly. Rooms are a little rustic in places - in need of a little attention but overall the location, romance and the food provide the perfect backdrop to a lovely stopover. No hesitation to go back.
Our room in the attic was nice but the bathroom could do with a little attention - nothing to spoil our stay. I'm sure the other rooms are lovely.
This is my second time to stay here, I loved it the first time and it did not disappoint this time either. The hotel is in a wonderful Château with lots of style very much in keeping with the character of the Château. If you are looking for a French Château experience then this is the place for you. The staff were welcoming, professional and very helpful in making reservations for me when needed. Breakfast is available in one of the grand salons and has both a hot and cold selection with champagne should you choose – very nice. I look forward to returning to the Champagne region sometime again and will stay in this special hotel again.
Beautiful Chateau, lovely location but a bit out of the way. Very peaceful and serene.
Staff at hotel and restaurant unfriendly; restaurant way overrated and expensive for what you get. Restaurant staff poor at best.
The staff were helpful and the rooms clean and comfortable. A unique place to stay. We enjoyed a relaxing sunny afternoon in the garden rather than going to visit elsewhere.
Dinner was inventive but rather over-elaborate and the set menu eventually felt like a bit of a marathon! Despite the welcome champagne, breakfast was disappointing given the standard of dining the previous evening. Dismayed to see evidence of rats on the outdoor 5-a-side football table.
We enjoyed our stay very much - and a great location.
While the building and structure are unique, it is especially the helpful staff that makes it special. They made our stay memorable. We highly recommend Chateau d'Etoge!
