Hotel Voltaire is perfectly situated in the cultural heart of Nantes on the green pedestrian route (a line painted on the ground which takes you round the main sites of the town). It is very welcoming with a wonderful staff ready to help in every way. It has an old world feel of grandeur mixed with modern amenities.
I would have liked water (and tissues) in the rooms and in the seating area downstairs, (there is no mini bar) and I have a dislike of disposable plastic cups in bathrooms.
Noisy through night with windows open to keep bedroom cool.
Friendly staff, good breakfast, comfortable and quiet room, excellent base for exploring the city.
Lack of cheap parking.
By far the best two stars hotel I have ever been. Actually this is a 4 star hotel and the owner who works also as a receptionist is incredible nice.
The decor was nice. The staff were accommodating and welcoming. It is good to know that once you get close there are signposts to bring you in. The breakfast was buffet only but nicely laid out. All in all a good package.
You have to park remotely and pay the full price. Some reduction would have been nice.
Just about everything.
The hotel looks great inside, close to the main places in the city centre, staff are friendly and price is reasonable (apart for the breakfast which is overpriced)
The room was a top floor room so the ceiling was extremely low on half of the room, the breakfast was expensive. The main issue was the air conditioning as we didn't want to use it because it was extremely noisy, which meant the room was very hot even with the windows open.
The location is excellent, parking in nearby multistorey is reasonable too. Near a good selection of bars and eateries and the city transport system is approx 100m. Staff couldnt be more helpful.
Family room was at top of hotel, very hot with windows open, like sleeping on a ferry with aircon on and windows shut. The use of the shower was a challenge in the eaves.
Quiet but central location. Park for free if it's Saturday after 7 or Sunday in streets close by.
While nothing is very close (the Opera is not too far), restaurants, the Chateau, and the Park are within walking distance. The train station and Les Machines require driving or a taxi.
Parking is a problem, but between 1900 and 0900 almost all street parking and open lots are free. We had a street-side room and traffic noises were bothersome.
Good location near tram stops and many restaurants. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom quite serviceable. Breakfast was very nice and continuously refreshed.
It was very hot during our visit, but there was no fan in the room. This would have been nice. The bathroom light was motion activated, and that was fine except when the light went out while taking a shower.
Quiet, clean, comfortable room and good Wi-Fi for emails.
French TV stations only but I was only there for one night, so it was not a big deal and I could practice my French a little.
Very comfortable, clean hotel a few minutes walk from the town centre. staff were very helpful and friendly and breakfast very good with some items that were locally sourced. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were very welcoming.Rooms were well decorated, of a good size and were nice and quiet.
Would take a travel kettle next time as no tea making facilities but not too much of a problem really as the other facilities are very good
Great location in the center of the city, very friendly and helpful staff. the rooms are clean and the bed is very comfortable.
the only thing that was missing in the room is a mini fridge.
Arrived post-Hellfest festival, the great unwashed after 5 days camping in blistering heat and dusty earth. We were little concerned this would be an issue at the hotel, but the staff didn't bat an eyelid. Receptionist was wonderfully warm and welcoming. Also very understanding about our abysmal grasp of the French language! Asked whether she spoke English, she replied 'a little', and then proceeded to fluenly talk us through our check-in! We were so very grateful for her effort and for making the check-in fuss-free, and hope that we expressed this adequately at the time. Room was clean and comfortable, as was the bathroom. First shower in 5 days felt AMAZING, and it was a good quality shower at that (powerful stream, water temp readily adjustable). Hotel itself is unassuming from the outside, but beautifully decorated inside. Very close to the shops and bars in town - although we didn't have much time to explore Nantes on this occasion, we would definitely return (and stay at Voltaire Opera again). Receptionist on check-out was just as friendly and helpful, and again spoke very good English (again putting our poor French to shame!) Was more than happy to book us a taxi, and allowed us to leave our bags under her watch in the reception area as we popped out for a quick breakfast in town before the flight home. In summary, our sort stay here was just what we needed after the deprivation from creature comforts at the festival. The gracious welcome and helpfulness of the staff made it go smoothly and stress-free. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Nantes.
Bathroom could be better ventilated and better lit. Only lighting was around the mirror over the sink, and was motion sensitive - kept going off when I was in the shower and out of range of the sensors! Room was a little on the small side (but I suppose that's what you get for the decent nightly rate in town). Issue was the large double bed in the centre of the room took up most all of the space, and made moving around it difficult (especially when we also had our large rucksacks of camping gear in there with us!) Room got very warm during the day (it was very hot out - around 27 / 28 degrees C) and didn't really cool off at night. No air con, just window / door that opened up onto the small balcony. These flapped when opened fully, so we needed to move the small table to prop them half-open. We did need to have them open all night to keep the room at a manageable temperature.
The receptionist was super nice! Ultra clean room Best price/quality relation Exellent room
Comfort of the beds was excellent!!! Second to none really. Nice bathroom too. Great location in Nantes. Extremely friendly staff
The shower, although nice and modern, didn't have a great deal of water pressure sadly!
The room was clean and comfortable. The staff on the front desk were very helpful and check in was made easy.
Lift was a bit small and cramped. We found it hard to fit all out luggage in at once so had to make a few trips and use the stairs. Bottled water was €4 to buy also which was far too expensive. The shower was not suitable for the taller parties in our group.
Central location helpful and pleasant staff.
The second room I stayed in was rather airless needed the window open which let in more noise in the morning
Location and staff brilliant.
Nothing we didn't like
Location, clean comfortable room, excellent staff, very good breakfast.
Parking a little inconvenient.
Great staff Good and very good location.
No bar , despite saying they had one. Only served soft drinks
Overall atmosphere, good breakfast
Very friendly & helpful English speaking reception staff. Great location and great value for money. Would stay again.
Room was small even by French standards, but very clean and great power shower.
Convenient, character, clean
