Hard to find
Self catering Number 8 bus into Aix en Provence very close. We walked into town centre takes about 25 minutes. Casino supermarket 5 mins away. Paul's bakery also just 5 mins away. Excellent for breakfast Free secure parking
No outside seating area, we were not expecting to be upstairs. Noise from nearby motorway No air conditioning, so had to leave window open and hear motorway noise. There was a fan provided.
nice location ,
I had no air condition
Localization; gardens; room size
the smell in the bathroom; cleaning the bathroom.
the property is beatiful with rooms and the garden .Kitchen has many things that you can needed.
in garden level room the toilett was stinky .May be because of the old building ???
kitchen and amenities meet basic needs
the whole building had heated up, there was no aircon and it was impossible to get fresh air into the mezzanine where the bed was, so there was very hot and stagnant air in the room
Very quite, safe place
Receipt closed too early

The Bastide itself is a beautiful building, with pretty grounds. It is convenient in/out of central Aix. We like its self-catering nature.
Roy René has swapped its conviviality for pure efficiency, and loses its friendliness and charm. We have been staying here over the past 13 yrs. My husband resided here for a year when we were moving to France and we continue to short-stay here when we return to France and our French house is let out. We and the children have good memories of this place, so we enjoy coming here for 1-2 days when our own house is not available. However, this trip was a real disappointment. The Saturday receptionist my husband faced was brusque, barked, rude and impatient with non-French speakers, and really got my husband upset (who never gets upset). He swore never to come back, though he'd lived here for some time. After check-in, she told him he had to decide whether or not we wanted to breakfast next day, upon check-in, without explaining why. When I arrived (later), I got us booked in for breakfast. Despite 13 yrs of coming here, we'd never done breakfast, and thought it'd be a nice treat, given the pictures. Next morning, we went to breakfast, at 8 euros per person (x4 = 32 euros). The new lady that next day was loud, reprimanded guests who'd mistakenly (or not) booked 2x for breakfast; she was really stressing out because it turned out breakfast could only seat 12 people (1st lady should have explained this nicely to my husband rather than barking), and she had 52 people coming in and out - her problem; she shouldn't have taken it out on the guests. Breakfast was, as my daughter said, like Holiday Inn Express's breakfast, but without the eggs or meats. Cheap - croissants were pulled out of a bag purchased at a supermarket - we actually all the same things in our fridge and should have just eaten in our room; Bastide is a beautiful building - it deserves a breakfast with real croissants; hotel should just set up a contract with a local baker and get authentic baked goods.
The TV is too small.....
Great facility. Looks good. I had read about the music in previous reviews & thought it was pure whinging but unless you like 80s covers with substandard band keep away.
Had to shut window due to lousy band, no airflow as stinking hot. Dont bother. Could be great.
ATMOSPHERE SETTING LOCATION FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD
Nothing of importance
Good location for all major roads for touring.
By photos on bookings.com thought we were booking downstairs room with front garden - not so given upstairs room no sitting out space. Had to pay extra for upgrade. Room very basic, bed uncomfortable could do a lot more with this accomodation. A pool would be good too.
Lovely surroundings. Gardens well taken care of. Comfortable rooms with everything one could want. I will certainly stay here again....the nicest place I have stayed in Aix.
The staircase to the first floor rooms was very noisy when luggage was carried down early in the morning.
Clean. Stunning exterior. Just like a French provincial maison! Free wifi. Plenty of parking.
The perfume used when cleaning gave us a headache. Upper sleeping area very hot even with fan.
The atmosphere of the place. Very intimate and warm. Makes you feel you are in a place that is more than a hotel. it s a safe heaven. Good parking. Pets allowed. Location next to the highway.
some rooms need to be refreshed more often if they are not used.. windows should be opened.
Localized conveniently for the A8 Higway. very nice greenery and fountains outside the building
Rooms - looking dirty, old, weared out, everything needs renovation. not soundproof at all outside - nice, good looking old building- rooms inside - very disappointing, hostel-like, outdated.
We loved our stay at La Bastide de Roy....but what really made it for us was the extreme helpfulness and friendliness of the owner/manager...Flo. Nothing was too much bother or trouble for him and he made everything so easy...particularly things to do and how to get there. Flo just has a real passion for his work and it shows. I strongly recommend it.
The only issue I had...and it is very minor...is that there were two single beds pushed together any made up as single beds.....not particularly comfortable and also the bed was very hard. While a hard bed might suit some people I found it uncomfortable. These two things were really minor in the big scheme of things.
What a pleasure to arrive at the Bastide after a long day's walking and relax on the patio in front of our studio. We utterly enjoyed our stay.
Pleasant surprise. Like an oasis. Gorgeous old building with beautiful grounds. Restful, quiet and nice.
Not near anything and not in great area although hotel all walled in like a resort. Internet is like one big secret, have to get codes all the time and nothing seems to work.
It's a very nice old building with beautiful park next to it.
The breakfast was very poor comparing to the restaurants. Also the staff was quite lazy and kitchen was not very clean.
Reception hours could be longer. 24 hours would be great, but just a bit longer would be better than the current short hours.
Location, staff, parking
Smell of mildey, cigarettes; cleanliness of carpet; old facility
I enjoyed staying at a place that had so much history (from the 17th? century.) I liked having a loft upstairs for my daughters to sleep. The place had character in the architecture w the staircase and shutter window-so European. Florant was very kind and helpful with our many needs for directions and suggestions. I'd strongly suggest requesting directions via email before you look for this on your own. [It sits back on the private street with a wall around the place so it isn't easily spotted;-look for a buzzer to get inside the gated lot.] It was nice to have our own patio with table and chairs to relax in the evening or morning. Nice private and gated parking for the establishment.
We arrived in the country on Ascension Thursday and had no idea that stores (including grocery stores) would be shut down. Unfortunately, our two days in Aix were difficult because we kept getting lost in the city of Aix, yet it was too long of a walk to get to the town. Perhaps if I knew there was a bus just down the road that would have taken us into town, I would have taken it instead of driving our car. It is in a remote area of the city, but that can be very good. If I were to update the rooms, I'd update the bedspreads.
