Really like to style of this hotel. Dining room where we had a great breakfast was superb. We only had a stopover of one night but would recommend it's location toes toehold town.
No taxis to meet to Ferry which came in just before midnight.
Nice room with view of the ocean. Heating system worked well. Clean and good service.
Only one computer available for guests at the hotel reception desk.
Excellant location for all St Malo has to offer. Staff were friendly and helpful, room was clean, quiet and comfortable.
No coffee/tea facilities in the room. My guess is this is a French thing so can't complain, when in Rome as they say.
location style staff room
decor getting a little tired
There was no warning that the Route de Rhum fleet was in St Malo - we are sailers ourselves, we wanted a couple of quietish days away from kids etc and was instead innundated with thousands of french everywhere. The hotel was hosting a corporate company and was not really interested in tourists!
Nice old fashioned hotel great location staff spoke English . Big rooms and close to port
The shower didn't work very well, bathroom needed an update
fab location within city walls, stayed several times and never disappointed. staff are wonderful and helpful
no tea & coffee in room but thats the same as most french hotels. not a complaint, just would be a nice touch
Location, views (superior room), general ambience, friendliness of staff.
Wifi slow and interupted. breakfast expensive
room 304, sea views
wifi wasn't good, very unreliable, used our own
we always stay in Hotel De France et Chateaubriand - its just perfect :)))
Lack of atmosphere and life
The location was excellent and the staff and room were pleasant.
The wifi was dreadful. Really no access in the bedroom, and even in the lobby it was very poor. The bread, coffee, and croissants at breakfast were not great (although the orange juice was excellent)
Real french feel of hotel
Location and very helpful staff. rooms clean and quiet
The reception staff were wonderful, helpful, polite, pleasant and more... The room was really nice and the bathhroom amazing, the decor charming and the overall cleanliness the best we have seen, and that includes top hotels in London, overall 10 out of 10.
I couldnt say that there was anything, really.
Dated, needs a refurb in all areas, and especially in the dining/breakfast room, as there is much tatty decor and many cracks in the plaster with lots of peeling paint to be admired !!
Central location yet still very quiet
Staff were disinterested. We're asked if we wanted an upgrade for euro20 per night to which we agreed. Turned out to be a big room but very old fashioned with an en suite - not quite what we we're expecting for the price we paid for a superior room plus upgrade.
views over city walls out to sea were lovely central location to all the street artists and activity at weekends
service slow at front café room a bit dated but very modern bathroom
Family party in wonderful top of hotel restaurant was terrific. Thank you to staff who made it possible.
Superb location for access to beach and walking around the walls and through the old city. Sea view was wonderful.
Despite modernisation of the bedrooms the hotel still manages to maintain its character. I always imagine Hurcule Poirot sitting in the conservatory! The hotel is in a lively area but well positioned to avoid a lot of noise at night.
Found the bathroom a little small as a wet room. However I suspect each bathroom is designed differently.
The friendly staff and super location.
Nothing, the stay was perfect.
On top of the hotel a new restaurant, Le 5, has been erected with panoramic views of the old city. The food was quite excellent and the fixed-price offering very good value. The location of the hotel couldn't be bettered in the old part of town; probably worth paying more to ensure a sea view from the upper floors as from the first floor rooms you are below the level of the top of the city wall ramparts and your view may just be other visitors looking down on you! The square outside is where the action is and is crowded with visitors, restaurants, creperies and attractions. Lively but not noisy. Within the Hotel de Ville opposite is the historical museum: history seems to stop about 1930 so if you want to know what happened to St Malo during WW2 you need to visit the memorial museum in St Servan nearby.
After trying the main restaurant for breakfast once, I went out of the hotel to little cafes nearby. Note for men: if you have a shaving mirror take it with you; the lighting and position of the bathroom mirror is not fit for purpose.
