We would strongly recommend a stay at the Hôtel La Fontaine. It is a hotel without pretensions, run by a couple who keep it spotlessly clean and go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The location is ideal being in quite street in the centre of Caen. We travel a lot and in our opinion, the Hôtel La Fontaine offers the best value for money we have experienced in Europe in recent years.

The management couple were very pleasant and made our stay a very enjoyable one. They answered our questions and took care of our needs as quickly as they could. It was neat and clean and near all the things that we needed it to be near.

Innkeepers could not have been nicer - very accomodating. Very service oriented. Anything I needed, they provided. Innkeeper helped me carry my bags up the stairs - no elevator. Hotel is somewhat difficult to locate from train station - directions: Take either tram A or B from train station, ride 4 stops to St Pierre. Get off and walk across the street (Rue De Berniers). You will see bus shelters and McDonalds. Walk past McDonalds and veer left. Walk down small street filled with shops, turn left on Rue La Fontaine. It is just over halfway down on the right. There are TONS of shops and so many wak-about food places to eat. Many of the buses stop at the bus stop about 2 minutes away on Rue De Berniers. The room matches the pictures online. All somewhat basic but very comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend Hotel La Fontaine for a clean comfortable, reasonably priced hotel. Plumbing was somewhat noisy but that should be expected with the age of the building. Other than that, everything was fine and I was definitely well cared for!

For a double room, it was cheap and in a great location. Close to the Chateau, Office of Tourism and major bus and tram lines. There is free wifi which is always great, and the staff are very friendly.

Helpful staff, clean hotel, paid parking on the same street and underground parking in 3 minutes walk. Noisy toilet separated from the room with weak fold doors. So, between the closed doors you can see your partner laying in the bed. Soft bed mattress very uncomfortable in case of back aches. Screaming colors in design. No elevator.

The price is attracting. Low price can indicate low quality though... I would say the hotel a renewed old house of the owner couple. The room is tiny and there was a nail on the window handle... The tv with a small screen is often "no signal". The bathroom is even worse: toillet is old and fragile (everytime after we use it, we have to repair sth); the water doesn't go down through the sink and the little shower room so we have to stop the water every other minite to ensure no overflow when taking the shower. What's better? No hot water in the winter!!!!

Pleasant staff, nice breakfast. We had booked a quadruple room but were changed to two double rooms which actually was better for us. Too many stairs for some people to manage to get to rooms.

An inviting, well-run family hotel, beautifully clean, offering excellent value. The room was quite small, but had everything necessary for a stay of a few days. I would happily recommend it, and would stay there again.

The young man at the front desk was polite and was trying to make the best of the situation. His boss however was another story. The lady at the front desk (manager with blond hair) was very snippy and rude. Also she gave me change in coins (many pennies). She was extremely unprofessional. I regret staying at this hotel because of her. I am a good customer and was sincerely shocked by her behavior.

We were very pleased with the hotel - the staff were welcoming and obliging, and our family room was in fact two rooms with a connecting door - with older children, this worked out extremely well for us. The rooms were simply furnished, but clean, with showers that worked very well, and we felt the breakfast was good value by comparison with what would have been available at nearby cafes. There was not much view from the room, but you can't expect this from a city centre hotel, and the location was close to restaurants and shops. All in all, excellent value, and we preferred being in a hotel that had a French feel to it rather than in a branch of a large international hotel chain. Car parking had to be in the street, which meant a cost in the day-time. There was a noisy generator outside the room, but this was not a great problem - it always stopped around 10.00 at night.

Excellent location. Right in the centre of town. Bathroom not ventilated at all. After flushing the toilet, a foul smell permeates throughout the bathroom and room. Shower cubicle very small. Shower curtain does not prevent water from shower wetting the bathroom floor. Room not well lit. The common corridor smells of cooked food.

There is a young couple who have only owned the hotel for 4 months. They are very nice and helpful. We enjoyed our stay with them. It is not luxurious, but comfortable and in a good location for seeing the city. The color scheme of the room was a bit much but hopefully in time they will redecorate. I would recommend this hotel.

The staff were very friendly and helped us solve many problems including making an appointment with a technician to fix our laptop computer. The position of the hotel was superb with shopping centres around the corner, the castle and cathedral a block away and numerous cafes and restaurants close by.

The staff is incredibly friendly, and very eager to help in any way they can. This hotel, while somewhat dated, is in a great location and is a tremendous value. No air conditioning - only a big deal during the summer months.
