Hotel De La Paix  

Room was spotless. Excellent location for sightseeing and shopping. Walking distance to all the main sights and shops including Euralille. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Very quiet room.

Breakfast is poor value and the room didn't have tea/coffee making facilities.

Traditional older style city centre hotel close to all facilities.

Although the room was clean and comfortable, our initial experience was a bad smell of stale nicotine (probably common in any older style french hotel) and odor from the drains. Drain smell disappeared after 24 hours. However we bought strong air freshener on day 1, and room was much sweeter when we ended our 3 night visit. As it is city centre, be prepared for noise of street cleaners at 7am, if room in the front.

What's there not to like?

The best thing about hotel de la paix is the central location, you can walk anywhere from there, it is across thr street from Carlton hotel which is much more expensive. There is parking almost next door (Tanneurs), helpfully staff, clean hotel, nice breakfast, it has everything you need for a weekend trip (and longer). We would definitely stay there again should we travel to Lille again. All in all hotel de la paix provides the so important balance price-location-quality. Definitely recommended

Breakfast a little bit expensive, but we bought it because it's always nice to come down and have breakfast in the morning. Also, the lady that serves the trays with breakfast is really sweet.

The location was fantastic, close to the train station and excellent for accessing shops and the christmas market. The staff were friendly and happy to help.

This was a very comfortable hotel located close to the railway stations. Rooms were small but comfortable- good showers and an enjoyable breakfast. We would be happy to return to your hotel.

no air con-had to open window allowed mosquitoes in = bites + street was very very noisy until 2-3 am. rooms at front certainly require air con.

Quite a traditional little hotel, with classically French decor and (from my experience) mostly French guests. The room was comfortable and clean, the staff friendly and the whole hotel has a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere - quite a feat for the centre of the city.

The lack of air-conditioning would definitely be a problem in summer (but then, retrofitting air-conditioning would also spoil the look of the place) and, apart from the reception staff, there is not a lot of provision for the non-French speaker.

All the essentials and no unncessary extras so very good value for money
