After our horror at seeing the room we were given we decided to move out and find somewhere that didn't make you itch just by standing there. We stayed one night and the following morning spoke to a woman at reception (the owner?) we told her of our grievances - dirty bedlinen, no working fan, rubbish thrown into the corner of the bathroom, vile smell of stale smoke in all the furnishings, filthy carpet etc... We were unable to find another room until the following night and so when we returned to our room that evening there had been some attempt to clean the place up and give us unstained pillow cases. Not enough to make us change our mind! The location is great. On arrived at around 7.30 P.M. there was no one in reception. We called from a phone on the desk which rang for a long time before being answered. Eventually (about 10 minutes later) a rather surly man arrived and checked us in. We lugged our bags unassisted up a very narrow stairway to enter a tiny room which stank of stale smoke. The bathroom door would not close, there was no toilet paper and there was a bit of plastic, obviously ripped from the bottom of the door thrown under the basin. The bedroom carpet was matted and stained, the random furniture was tired and not clean. The pillow cases were distictly nasty, one pale blue with bleached marks over it, the other, which was probably supposed to be white, was an unsavoury oronge/brown colour. The curtains were hanging off the rail . Although the location and the view from the window was lovely, there was no way we could stay in such squalour.

Hotel was old fashined, unkempt, decrepit & the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. I would not recommend anyone to stay there. Bed linen minimal - one bolster between us wrapped in the top edge of the bottom sheet, no pillow cases, even under pillow cases. And pillows were dirty & old. We had to put towels over it to sleep as it was so bed. Bathroom tiling was dirty & shoddy, bathroom v old & low quality. No lounge. We ordered breakfast, which they forgot to get us - we were glad by then to go out to eat! No help to get luggage upstairs. Don't know how they got even 2 stars.

The location of this hotel is just fabulous - right in the 'happening' heart of Annecy and with gorgeous views of the canal, restaurants, cafes and Lake Annecy a few minutes walk away. We could sit in our room at one of the 2 picture windows and enjoy the streetscape. We loved every minute of our stay. The staff were welcoming, charming and helpful with everything we asked of them. If we were in Annecy again, we would definitely come back and stay. Great value for money. There was no lift and our accommodation was on the 3rd floor. So that proved a challenge but the kind hotelier carried our bags up for us. We were very grateful to him for that. There was one other issue which we reported and the staff were prompt in attending to it. We think that this may have had to do with the age of the hotel -or it may have been confined to the room we had. Whichever, the staff made every attempt to deal with it.

It was in the heart of Annecy, in front of the "Palace on the Island". The desk man was a wonderful person. The walls are too wide, so, there is no internet because it is wireless.

Annecy old town is like a little venice and Hotel de Savoie has an ideal location where the canals meet the lake. It is a charming, slightly rumpled place with creaky stairs and old fashioned rooms. I have known the hotel for years and its still nice to come back to. Not posh in any way, but comfortable and friendly with all you need. Check out the layout before arriving by car because you cant drive up to the front of the hotel. The parking at Hotel de Ville opposite works fine once you have dumped your bags off. Not a dislkie as such, but I suggest to check out the layout before arriving by car because you cant drive up to the front of the hotel any more. You need to stop nearby, check in and drop off the bags and its not so easy to find somewhere to pause. The parking at Hotel de Ville opposite works fine once you have dumped your bags off.

The duty manager was courteous. The location was good. The foyer was dirty and scruffy. The corridors narrow and dingy. No lift to the third floor, thus impossible for anyone with disabilities. Our room was dirty, smelt disgustingly of damp, the shower/wc was mouldy and minuscule. There was no obvious means of escape in case of fire. We left the hotel without spending a night there and moved into something clean and safe.We were appalled by this hotel, the worst we have ever booked into. It is a disgrace that it is listed as a two star: no comparison with a two star in Beaune we stayed in some days earlier. We did not ask for a refund for the first night, but were told that we should apply to you for a refund for the second night. A dreadful experience. Comments on refund please.

Right in the center of the old city, we could watch the main square below that was full of activity. If it got noisy, we closed the windows.

The hotel has a great location, right on the canal and 100 metres away from lake Annecy. It is close to everything. I chose a room with a view over the canalm which was nice, but would be difficult to sleep in summer if you have to close windows due to noise from surrounding restaurants. Staff very friendly. Internet connection is not available in all rooms. Even when I went to the lobby, connection was bad and I gave up. The management should consider investing in a $50 router to install in the staircase to get access to internet to all rooms. Bathrooms are very small. Showers are inaccessible for xl-size people.

Our room was in the attic, very small with sloped ceilings but nevertheless we had a short but comfortable stay. The location was ideal & the room was as expected for the price. We had expected flights of stairs but they are steep & narrow & I think anyone with fitness issues may find access a problem. The internet was barely usable even in the dining room.

The location is excellent in the heart of the city in front of the famous Palais d'Iis. Some receptionist is very helpful and nice. Recommend for students and backpackers. Not comfortable for elder people because no elevator, no anti-slippery in the bath tub, no hand rail for elder people to get out of bathtub. Diffucult to load and unload luggages because the hotel is situated in walking street.

We stayed in the 3-5 person suite for 2 nights. We loved the balcony overlooking the canal and historic Annecy. Accommodation was unique, clean and one of a kind, with a few quirky features and many endearing ones. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, adding not only to our enjoyment of the hotel but also to our whole visit. One recommendation would be to plant wonderful flowers in the balcony flower boxes to make the balcony even more appealing. The room was very good value for money, the location was excellent, and we would definitely stay there again! Thanks, Linda Hanneman Hughes

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the last fifteen years. It has always been antiquated and 'rustic', but the one thing it has in its favour is the location. Right in the centre. On this visit the staff got our booking wrong, giving us a totally unsatisfacory room with double bed instead of twin beds. They were unhelpful and reluctant to move us. The room was like a broom cupboard and dirty. The breakfast was poor, even by French standards. They insisted we pay the bill in cash, claiming the machine was broken, despite seeing other guests pay with credit cards. I frequently visit Annecy but will never stay at this dump again. A bench in the nearby park would be more inviting.

Was only there for 1 night. Have stay there many times in the past , but have to say will not be going back as their standards have drop . The hotel was as clean as in the past, rooms to small, the staff not very helpful and then when I went leave and pay my bill , no credit card reader working to pay via Visa/Mastercard.

I really like how close it was to the center of town. My room had a balcony that looked right over the river and it was gorgeous! The staff was extremely friendly and I felt really safe being there the entire time. We also were able to leave our backpacks in the lobby with the concierge after we checked out so we didn't have to carry them around with us all day long. I definitely would come back.
