The owners were wonderful people and made us most welcome. We loved the opportunity to speak our limited French and had a great time and a memorable evening meal and breakfast.
Just had two weeks travelling around France and this was quite the best place we stayed. Great hosts, great food, including the best dessert I've had in a very long time, and a wonderfully comfortable bed. Head and shoulders above some of the pricier corporate hotel chains we sampled. Definitely go again.
The dinner was exceptionally good, varied and excellent value, the best meal we had all week. The welcome was also very good, though the hosts only 'opened' at 5.45pm. The house was old and extremely interesting, more like an antique store. WiFi was easily accessed and fast. In all respects the value for money was fair.
Every shelf and surface was covered with antiques and mementos. Unless that excites the visitor it may be classed as clutter. No doors could be locked. Breakfast was good but rather sparse. The whole house was in need of updating, the bathroom facilities were only just adequate. The noise from the road could be a problem. The hosts were charming but spoke no English.
Closeness to Solignac and near lovely countryside. Room was beautiful and in keeping with the period and the ensuite bathroom was decadent. Breakfast was charming with home-made jams, juices and cakes. Owners were very friendly and helpful.
Comfortable stay in an old country house. Good sized room. Lovely rural location near the river. Charming friendly hosts who speak only French, so my partner made fullest use of his high school french. Also got by with online translator with good results. I liked our hosts so much that I invited them to visit us in Australia, and I don't speak any French! :-)
Be sure to ring the bell at the gate to gain entrance. We weren't sure if we were at the right location. Breakfast was basic continental style, but did include some home baked cake.
If you are looking for a typical French experience then this is the place. Monsieur and Madame Rouffy (non English speakers)run a B&B which captures a time gone by in a wonderful rural location -simply captivating. Above all book the evening meal, We were a group of four and we ate with a French couple and the owners-it was dinner party standard-sublime French cuisine! The rooms were simple but so different for today's traveller. A real find. We all loved it.
Very friendly couple who spoke no English so I was forced to speak French which was good. An amazing 17th Century house full of French ornaments and furniture. Once we got used to having the evening meal with the husband while the wife did the cooking it was an experience not to be forgotten.
No external lights so difficult to locate at night. They need to get the sign that they have fixed on the outside.
