The location was quiet and the room we stayed in looked out over the Hotel Du Chateau grounds which was nice. The kitchen was well equipped and the white goods were brand new and clean. Located well for the centre of La Rochelle, the main ring road and the airport (although you would need a car). Relaxing location and little road noise/airport noise while we were there. We paid 65 Euro per night and the hotel said this was a special room rate (the rate was normally 90 Euro). As this was the case we did not get maid service, clean bed linen or towels or extra toilet tissue for the duration of our 4 day stay - extra towels were 5 Euros for 2. If you are planning a stay would recommend you take dishwasher tablets and kitchen towels if you are going to use the kitchen.

The reception staff were friendly and helpful. I didn't like - cigarette holes in the bed linen, the prison-block decor, the total absence of any information in the room (even a number to call for reception), tatty furniture, poor sound proofing, hotel pool not well heated, horrible location beyond the commercial zone and not central for La Rochelle. It felt like a run-down budget hotel, totally lacking in atmosphere.

Modern complex with swimming pool and other top class facilities, easy access from the motoway and good onward access to La Rochelle and Ile de Re, peaceful yet busy also very good underground parking !! only one gripe...The breakfast is a very good buffet but not really worth 10.00 euros per person per day !!

We had a lovely stay at Domaine Du Chateau; it was a great mix of being out in the country, while La Rochelle centre was vey close. The staff here were very friendly & helpful & the apartment was spotlessly cleaned. We booked a 6 person apartment (4 guests - 2 adults & 2 small children) & were delighted with the 2 separate bedrooms (not obvious to me when booking & much better than staying in a hotel). Despite earlier reviews, we found the journey into La Rochelle (beautiful town) centre to be only up to 10 mins drive (outside rush hour). Other good points: supermarket near by, the pool & playground were good, aircon, bath for small children, very close to airport.

The place didn't appeal to us, over all it was well kept though, and despite our issues the staff were helpful We booked a no smoking room but when we arrived we found no such option was available so instead of staying seven nights we left after one. The place lacked character, the courtyard was the closest to a prison that I have ever experienced.

Location was very good, close to La Rochelle and Ile de Re. Room was a good size for what we needed. Pool area and playground was nice for kids. Easy access. There were no dish towels in our room, and no boxes of kleenex. Could not leave windows and patio doors open as smokers next door were smoking on their balcony and their fumes came into our room. Towels were not replaced. It would be nice to have a kettle to make tea or instant coffee. Beds were terrible! It was like sleeping on wood. Sofa was stained and looked dirty. Not very appealing.

No oven in appartments to cook. Microwave at a dangerous height for use. Needs more leisure facilities E.G. tennis, crazy golf/putting etc Between the blocks of appartments the complex looks more like a jail, needs grass and plants. The only place bicycles could be kept safe was on the balcony, luckily we were on the ground floor otherwise I don't know what we wpould have done with 4 bicycles to keep safe.

The "Hotel" is not a Hotel but more like a cheap holiday appartment. The cleanliness of the room and the bedding was far from acceptable. Limited service out of hours

The stay at the hotel was disappointing. We booked a 4 people apartment which is actually a two person studio (one bedroom) with a sleeping couch. Terrace furniture was only for two people just like the towels. We stayed three nights. Towels and room were not cleaned once. In fact it seems for towels you will have to pay extra and pick them up yourself at the reception.

The room was disgustingly dirty on arrival and was not cleaned despite request. There was even bird poop on the door step to the room. Lots of dirt on the floor, old food left in fridge, dirty balcony. Outside the room there were cigarette butts everywhere and the place was generally in bad repair despite being reasonably new. The 'secure' underground parking gate did not shut so was not secure. Oh and finally the internet service didnt work! As a place to stay it couldnt be much worse, you would be better off in a tent!

The food at the Restaurant was very nice, probably the best food i had on the whole trip to France. The room was spacious. The pool was nice too. There are nice cycle paths nearby. Got free upgrade which was nice. Dishwasher nice although washing mashine would be more usefull. One or two of the staff were abrupt and unhelpful. Got the feeling if we were french we would have had better service. Would be very usefull if there were some basic necessities (sugar, tea, bread, cigarettes) available to buy somewhere onsite, or a local map of where these things can be obtained. The only maps available were of la rochelle which did not extend to the area of the hotel. Not many bikes available for hire. had to walk all the way to the bridge to Ile de Re to hire a bike. A shuttle service to downtown or local bus information would be extremely helpfull. No english channels on tv. dvd availability would be helpful in this situation if no english channels can be obtained. No english tourist material available either. I would recommend the hotel for the price, but would give plenty of advice about the above at the time. Airconditioning did not work and was not fixed. We were advised it wasn't working anywhere, which was untrue as we found it working in the gym.
