This quirky charming family-run hotel is well-situated for a range of activities. Across the road at the back you have the Thermal baths where there are treatments, hammam and sauna, healing waters, indoor and outdoor pools. There are terrific mountain walks from the village itself, skiing in season, and the setting of high mountains, cascades, and clean air is remarkable.
The Lion d'Or is welcoming, interestingly decorated with antiques and local items, scrupulously clean, has good beds, and most of the delicious breakfast cakes and pastries are cooked by Thomas's mother from family recipes.
This is combined with decent wi-fi, a pleasant lounge/bar area, and spacious comfortable rooms.
We did not eat at the hotel, but only because time did not allow, as good cooking is clearly a family strength!
Our hosts were helpful, the town is interesting to stroll around, the local bars and cafes were friendly and welcoming. We visited out of season, so perhaos when full of skiers it has a different feel to it, but we greatly enjoyed our stay.
