Proximity to Saint-Emilion, which is a prime reason for staying at le Grand Barail

Interior decor of rooms is too dark, it is lugubrious and clashes with the beauty of the dining room

Location fantastic, Staff very attentive, Beds being turned down every night; a lovely touch.

Just a wee niggle the gym at the spa didn't have a running machine, and also didn't have any light free weights for resistance training,

(1) Cleanliness and facilities were great. (2) Bed was very comfortable.

(1) Wifi/internet connectivity was very poor. (2) Macaroons / biscuits were awful. (3) Room rate was a bit pricey for hotel's remote location.

The hotel staff was especially friendly. The hotel grounds were beautiful, and the setting is a chateaux close to the town. It is quite beautiful !

The chateaux is so beautiful and grand looking, so I was somewhat disappointed in the reception area looking very much like a hotel. However this did not take away from their service.

Great experience! Very friendly stuff; rooms are great, stylish, comfortable and very clean. Everything seems to be recently renovated but with taste. Location is very convenient, just 2-3 min drive from St Emilion.

Far too expensive for what it offers, unfriendly and unprofessional staff

Did not have a small chateau feel eventhough it is small. It feels more like a big hotel.

Magnificent hotel... Chateau..... Castle like setting. Spectacular views. Food was gourmet, premier dining experience. Conveniently located near St Emillion which is a magnificent little town to explore, shop, and dine. Wines in this area are fabulous!

Fabulous location inside the vineyards. Freindly and relaxed staff, not stuffy like some luxury hotels. Excellent food. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite, for our 1 night stay, which was a two-storey, lovely room.

Beautiful setting and glamorous facility for our 3 night stay..

Poor menu. Selection did not change over 3 days and options on menu were resonably limited. You need to eat out. Sign posting and directions were very confusing and difficult.

Beautiful grounds, food was very good, close to St Emilion. Peaceful setting.

Served bad 3 day old red wine in the bar. Your bar tender needs to check the nose off the wine before serving it. Add the cost of the breakfast to the room price.

Quiet and nice place

The room at night got very hot and the thermostat didn't work to cool it down do it was hard to sleep at night.

Actually, for us, it was the service. We had been lost and were late arriving. The attention we received was unusually attentive. The restaurant was quiet and romantic, and the food was delicious. Our room was quiet, and we were able to sleep well. Our stay was perfect!

It was difficult to find. It would help to have directions available, since there is no street address, thus our navigation system could not be used:

Staff at Grand Barrail is very friendly and helpful, having forgotten my wine and souvernirs at the hotel reception after checking out, they called me straight away. Awesome menu, the 5 course evening meal was fantastic and very good value. Being allergic to mussels, I was offered a separate dish without having to ask.

The Chateau is simply divine and exceeded my expectations in presentation. The rooms were large and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. Restaurant at the Hotel was first-class. Service from all staff members was excellent (from the front desk to restaurant staff); friendly and eager to assist. They appeared very organised.

The only fault that we experienced was that one night there was a tour bus on a stay-over which appeared to place the Chateau at full capacity. The next day we didn't have any hot water for showers in the morning - around 2 hours.

The location was perfect especially the setting among the vineyards. The reception and help offered was impressive. The room was extremely comfortable spacious and ber clean.

Did not eat at hotel so cannot comment on the restaurant. Also did not use spa facilities but from whet I saw and read I would imagine it would be top class.

This is a very nice and beautiful hotel with a lot of potential. The restaurant is excellent, the environment is great, and the spa & pool very nice.

Unfortunately, the service level is way below what we expected from this very expensive hotel. In general this is a nice hotel with good facilities and high potential but we were very disappointed with the service level. In addition, the internet connection must be one of the slowest we have ever encountered - unusable. The location is ok but quite far from Saint Emilion. And the bar is closed between 18:30 - 19:15... Our recomendation for this kind of money - look somewhere else!!
