Grand Hôtel Des Gobelins  

It is a good hotel, with affordable price for Paris conditions. A bit far from centre, in 13-th arrondissement, but well located, two big metro stations are 10-15 minutes walking distance. So it's very easy to get anywhere in Paris, including a connection with rer trains for two main airports. The big and well supplied supermarket is very nearly. Famous La rue Mouffetard is easy to get from here, and there is a market, fish market, a lot of food shops, restaurants with French and international cuisine, and is easy to find a place to eat or to have a drink. Hotel staff is very kind, English speaking, very helpful. Wi-Fi internet was free, included in our room's rate, we just asked for the code and password at reception desk. Room was small, but clean and tidy, so as bathroom, with clean towels every day. Windows are well insulated and diminish the noise from the street.

No air-condition but the weather was pleasant so there wasn’t need for it. However, there's no any fridge, nor mini-bar, so if you buy some food, like French cheese, you'll have no place to put it over night. Very big MINUS is breakfast – the selection of food is just awful – every day the same tasteless pale ham and dried cheese, jam, never enough hot milk, sometimes no croissants. :-( And the breakfast room is very small, tiny, with about only 6 or 7 little eating tables, so people in the morning have to wait in the lobby for half an hour just to get a place to sit.

Rooms are rather small

With the exception of one of the reception desk staff (see below), the hotel was well organised, clean and, based on the rates, the rooms were decently seized. Not that t was necessary in our case, but the front desk spoke reasonably well English and unlike most other hotels in this class in France, there was a copy of the Herald Tribune available in the lobby.

When checking in, we asked if the room had two beds and was in a quiet part of the hotel (as specifically requested via Booking.com). A little plump lady at the front desk, insisted that we hadn't requested a quiet room but confirmed that the room had two separate beds. Once in the room, it turned out that the two beds were made up as one, so we had to return to the front desk. The lady was adamant that we had two separate beds and became extremely rude and arrogant and only upon our insistence asked housekeeping to make up two separate beds. We will not return to this hotel if this unprofessional person, who should not be employed in the hospitality industry, is still there.

Excellent location, easy to walk to main tourist attractions or take metro; helpful staff on reception;

Dining room is exceptionally small for number of rooms and very cramped when busy; Breakfast was adequate but limited variety; Breakfast staff not super friendly; little english. Not great value for money, but then again, this was Paris.

Stay was good, comfortable .

Breakfast buffet was ok but could have done with more selection.

Great location , away from main tourist drag but easy walk to two Metro lines. Supermarket , Phamacy , Bars/Cafes close by.

Very small breakfast room . Not a problem when we stayed previously in January but not so good in August when hotel full.

It is in a pleasant area, good for restaurants. Handy for the metro, or walkable to Isle de la Cite. You felt safe at . Pleasant helpful staff. Breakfast was good.

The hotel is conveniently located and offered free wi-fi and breakfast.

Not having A/C, we had to open a few windows for cross ventilation, which made it noisy on the 3rd floor.

Helpful reception staff,easy access to town centre, plenty of shops and restaurants in near vicinity .Have stayed twice previously.
