Hôtel Restaurant Le Lion d'Or  

Very spartan. Not even any soap in the bathroom. The location is on a corner of the town hall square with lots of heavy traffic passing right below. The hotel advertise it has a restaurant, but it does not mention it is closed on Sundays - as are the other restaurants in town at this time of year. The only available options were a pizzaria and a kebab house.

Ideally located a few minutes off the a10 in a pleasant, unspoilt town. Friendly, helpful staff. Perhaps the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Soft pillows as opposed to the Himalayan variety so often found in even the best hotels. Quiet (my room was at the back.) The local red wine: sensationally good.

The following are very mild criticisms, designed to be helpful. There are several cheese-paring false economies that somewhat spoil the overall impression of the hotel: no shower curtain, no bedside tables, two miserable little packets of liquid gel, exiguous tv. It all seems to say "we're giving you the bare minimum" - which is not the spirit of the place at all. The bar and dining room are decorated in the operating theatre/works canteen/aircraft hangar style that is somewhat cold and forbidding. The food is over-ambitious and not entirely successful. A warmed up decor and a simpler menu would transform the place into an absolute gem.

we stayed one night, we arrived to late for the restaurant but the owner was great and arranged for us to have food in our room. We had a large room over looking the street and church, the room was very nice and clean. The owner obviously takes great pride in the hotel, and in ensuring his guests have the most enjoyable stay they can.

Very friendly people. Simple but nice room. Excellent restaurant. Good breakfast. Handy parking right outside. Great value. Not far off the the main autoroute so good overnighter for travelling.

The greeting and helpful staff. Tea and coffee making facility in your room. It was very clean.

We always choose a hotel that has a restaurant as after driving for seven hours we do not wish to have to go out searching for anywhere else. The details on the Booking.com site stated that the restaurant wef Oct 1st was closed on Sundays and Mondays. As we were staying there on a Tuesday to be told as soon as we arrived that the resturant was closed on Tuesdays was a disappointment to say the least. We were offered the menu of the day as long as we ate before 8:30pm but the choice was not exactly inspiring. The patron then told us that there were two nearby restaurants which were open so we checked them out and decided upon Chez Memere just 25 metres away and there we had a really enjoyable evening. We explained to the patron that the web site was not correct and he said he would check it out. The facilites in the bathroom were very limited. No shower screen/curtain and nowhere to place anything upon, no shelves at all. So you have to operate from your toilet bag placed on the floor. The room lacked a 'womans' touch.

The food was superb, the staff were lovely and the rooms were well decorated. The location from the motorway is very convenient

Ideal if travelling on major roads through France. Clean, modern bedroom and bathroom. Beautiful terrace and lovely food (if a little expensive). Would recommend but be aware of market day as it's right on the town square and market sets up at 6am!

We arrived after the opening hours of the reception on their normal closing evening (monday), but there was 1 person waiting for us to check in. He adviced us to drive to a small town in the neighbourhood for dinner. The next morning he asked if we found a good restaurant. Breakfast was good (buffet).

Great little village in the heart of the Cognac region. Very clean, friendly and comfortable. Good restaurant and very helpful staff.

The hotel has been recently refurbished and the decor was minimalist in style but was very well done. The bathroom was very well equiped although a shower curtain or panel would have been useful. The TV could have been a bit bigger. The bed was very comfortable. The food was absolutely superb and the service prompt and efficient. We would stay there again.

Very hospitable and adequate facilities

We were travelling to Spain and Gemozac is about 7 minutes from the motorway. The Lion D'or made an excellent hotel for a stopover

la chambre pour 4 était spacieuse et propre.Salle de bain avec douche ,grande et propre.Personnel acceuillant et disponible..Nous gardons cette adresse pour une prochaine fois.

L'insonorisation des chambres doit poser problème en cas d'affluence. La douche et le lavabo très petit malgré l'espace de la salle de bain

La Surprise : Le restaurant était ferme le soir !!! Basse saison!!! Et pour manger autre chose que kebab ou pizza il faut faire 50 km à/r!!! Si on avait été informé nous n'aurions pas réservé cet hôtel

Des gens très accueillants. J'ai vu 2 chambres l'une très bien l'autre trop mal agencée. Il faut pouvoir avoir le choix de sa chambre

La bouilloire à café il faut la poser à terre car il n'y a pas de prise . La télé bien trop petite et en décalage par rapport au lit on ne voir rien ça c'est trop nul dommage!!!
