You had to book bedroom breakfast at the desk the evening in advance, which isn't a problem, but they forgot to mark it down and we had to specifically go downstairs and ask for it again, which almost defeats the point. Cleaning was daily but not consistent (I think every cleaning team had a different idea of how to arrange stuff), and they left cleaning products once. Also didn't change the sheets even once over the course of a week, although they were clearly in need of changing. One of the evenings the sauna and whirlpool were lukewarm... But usually this wasn't an issue. All in all very minor things.
The place was lovely, the staff was friendly, especially the breakfast lady who was attentive and competent and unobtrusive. Checking in was incredibly easy, and the swimming pool hall was gorgeous. The view from the bedroom was beautiful and the entire building was authentically, not tacky rustic, which you see rarely these days. The bed was very comfortable and therefore difficult to leave, which is a good thing. Walks in the area were lovely even in the cold. Breakfast was wonderful and the price was amazing! Little details like the wooden lift were gorgeous and hightened the pleasure. Many of the guests in both the hotel and the restaurants were French and locals instead of tourists as opposed to the more luxurious chateau up the hill which we visited for a massage, which was very pleasant and bodes well for the reputation of the hotel and restaurants.
