Between Avignon and Orange, on the country roads of Provence, fragrant with thyme and rosemary, discover this beautiful ancient sheepfold from the 17th century in the heart of surrounding vineyards.
Score from 118 reviews Good
Avignon Grand Hôtel is ideally located just outside the city’s Middle Age walls. It is a 15-minute walk from Palais des Papes and offers a small rooftop pool.
Score from 781 reviews Very good
This luxury hotel, dating back to 1309, is in Avignon city center. It offers 18th-century Enlightenment-style guest rooms with views through the antique windows overlooking the Palais des Papes.
Score from 101 reviews Wonderful
Set in the heart of the Provence region, the hotel is ideally situated in a quiet district, near the Bridge of Avignon and the Pope’s Palace.
Score from 328 reviews Very good
What a beautiful location! Service is impeccable, and the food in the dining room is world class.
Not correctly listed on GPS making the hotel hard to find.
We loved our room, which was on the ground floor. It had a large private terrace with table & chairs and lounge chairs. The pool was on the other side of our gate Served as a great base for wine tasting and visiting other towns in the area We thoroughly enjoyed our meal in the restaurant.
That we only stayed 2 nights.
Beautiful rooms in a magnificent location!
We loved the location, setting is superb, the management and staff excellent. The maels were outstanding
A very beautiful chateau, very lovely and beautiful sleeping room, very warm hospitality by the staff and a perfect French dinner at the restaurant...all these bring us a perfect stay. Definitely I will recommend to my friends and will come back again soon!
all are perfect
Lovely place and the staff are all very nice and helpful.
The restaurant was ok. I would say not what we expected for the value.
We didnt like the food.
It is a postcard like chateau with a 1km private road (5m tall tress on both side). Will meet the expectation of those who dream to stay in a beautiful wine making chateau. Excellent staff Spacious room with great view
It is 3.5km (include the 1km private road) drive from town centre. This means you don't have the luxury of walk to town for dinner, drink lots of wines, and then walk back to your hotel. The 1.3km indicated is probably straight line distance. Parking space is small (given that the chateau is so huge)
The service is really good and the staff is really friendly, the food is excellent and the views are stunning. My favorite wine area, so the wine is superb.
The shower in our room was quite small.
Everything. Absolutely perfect. I would recommend for both business and pleasure.
The views, the wine, the room, the restaurant...all lovely.
Maybe could do with an extra staff member. Breakfast was very expensive at 18€ for a limited selection and a supplement for hot food/eggs!
The hotel was very picture postcard!! The room was lovely, clean and spacious. We had a great time there with our friends and visited the winery.
The main restaurant wasn't open because it was being refurbished which was disappointed as it wasn't mentioned at the time of booking. There was not a very good selection of drinks, for example I really fancied a nice gin and tonic by the fireplace after my meal but there was no gin only brandy or whiskey which for a four star hotel it not very good. The bathroom was also very cold. The little heater was not adequate for the size of the room.
- view from the room : Chateauneuf du pape vineyards and the village - restaurant: excellent cuisine and awesome wine list ! -staff: very amenable. One of our friends is vegetarian. Special menu was prepared for her
Our room was a standard room. I would have expected the room to be decorated according to the provencal design, as it is for a superior room
-the ambiance -the beauty -the friendly very attentive staff -the food - the rooms -the quiet peaceful surrounds - the complete experience
It was located overlooking vineyards. Absolutely spectacular!! Our room had a superb view.
The property is a little "tired". Breakfast was great but the gourmet dinner was overrated in our opinion for the money. We are very happy to pay a high price when it is deserved.
This is a small boutique hotel, only 11 rooms, the food and staff were excellent and the owners took the time to tell us of interesting sites to visit while in the area. We had the opportunity to visit historical sites, wineries, markets, quaint restaurants, a great place to stay while visiting the Provence area.
idea of staying in a castle, its proximity to Chateauneuf-du-Pape tasting rooms, view, gourmet dining experience
We have stayed at many inns around the world, many of which did not cost this much but where we felt much more pampered & appreciated. We felt as if this Relais was operating on a shoestring budget: we had no hot water one day, on another we had to ask for towels (were given a bathrobe instead), our friends had to ask for a second bar of soap for the shower! There was no complimentary water or beverages of any description. There was no material on wine tours / other venues of a competing nature to this Relais. At checkout, we had to wait for 30 minutes for a manager to come in, no one even offered us coffee while we waited. While the staff tried to be helpful, the attitude of (male) management left us feeling unwelcome. On one occasion, we brought a very expensive bottle of wine to enjoy in the courtyard, the wine was purchased from the La Nerthe vineyard next door. There was absolutely no one else in the courtyard but we were told by an irate (male) manager that we could not do that. "This is not America!" was his retort. Unfortunately it did not stop there. He made the point of embarrassing our friend on her way to join us by reprimanding her in front of other hotel guests. Since we did not feel welcome here we took all other meals at competitive locations where we experienced excellent food, value & service! We would never return to this Relais!
Very good facilities annd helpful staffs
The owners were VERY friendly and knowledgeable about the area allowing us to have an excellent experience visiting the local vineyards. We are just beginning to explore the world of "wines", and they were able to point us to vineyards where are lack of knowledge and experience were met with charming enthusiasm. Five star all the way!
