Set in Carcassonne's circular walls and its own glorious gardens is Hôtel De La Cité. It is a Medieval-style chateau and offers an outdoor swimming pool with views of Saint Nazaire Basilica. Classic or Provencal-style decoration and an iPod docking station feature in all of the luxury rooms and suites at La Cité. Some suites have a balcony with spectacular views of the city. Homemade pastries are served at breakfast and regional dishes are offered in the brasserie and summer restaurant. Guests can also dine in the Michelin star Barbacane or enjoy a cocktail in the 2 bars. Guests can go wine tasting in the cellar or organize a river cruise at the 24-hour front desk. The actual hotel and location was excellent and beautiful, reception staff helpful and polite, pool side girl kiera was a treasure she looked after us very well and was so friendly. The gourmet restaurant wasnt worth the money and the service was terrible by one member of staff in particular laure who was very rude to me when I pointed out my water glass was dirty she said 'what' in a tone that I shouldnt of been spoken to in whether her english was good or not I know what pardon is in french! We choose to eat there as it was my husbands 40th birthday when he went to leave the table to freshen up he was told to 'Stay' by her not please or anythign as our food was coming my husband left as her tone and manner had upset him so much she should not of been serving with her attitude wasnt impressed at all! We ate in La Parc the night before and the food was in a different league for the better.

In the walled city. The room had a very pleasant sitting out area. Very expensive at almost 1000 Euros for two nights. Expected a lot better. Driving in and out of the walled city was a real nightmare, not for faint hearted.

Staying at the Hotel de la Cite Carcassonne was a real treat and worth the money. All of the staff were helpful. The breakfast was very pricey so chose to get a coffee and croissant from the bakery just down the road. Pricey breakfast.

The room was superb, service was excellent, and the location was incredible I did not like the fact that they gave our room away on the first of two nights that we were staying there. I strongly feel that this had something to do with the half dozen Ferrari's that were driving into the walled city that night...in front of our Twingo.

Helpful staff when my flight was cancelled. The breakfast room staff deserve a particular mention for their cheerful welcome and service. Beds very comfortable. Lovely gardens and great location. The east facing rooms suffer from extremely noisy traffic on the cobblestones from 4.30 am onwards even at weekends due to traffic restrictions during normal working hours

This is a beauiful hotel.We had views over Carcassone from our veranda.The service was also excellent and high standards of cleanliness. We had no complaints as the hotel is fabulous.It would have been nice to have another english channel on the TV but as we had our laptop, we were prepared for this.

Our stay was superb! The staff did everything to make our stay unforgetable. On our arrival they upgraded us to a suite overlooking Carcassone! What a city! Everything was perfect, the hotel is beautiful, the ambience of it - a lot of history, good taste, beautiful furniture, boiserie on the walls! - the staff is excellent, very well qualified, thanks to the the lady in the breakfast room - Nathalie was her name, I think! Carcassone is magic and Hotel de la Cité offers the guests even more they can dream aboutt! We`ll never forget our stay there!

Luxury at a decent price. Friendliest staff encountered overseas (including pick up from the city walls in Carcassonne), the room was beautiful and set in the heart of the medieval city - what more could you ask for? Nothing, was a great stay.

This must be one of the world's most beautiful hotels. The location is unbelievable, the staff superb - helpful beyond belief, and the look is just gorgeous, it feels like stepping back into history with all the privileges and comforts of the 21st century.

All staff, including their excellent restaurant Barbacane, we had contact with were outstanding and created a warm and elegant atmosphere of "we'll take care of you". Personally I think some of their hallways need a new lick of paint, but then again you could call that part of the charm of staying in a hotel within a medieval fortress...
