The furnishings in the rooms were somewhat impractical in some cases.
For example, the bedside tables were small kidney shaped glossy black
affairs, which had little space left for personal effects as they had a
lamp on them, the tv control and channels list, etc. There was no shelf
underneath either. The wardrobe in my room was in effect a large cabin
trunk turned on it's side, with the only hanging space in the lid.
The bulk of the trunk was given over to drawers, but I would have
preferred more area to use for hanging clothes. I felt that the
designers had gone in for visual impact (which was good admittedly!)
rather more than the convenience of the guest. My friend's room did
have the more conventional type of wardrobe in it however, so it all
depends on which room you are allocated, (mine being 401 by the way).
Having said all that, the overall decor was excellent and as I said
before, visually great on first sight.
The hotel was in a fantastic location in the medieval heart of
Strasbourg just a short distance from the beautiful cathedral - a wow
experience in itself! (The clock chimes didn't disturb sleep as they
were turned off overnight until 7am.) Hotel staff were friendly,
helpful, and efficient, and the atmosphere in bar and reception was
welcoming. Eating and drinking was at reasonable prices with outside
terraces fronting onto the street, but also at the quieter rear away
from passing tourists. Your room is available until noon so no rushing
to have breakfast and vacate. You could also take your dog should you
want that option.
