Hôtel Faidherbe  

Very central location in Boulogne. Nice owner. Comfy beds and relaxing atmosphere. Hilarious 'bottom bath'.

Somewhat noisy if you have a room at the front as we did.

The hotel is in a great location in the city centre, close to bars, shops and restaurants. It was a logis hotel which my husband likes.

The toilet was very noisy on flushing, because it had a flushing mechanism that did not go to the mains but was more like a portaloo system.

It was a typical "shabby shic" french hotel, but located right in the heart of Boulogne and therefore useful for shops and walking around the town. Breakfasts were good. The bedroom warm.The staff friendly.There is also a large carpark quite close to the rear of the hotel, which was useful.

The bedrooms were somewhat short of our expectation (having the previous night stayed in a budget hotel, the Premier Inn) The small bathroom and built in wardrobe looked like they were fitted by a local handy man, and then painted over with purple paint . The furniture was basic. And the booking not quite right, given that we had booked 2 double rooms and got 1 double and 1 twin.We had a poor bottle of wine one evening, before going out.

Location/breakfast/service

The only down side to this hotel was the noise level from the street, if you are looking for a quiet trip I would not advise you stay here. Parking is also an issue

The hotel was reasonable value, clean and very friendly, if a little basic.

The hotel suffers from minimal maintenance. Two bulbs not working in the bathroom also one lampshade missing, the shower tray drain was partially blocked and filled up with water and the tiles had black mould growing on the grout.

Good location to centre of Boulogne. Friendly staff, large clean room. Secure underground parking, close to hotel, was worth the extra cost.

The bed mattress was quite hard. I would suggest replacing the toilet seat (Room 100), due to the fact that the laminate coating had exposed the chipboard wood, which was not very hygenic.

The window blind did not work. We asked on two mornings for it to be loosened, but nothing was done. The room needed dusting, but the chambermaid did not do so and must have done little more than change towels and pull up the sheet.

Arrived after 10pm so no access to secure parking or reception staff .Very noisy location -very little sleep due to noise from bar/nightclub nearby.

It would have been nice to have a wider choice at breakfast. The baths in the rooms were small and in the room I was in the shower worked but the bath taps did not.

Exceptional customer service language was sometimes a barrier - I haven't spoken french for sometime and am a little rusty but we managed . Breakfast traditional continental with local cheese and jam and gorgeous.Rooms clean bathroom small but usable .

The bed was really good--one of the best i've experienced in a hotel. Room was small but nicely laid out. Staff was pleasant. For me, the old town and its cathedral--about a 20 min. walk--was the most interesting thing to visit. The lower town must have been destroyed and rebuilt after the war. The harbor is bustling w. major activity--cranes, gas tanks, marine buildings, etc. But of course you can also get fresh seafood almost anywhere.
