Prefect location, clean rooms and helpful staff.
We like the old fashioned feel and smell of the hotel whilst also having all mod cons.
Nothing to dislike
Everything. The staff were excellent, the hotel and furnishings/rooms were beautiful. The food was superb. We have been to Chartres several times but this was our first in the Grand Monarque. We shall definitely be back.
You could not fault a thing.
Traveling as sole adult with three kids (14, 14, and 11), can sometimes be nerve-wracking. Coming to the Grand Monarque was lovely. We all loved the physical space, and the staff were helpful and informative, recommending places to go and things to do. It was an absolute pleasure staying at this hotel in Chartres and we will definitely be back.
We loved the old world charm of this hotel. Its location in the city centre is terrific as it is close to the cathedral, local restaurants and the walking streets of the shopping area. For us secure parking off street was very important and this was provided for here.
There was nothing we didn't like.
Walking distance to city centre Good buffet breakfast choice Friendly staff Valet parking
Noise from street No aircon - room stuffy
Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. Location of hotel superb. Chartres is a lovely place to visit.
Nothing to dislike!
Bed Decor Food
No lift to my part of the hotel
The food of the restaurant and the kind service by Caroline and Stephany. The car-service The helpfull and kind receptionist
This hotel oozed old world style from the moment we walked into reception. The room itself was spacious and furnished and decorated in a stylish manner. We were told later that the Grand Monarque is the best hotel in Chartres and it easy to see why. It's not often you get to stay in such a classy establishment at such a reasonable rate.
There aren't parking bays immediately outside the hotel so it is difficult to know where to park on arrival. We had reserved parking (which turned out to be valet parking no less!!) so I was not too concerned about having to find somewhere to park, but it would be nicer if there where clearly marked short stay spaces for guest use. In terms of the room itself we have two children aged 13 and 9 so they are too young for a room on there own, but too old to share a sofa bed which they had to do - it would be nicer if the hotel offered two single put-up beds as an alternative to a double sofa bed - a 4 person room should not automatically mean 2 couples!! We also did not have the breakfast as it seemed a bit pricey.
Air vent in toilet needed cleaning. Odd cobwebs round window Both surprising in such a good jotel
Ideal spot, right in the centre of Chartres. But it is the friendliness of the staff that make this a great place to stay. Bistro was good too.
Can't think of anything I didn't like about this hotel.
Helpful staff, comfortable beds, well located for summer light show
wifi a bit erratic, rather average breakfast
Close proximity to town
Car was in secure car park but 200 mtrs away up side road which wasn't good if you needed something.
First we loved the location - right next to tourist quarter. Room was exceptionally comfortable - a huge and very comfortable bed; sofa. Helpful staff, even parked our car for us. Overall ambience was very pleasing
Easy to book, centrally located, OK rooms, clean, secure
Difficult to drive to involving turning into a side-street and doing a U-turn to get to the doors Having to carry luggage up a short flight of stairs to get to Reception Poor temperature control if you can't open the windows (it was raining the first night I was there and I suffocated) Horrible corridors - like out of a Cohen Brothers movie
Location, quality of premises and excellent staff, food was great too.
Room was a bit stuffy but had a fan so all in all no problem
We found all staff courteous and helpful Food excellent Pleasant ambiance. Both enjoyed our stay both on way out and returning from our destination
The staff was very attentive and immediately receptive for feedback. I guess I was lucky to be in a (recently?) renovated standard room with quite a bit of space, which I was positively surprised, especially in comparison to the size of the deluxe room my friends had.
Having to sign in to the WiFi every time and even multiple times when in the room was annoying. Bed head piece and other ledges were obviously dusty, as well as the vent in the bathroom. Small detail but if it's that obvious, it needs attention. Having to pay extra for the pool/spa is a turn-off.
We chose Chartres as a convent night stopover en route to Southern France. The town is interesting with lots of little bars and restaurants. In the evening there is a light display on many of the buildings in the town centre which was interesting. The hotel was clean and quiet with attentive staff.
The only downside is that the hotel has no parking even for unloading bags. You are directed to an underground public car park across the street. To get to this car park can be a little awkward as there is a one way traffic system and there was quite a lot of traffic.
Lovely location, bars ,shops and the magnificent Chartre Cathedral all nearby. The evening light show there was awesome. Loved the old French style glamour of hotel. Great atmosphere in communal areas, particularly bar. Warm, friendly staff. Good mix of modern and antique furniture and classic decor, comfy bed.
Nothing negative to say.
Enjoyable stay and hassle free
This hotel is lovely. It is right in the centre of Chartres, so you are able to walk to all the shops, bars and restaurants. Our room was spacious, with a huge comfortable bed, lovely big bathroom and beautifully decorated. There was only one problem, our room (300) was right next to the lift and it vibrated a bit when it was used, but it wasn't noisy. We didn't eat in the restaurant although it did look lovely, we decided to walk in to the centre and go to one of the many restaurants there. We would definitely stay here again
Breakfast was 15euros which we thought was a bit expensive, so we walked a cross the road and had breakfast in the centre.
Friendly and helpful staff, high quality restaurant
