It was a nice hotel with a great location for all of the D-Day tours in Bayeux. The staff was excellant, breakfast was good, not great, the room was clean but a little out dated. I would stay there again.

Good position. I was very disappointed that I overlooked the wadrobe where I had two shirts. I emailed the hotel immediately on my return to the UK asking if they had them and offering to pay carriage for their return. The email was totally ignored.

The hotel is in the midst of transition since Hotel Luxembourg is taking it over. Therefore, I can't really give a reasonable comment on what it will be like. As I said, it's in transition. Therefore I would not be able to recommend the hotel, since I'm not sure what sort of upgrades they will do.

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel was updated very nicely and the rooms were a good size. The small areas of landscaping were nice as well. I would highly recommend this hotel and wished we could have stayed longer. The room was a great size and the bathroom was good, too. Everything was clean and neat and very nice. The wi-fi wasn't working the night we were there and we urgently needed to book our next night's accommodations and check the train schedule.

Clean and tidy hotel with no frills but about right for the rate charged. Room well kept and serviced. Breakfast expensive hence we did not take this up. Then again everywhere is expensive compared to before the Euro. It is clear that everybody we spoke to who were not French considers the Country to be expensive and not necessarilly the best quality. 7 euros for a pint of Guiness is nearly as expensive as Scandinavia. 5.40 euros for a pint of local beer is also expensive considering a pint in England even in London is only £3.50. Car parking is a nightmare. You really need to do something about this. The raised centre piece in the middle of the car park needs to be removed giving more space to manoevre the car about. And 11 euros is too much to pay for a night. And there is no guarantee of a space even, if like us, you requested a space in advance and for six nights. You should consider parking permits issued when you check in to display in the car window. Guests should also be told to keep the noise down as we were awaoken on some mornings by noisy departures (6 o'clock!!) and also by staff chatting and having a cigarette outside what I assume was the kitchen.

Reasonably priced hotel in a great location. The room was big, and the beds were comfortable. The TV was very small, and there was no A/C (however this is not usually needed in Normandy). The hotel restaurant did not have an English menu.

The garden and the town of Bayeux The smallness of the room and the uncomfortable bed did not justify the excessive price - higher than many of its competitors The price for breakfast was extortionate compared with that of other hotels .in the region. Given the charge for the tiny room , to charge for the parking in addition was excessive You should know that we stayed for just 1 night because of our dissatisfaction and even gained more statisfaction from an ETAP hotel later!

Close to town centre. Booked for 3 adults. One adult was given a fold away bed that was very uncomfortable. Mattress was very thin. Tv did not work, and was not given any discount for this. Breakfast was expensive for what it was, so chose not to have it. Parking was very tight. Easy to get blocked in if wanting to leave early. Shower was hand held only, no hook to attach shower head to wall.

This Hotel is now part of the Grand Hotel Luxembourg next door. It said it was a Best Western but there was no evidence of this ie , no computer available for internet access. The room was a bit small but very clean and comfortable. Good breakfast. Good location near restaurants and shops and not far from the Bayeux Tapestry and Cathedral.

Location and price My room was very hot. I had to open the windows wide before going to bed to try and cool it down. Ok, it was late July but the temperature outside was not excessive - maybe 25 max during the day, and quite cool in the evenings.

The place is nicely locted close to the city centre.Wifi is for free and the staff is very helpful. The price for their parking space is quite high, taken into consideration that free parking for limited periods is available all across the town.

Good location very close to the town center Do not get a room by the elevator. The walls are thin and you will hear the elevator going up and down all night.

We stayed in the 6 person suite on the top floor. It had two bedrooms and a sleeper sofa in the large common area. It was clean but a little dated. The bathroom door didn't close well. It is located in the middle of Bayeux, and the staff was very friendly. The hotel called us a taxi to take to the American cemetery on Omaha Beech. (A must see)

I liked the sceneary and landscape. The rooms were large and you had a nice bathroom. Also, the hotel tv worked as well which was a bonus. If you're an American, they'll rip you off. They rush you when you check out and then they'll charge you for extra things that you didn't do. For example, I didn't have a car, but was charged for parking twice! I ate breakfast by myself, but they charged me for two people. If I'd known they were going to do that, I would've brought in a bum to share the food with. Their tolerance of foreigners was bearable, but I don't really suggest it for Germans or Americans. They seem to dislike us quite a bit.

Checkout hotel was in a good location Our room did not have a shower curtain. We asked the staff numerous times to provide one. They seemed to think we were asking for too much. One was never provided. We also asked for a light bulb to be replaced so I could read in the room. Again one was never provided. Staff was very unhelpful and rude. Staff smoked outside underneath our room and carried out a very loud conversation late into the night (after 11pm). They dud thus 2 nights in a row. Pillow was the size of a sheet of paper. It was so bad we checked out a night early.

The location was perfect for visiting the the town. The room was comfortable. We did not take the breakfast. Parking is available for a price but we did not use. The staff were very helpful. We enjoyed our one night stay. This hotel met all our expectations for our overnight stay. We chose it based on location and pricing.

The dinner was actually very good although the seating was poor. Part of the personel seemed uninterested in customers. The breakfast was unexiting and not worth the price. The coffee was the worst we have encountered for many years - even in France!

“Several things we loved about Le Lion D'or was the location, the pictures on the wall in the lounge/bar of all the famous people who stayed there, the ease of checking in (I had arranged the booking over the internet from the us), the lovely flower boxes and exterior of the hotel and how it was tucked into the block, off the street. Very quiet. But the most wonderful aspect was the bubbling personality of the young woman at the desk, whose name escapes now. Was it Cecelia? I'm not sure. She had blonde/brown hair and was so helpful and nice and made us feel so welcome and directed me to several shopping spots and gave me directions to every place I wanted to go. She was just so charming and wonderful. Our dates of stay were December 9, checked out on the 10th. Thank you. ” Marian, Savoy |
