The location (right across from Nausicaa, and a pleasant walk along the harbour to the city centre) and the service were both excellent. The breakfast was expensive (and not included) so we did not partake. (Nor did we check out other facilities such as the pool, simply because we were too busy during our few days there.) Some might find the distance to the city centre too much; we thought it just right.

I like to be able to park the car safely under cover. The location of the hotel is very convenient to reach the Channel Tunnel. I like to visit Wimereux and to travel on the coast road from there to Coquelles. The room was very comfortable and clean and we enjoyed the extra touches that make a stay comfortable. The only thing that I can think of is that there was no view from the window.

We have stayed before, three years ago. Our main memory was of an excellent meal. We planned our trip through France to Spain to incorporate this as a first night stop after crossing the channel. We were not disappointed. A very comfortable, well appointed room, secure parking and another memorable meal.

Courtesy from Receptionists. Flexibility to change from queen size bed to twin beds. The restaurant was below par. The maître d'hôtel was rude, the service was poor. The food is overpriced.

Pay the extra to book/ upgrade to a prestige room, but do specify a balcony as three of the prestige rooms don't include this. Beds very comfortable on both occasions we've stayed. Hotel is convenient for Nausicaa opposite and views out to the beach. The key reason for staying here is especially for the ease of stumbling back upstairs from the in- house gourmet restaurant. The food at "la Matelote" is amazing, copious, luxurious and worth the relatively large amounts of money, though we never had breakfast as still full from the night before! Special offer Currently: if you arrive in town during the afternoon and are planning on visiting Nausicaa the following morning, buy a ticket for €1 pp between 4:30pm to 5:30pm rather than the full €18 pp the next day. Note the bedrooms are all rather small- or perhaps just oversized furniture makes it cramped. In any case, not the size you'd expect for the price! Various reviews elsewhere slated the breakfast for value to quality- we did not partake. Service can be excellent, or patchy and inconsistent when they're busy. Parking linked to the hotel at €12 euros is a tiny space, so unless you drive an old mini or 205, you'll struggle (Audi tt, then Skoda superb both too wide to open any doors,) Use Nausicaa parking opposite instead at their guest hotel €8 rate.

Past experience of numerous visits - very convenient for ferries and Tunnel, and Boulogne is the best of the seaside towns. Staff are always welcoming, there is secure undercover parking, and Tony Lestienne's restaurant next door (also La Matelote) is excellent; we had another memorable meal there this trip. The rooms are small but comfortable, ideal for a one night stopover en route. Altogether highly recommended, but prior booking advisable. No complaints - always of a high standard.

Staff were positive, friendly and helpful. Their sense of humour and kindness were such a welcome after a long drive. The bed was a little uncomfortable but the room was well set out, with nice decor.

Everything was excellent. Restaurant not cheap but excellent food, service etc. There is free parking around. You don't need the hotel's private parking.

The ease of booking, the welcome and the atmosphere made our stay excellent. Even though it was out of season, we were treated as welcome guests. We particularly appreciated the pre-stay phone call checking that our details were correct. The restaurant was shut for annual holidays which was fine - but it would have been nice to be told where else we could eat. Also the mastic in the shower was showing signs of mold.

The only concern I had with the hotel is that the restaurant was closed, and I do not think this was made sufficently clear at the time of booking, hence the reduced score above. However, the staff were extremely helpful, found us an alternative restaurant, and generally made our stay very acceptable.

Convenient location from autoroute. Restaurant is quite good with very good and friendly service. Staff was very cooperative and polite. Room was noisy and only marginally comfortable. Internet wi-fi service did not work properly. Garage, for which extra charge is made, was difficult and too crowded. Overall, not worth the price.

The location, the room was nice and we had a balcony, the parking onsite. The receptionist was friendly The restaurant - only haute cuisine available . All extras (eg water in the room) were chargeable. Breakfast would be 15 euros each. It definitely is a luxury option!

Excellent restaurant. Comfortable and stylish room. Very good breakfast range and quality. Room too warm. Should have a walk in shower (get rid of bath). And for the English provide sufficient milk.

The prestige room we had was excellent - plenty of space a very comfortable bed and good bathroom with separate toilet. Private car parking was also useful. The only problem with the hotel, in my opinion, was the fact that the restaurant was very expensive - even just for breakfast.

It was quiet. Good mattress. The duvet was horrible ! Too heavy and polyester, as so many hotel duvet's are, making for an overheated and uncomfortable night. Too little complimentary tea, coffee, milk and biscuits for a 4 star hotel.

“The hotel is in a good location a few minutes walk from the beach, shops and restaurants and has free parking on the streets near by. It's easy to access Wimereux by driving along the very scenic coast road from Sangatte towards Boulogne so making it only a 20 minute or so drive from leaving the Shuttle terminal. Staff are very pleasant and helpful and the room - a triple was spacious, comfortable and had a newly refurbished bathroom.” Leila, Ottershaw |
