We stayed for one night only, but it was a truly pleasure, because of the friendly staff. Especially Mr Fabio, which explain to us everything what a tourist should know about Paris, plus some helpful tips. We truly recommend Royal Cardinal for a short stay in Paris. Andreea
The front desk guy was really helpful
Size of the rooms and facilities
Friendly staff Good location- close to Bars, Metro stations and tourist attractions, such as the Notre Dame cathedral. Also, our room had a French balcony, from which you could see the Eiffel Tower.
The room and furniture was dated and quite shabby. It needed to be painted and completely re-vamped. Also, the corridor outside the room was quite noisy at night. The hotel wasn't really what I had expected and I don't think that I would stay there again.
We really liked the location of the hotel. Close to two metro stations and major attractions. Extremely knowledgeable concierge, who helped us plan out our stay. He gave us great info that got us around and into major attractions without the fuss. A lot of great places to eat around the hotel too. Overall charming atmosphere, friendly staff, and great access to the surrounding area.
The room was clean and small size, however we spent most of our time outside sight seeing anyways. Would have appreciated a kettle and cups in the room, which was not provided. Our visit was in January so we spent the first night in our room uncomfortablely cold thinking that the heater would do it's job overnight. The next morning we called the front desk explaining, and they provided us with a portable heater, which helped a lot. Don't expect to sleep in, mornings are very noisy as housekeeping is busy delivering breakfast to guests in other rooms or chit-chatting with each other. Also beware, in our case housekeeping didn't bother knocking before barging in. Still however, overall we had no major issues at the hotel.
One of the receptionist was wery rude and unfriedly. The day before leaving he kept asking when are we leaving. Rooms are super small, walls are super thin - even talking is heard from the neighbouring rooms. There were not enough hot water, heating was inadequate, in bathroom there were actualy no heating. Blankets were like those they provide on the shelter home. Brekfast is not royal it is poor. Elevator is so small that you hardly put bags in it and it is regulary used by the cleaning stuff. And about the cleaning stuff. You'll see black ladies barefooted. Only good thing is the location. I suggest avoiding this hotel.
I liked the location, close to Norte Dame
The beds are uncomfortable. The room rent charged was €117, the quoted rate was €107. Amenities are non existent.
The location & room very very good for the money. Also last minute availability
The man who checked me in at the hotel was quite rude. I'd forgotten my passport at a friends hotel & instead of checking me in with a photocopy while my friends retrieved the passport he treated me like a low class citizen & made me sit in the lobby while I waited.
Staff, facilities, cleanliness, ... mainly everything was poor.
Arriving in Paris from Turin on the early-morning TGV, it was essential for the hotel to be accessible on-foot from the terminal and also the main cultural areas. Just 15 mins from the Gare de Lyon in the 4th Arrondissement, the Royal Cardinal at No 1 Rue des Ecoles, proved to be an excellent choice. Situated close to The Notre Dame, and with two nearby Metro stops, this great city can thus be enjoyed with ease and pleasure. Outstanding value for one's holiday Euros, attentive and helpful staff, together with room-service breakfast, make this a hotel to be recommended for all travellers to Paris.
Location location and location
- No Breakfast other than room service - Extremely old beds and worn out - Bulbs not working - Noisy place from other rooms - Not very clean - Still stuff left from earlier person living in the room - Way too expensive for a 2 star hotel - Will never go there again
Reception Staff and his co operative behavior , more than the desk manager he was a very good guide .
Rooms & Accommodation we purely waste of money
I particularly liked the breakfast served in the room and I am grateful to Fabio, the receptionist, who was very helpful throughout our stay
British TV channels Location Lift (we were on 5th floor) Shower Safe in room. Pubs and bars nearby
No bedside tables. No tea / coffee making in room Breakfast room only service, 7euro p.p. Order night before. No bar Room bit cramped and dated decor
Worst hotel ever. Very run down. No air conditioning. We could't even open the windows because of the noice outside. The shower had 2 feet up that you need to jump up. Not good for older people. The hotel clerk Flavio try to be funny but very upnotious. Will not recommend this hotel. But the location is excellent.
Terrible room and way too expensive thru Booking.com. I have stayed there twice before but never again.
location is very good
the room is small and plain old bathroom furniture .... reasonable comfort ..
General hospitality facilities
A bit pricey, but I believe at par for accommodation in Paris. Paris is definitely overpriced as compared to other European cities. The Frontdesk was not truthful with offering tickets for a boat ride on the Seinriver. Sold it at no profit and we later found out there were general discounted tickets available. Also charged 10Euro fee to arrange a 40 Euro shuttle to airport. Initially colleague wanted to charge 70 Euro. Reception area quite small, virtually no space for luggage
No area to have breakfast, it is served in your room.
Fabio at the front desk was amazing. He felt like our own personal tour guide and everything he advised us to do worked out exactly as he said. From the boat trip to the transport tickets to the best places to eat. The location of the hotel was great too - we loved the Latin quarter, and the little square just a hop, skip and jump away from the hotel, filled with little terraces, boutiques and eating places. It is also very close to the ever impressive Notre Dam. The hotel itself is extremely quaint - definitey walk up the winding flight of stairs to your room at least once - the walls and carpet is just special, as is the teeny tiny lift. The bathroom was a good size with plenty of hot water, and a small bath, which was perfect for my younger child.
The room was incredibly hot. There was a large window / door so you could see outside but we had to close it at night because of the noise. The only ventilation was a very small window in the bathroom. My whole family were completely dried out by morning, I felt a bit like a prune. We also had very noisy neighbours on the one evening who decided to talk very loudly at 2am, so while the outside noise was completely blocked out, the walls were very thin. Yes, the bathroom needed some paint, and the room could have been bigger, but I would not complain about that - it fits the price and the feel of Paris, and that was more important to us. If you want spacious and modern, you probably wouldn't want to rest here.
Small room elevator did not work terrible and unpolite staff internet stoped many times
Fabio was very helpfull and with our limited french this was invaulable. Great location
no fridge in our room
Rude, condescending staff
Locality near to 2 Metro stations. Friendly helpful staff
Good position means that the rooms experience a great level of traffic noise. No aircon means balcony door has to be opened hence room is very noisy
Hotel location is excellent in walking distance to Notre Dame and Louvre and numerous small restaurants.
Toilet is smallest possible, less than 2 square meters surface. Having in mind hotel location, I would still recommend stay at this hotel.
