La Clede is the most idyllic place, located on a side of the mountain with exceptional views. You live in a historic country house, built of stone and full of character, where we enjoyed breakfasts with local fruit and honey, and in the evenings dinners were cooked to perfection by the owner from mostly locally sourced produce. We ate on the terrace overlooking the valley, from where on a starry night you could only hear he cicadas and the river at the bottom of the valley, with the scent of lavender and thyme completing our delight. I don't need to boast about the local wines from Ardeche and Cote du Rhone, arguably the best in France and the world. By day we enjoyed country walks, sunbathing and horse riding lessons, which for me was a huge step over a fear barrier, made possible thanks to the owners' expertise and patience. You can ride with the owners’ supervision, take riding lessons or simply chose to help clean and groom the horses and make friends with them and the cats, who are all most friendly and laid back like everything else around the place. The swimming pool and an al fresco jacuzzi placed in the nearby gardens enhanced our enjoyment and relaxation. A perfect recuperation place away from the rat race of London - I will definitely be back!
