Good location for galleries and the forest
Room was shabby and dirty -EG socket hanging off wall, old fashioned decor, weird heating that we couldn't turn off, breakfast nothing special and not much of an atmosphere. A shame as with some work it could be a really nice place.
Lovely village, if a bit touristy.
The room was dark with a nasty grease mark on the headboard. The greeting was barely pleasant.
The public areas are very nice, and the location is fantastic! We liked the free parking, and how quiet it was. The beds were comfortable, and it was clean. Although it wasn't perfect, we got a discount, which made it a good value for this expensive location.
The bedroom was OK, but not up to the standard of the public areas. It was clean, if a little dated. The wifi did not work in our room.
Location Very good breakfast
Whole place needed tidying up , garden needed attention, it could be lovely. We did not eat at the hotel as the menu was expensive
The garden and the patio The spacious room
The property is run down, especially the bathroom where a bulb was missing over the sink, and the shower was not working properly. On the Sunday evening, we decided to eat at the restaurant as they offered two courses from the menu for 19 euros. When we started to order, the waiter told us that this offer is for weekdays only. It was 19:30 and we were told that the cook had not arrived yet!...So we had diner somewhere else. Also the paper of the menu was torn and dirty, not very appetizing!
Uninterested staff, aging facilities, a few broken things, Wi-Fi totally unreliable (off for hours on end).
Location, wifi. Nice breakfast.
Reserved room with 2 single beds, had one cramped full. Specified non smoking, room very smoky on our arrival. Mold in bathroom, peeling wallpaper. Staff indifferent. Price high compared with what was available.
The room, the mould on the walls, the hostess - the breakfast for the money was bad
We stayed at Le Cle d'Or 9 years ago and it was fantastic. We were extremely disappointed this time. It needs a good "tidy-up" and "painting" both in the rooms and in the outside areas. Room a bit grubby.
Client service was very poor, especially in settling the account.
Free parking, centre of the village
Very bad smelll in the bathroom, had to change rooms, second room, same problem. We had booked 2 nights, stayed only one
Perfectly situated in the historic village of Barbizon. Staff were amiable, garden very pleasant to sit in to eat. WiFi. Close to significant places associated with the Barbizon school of painters, their ateliers, the Barbizon School museum, and beside the forst of Fontainebleau, five minutes walk away.
There were some minor problems in the room—with the toilet and shower mechanisms. I couldn't access WiFi in my room, but it worked fine outside in the garden and in the main hotel building.
The staff were so friendly and helpful, despite a mix up with our booking and coupld of small kids that had endured the rush hour traffic round Paris. A calm, stylish and authentic place to stay. Great food too.
The heat! Hardly the hotel's problem though, and when a thunderstorm broke in the middle of the views were fantastic.
Location in Barbizon and lovely exterior and garden terrace Internet access is free
Do not stay at this hotel. It is very run-down, rooms dark, damp, poorly ventilated, outdated, mostly broken appliances (shower missing doors, hardly any working lights, etc.), not suitable to accommodate guests and certainly not for the prices they charge. The restaurant is mediocre and - for the quality you get - very overpriced. In general, the place seems understaffed, and although they do try (sympathetically) they lack experience or any knowledge of running a hotel/restaurant. When we wanted to check out at 8:30 am there was no one at reception, we had to wait for 20 minutes before the receptionist arrived (woken up by the cleaning lady, yawning, looking annoyed and not at all apologetic).
location in villahe of Barbizon is excellent; staff was very helpful if sometimes not immediately available.
The place is a dump, at least the main building where we stayed. The carpets are thread-bare, the room was awful. The wood trim and walls are banged up, chipped paint. I hated it. A horrible way to spend the end of a 10-day trip through France.
About Barbizon--I can't think of a better place if you want to get away, relax, tinker on your guitar, stroll an amazingly beautiful village and countryside while having access to excellent choices in cuisine. The village also supports a nice bakery, fruit stand and boulangerie. About the hotel-- The restaurant serves some of the best food in the village and is very reasonably priced. The staff is very friendly and helpful (I know because I leaned on them a lot.) The view from my window on the garden was fantastic. My room was basic but adequately furnished and reasonably clean. I would go out of my way a bit for the opportunity to stay there again.
About Barbizon-- People who visit here should not expect the amenities found in the city. If you forgot the adapter for your lap top you won't likely find it here. No bike rentals and there is no in-town taxi so trips to neighboring towns aren't cheap and can add up fast.
Beautiful old house in a beautiful art-gallery-filled village with forest all around. Extremely friendly staff. Good restaurant in lovely courtyard with fountain ($$$) Room was small and a little dated but charming.
The appearance of the hotel was good with easy free parking and a large pretty garden.
We discovered we were not booked in when we arrived. The bedroom and bathroom were small and pokey. Breakfast at 11 euro was too expensive for a set table of a glass of orange juice, a jug of coffee, 2 croissants, 1 plain yogourt. We found 11 euro a standard price for breakfast in French hotels but this price covered a very extensive buffet breakfast with many choices.
