Close to station. As the main purpose of my stay was to do a Normandy Beaches tour and the tour group met at the station in the morning, location was ideal. The city has rental bikes like Paris Velib.
There is a bit of a walk to the centre of town and restaurants. Not a huge problem.
The manager made us feel welcome but would not give us a refund for our second.
The area around the hotel did not feel safe. Loud gangs of youth at the train station continued to make noise until after 11:00 p.m. The room was very small and the bed was very uncomfortable. The small stairway was hardly large enough for us to get our suitcases up and down. Had to pay for two nights but only stayed for one.
Simple but efficient, has most things you need. Great value for money. Staff is very friendly and welcoming.
Slightly "dodgy" area which is not a surprise as it is right in front of the train station. Having said that it is completely safe at any time of day or night.
Great staff Great location Very nice restaurant
Lack of elevator.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast a good value for 7 euro- coffee, juice, baguette, yogurt, and croissant. Excellent location.
No AC and no elevator. No phone in room.
Great location. Across the street from Rail station and meet up place for Normandy tour also across the street to bus for Ferry. Staff very friendly.
Very close to railway station and tram service into town
I will assume their are two owners of this hotel, works the weekend, one the weekdays, 14 hours a day. They may be the two most helpful people in France. We enjoyed our stay here immensely, very convenient to buses, train and metro. Across the tracks is the best Italian restaurant we have ever eaten at. Just kept going back, great food every time. Had a very good breakfast in the hotel every morning for 7 euros. As a note, tight stairwell with no lift, no hair lower, not a problem for us. Highly recommended budget hotel.
Parking, small room, expensive for standard offered
No elevator but they carried bags up. Across from train station
Room was tiny and no apparent A/C
Hotel staff were courteous and very helpful and the breakfast was good.
The size of the room; the uncomfortable mattress and the absence of quality pillows.
Location to transport and car hire. Staff were very helpfull.
Room was a little small for us.
The staff is very friendly, helpful. The room is clear. The breakfast is good and the breakfast-room is a snack bar, which is very lovely.
location brilliant for bus, tram and train. Facilities as described but service and friendliness excellent. Food in brasserie very good. Really pleased I chose this hotel for a last minute break.
Good basic hotel for the money in a handy location across from the station-lovely breakfast.
Located across the road from the train station. The owners are the best. They gave us lots of information on the area and just made the experience that much better. The restaurant served a great breakfast and lunch.
very clean and tidy room, very polite staff
The location is ok but a bit far from city centre, the breakfast was just basic
Helpful staff. Conveniently located opposite the station and a short trip by tram into the centre of town. A very clean hotel above a well run bar/restaurant.
As usual there were a few homeless people in the station area but they were not a nuisance or a threat.
Our overall La Consigne Hotel was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone! The Staff is beyond excellent and very accommodating! My observation is they take a personal interest in everyone walking in their door! They made us feel very special and relaxed! Julien, Jonathan, and Regis certainly have it down when it comes to customer satisfaction! Great Job! While the hotel is in a more commercial and business environment, we found the location to be super convenient. The hotel's rooms are very neat, clean and seemed to have been recently remodeled. Our room was perfect! Overall, I would place our overall experience right at the very top! We look forward to returning!
There are no negatives!
Easy assess from the train station- just across the street. Wonderfully helpful staff. Immaculately clean. Easy continental breakfast. Perfect place for younger travelers on a budget. In hindsight, we would have rather had AC and a iquiet room closer to restaurants and shopping. We did quite a bit of walking and I was a bit concerned about vagrants in this area. No one bothered us, but I would stay closer to downtown if I came back to Caen.
No air conditioning and the fact that there was no AC was not mentioned in the description. They need to put some hooks on the backs of the doors so there is somewhere to hang towels, a jacket, a purse, etc. With windows open for air, the street noise was pretty loud. A big German Shepard in the lot below our window barked a lot. WiFi was not reliable in the room.
Staff we're very helpful
Room very small . The walls in the rooms must of been very thin you could hear the other guest moving about
Hotel was right across the street from the train and bus stations, as well as local public transit. Staff were extremely accommodating. Although about to close for the evening when we arrived after a delay due to the railroad strike, they served us dinner. Food was good, promptly served, and Grimbergen dubbel on tap (my husband's all-time favorite beer) was wonderful! Breakfast was generous and included the best baguette we had in 10 days in France! Oh, yes, the price was right, too, for this tiny gem! Thanks!
Ease of local car parking. On main road routes to other places of interest. Friendly English speaking staff. Good food. Despite a busy location (near railway station) there was v little noticeable train/traffic noise. Proximity to shops, city centre & historical sites.
Occasional loud barking from the hotel dog.
Very helpful, friendly staff, excellent service, nice food in bar downstairs.
