La Malcotais is a beautifully secluded stable conversion, just outside of Rennes, and is only 6 minutes off the main motorway (the N137) - making it the ideal stopping point to and from the ferries. The converted stable block and farm buildings are exceptionally well appointed with the added benefit of air con., free wifi and a small kitchen. The rooms themselves overlook a small orchard of fruit trees, with a variety of farm animals to welcome you on your stay!
I liked everything! Very quiet place. Kindness of the owner. Family environment. I recommend it to families with children due to the possibility of seeing the friendly donkeys and sheep delightful dwarf.
The owner was such a nice woman. The large (queen sized) bed was extremely comfortable and being in the country it was so quiet -- our best sleep to date. The ensuite bathroom was actually 2 rooms toilet in one and shower and sink in another. The shower and sink area was small but adequate and very clean. It was the first time that we had nice thick fluffy towels and wash clothes -- very few places provide wash clothes. There was also a patio with chairs and table through a sliding door. There was a second floor that had a single bed as well. The room was large. The breakfast in the morning was excellent --oj, crepes, croissants and bread and jam served in her home. Note to travelers: Arrive early (well before dark) so that you can find the property and have time to find restaurants close by.
The property was extremely difficult to find. We almost gave up. Finally we went into a hotel and asked the staff to bring it up on google maps for us -- they did and we did find it but still had difficulty (a small sign pointed us in the direction as we got close). GPS co-ordinates would definitely help because even the map on Bookings.com gets you close but there are no street names on the map in the location of the property. If we are in the area again, we would definitely stay there because we now know how to get there. It has been our experience that the hardest places to find are usually the best experiences. Also in the closest town we only found pizza places.
the quietness the breakfast the friendly and helpful owner
Location was handy for us.
Would have liked to know if food was available locally rather than Rennes
